“lovely small hotel with a personal touch”
Reviewed 10 January 2013

we stayed here with our daughter in a nice big triple room. superb huge bathroom with a stylish bath and shower. the staff are lovely - they can't do enough for you, always happy to help. The rooms are set around a lush garden with a great pool and restaurant in the centre. Although away from the centre, this wasn't a problem with the free tuk tuk service, drop off and collection into town . They give you a phone and you call them ten mins before you want a pick up. we never had to wait long. For Breakfast there is a choice of continental, which we had, American or Asian. The continental is perfect, croissant, toast, fresh fruit and fruit juice etc., highly recommended .

I must say, this place was a complete shocker! The property is quaint and very charming, with a lush tropical feel and a beautiful little pool, and although the rooms are minimal, they are very comfortable. Next time, I will ask for more "thirsty" towels. The bed is a little hard, but I like that. For the most part, everything was very comfortable. However, the service provided by the staff is over-the-top! They cannot stop going out of their way to do enough for you. Including the 'on call' Tuk-Tuk driver. I have never experienced service like this at the finest 5 star resorts, let alone a small boutique bed and breakfast. They actually stand and wait to make sure you have everything you need. They are all very friendly, and want to make sure you are happy. And the food here was some of the best food we ate while we were in Siem Reap! Everything prepared by the kitchen, from the complimentary breakfast, to lunch, to dinner, was absolutely delicious! We stayed for 5 days and found ourselves eating at the hotel at weird hours, and they always accommodated us. We used the spa (very minimal also) for a few massages and they were great! And at a super cheap price! I can go on and on about this property, but the service alone makes us realize we must go back.

We stayed in the moon boutique the first week in January, it just so happened that there was a wedding and a national holiday during that time which meant there was many celebrations going on which made our stay a little noisier than I would have liked.

Having said all of that siem reap is a busy tourist destination and the nice thing about the moon is it is off the main "strip" with a free tuktuk service has all you need for down time after the bustle of the main town!

That being said the hotel staff were amazing very kind and couldn't do enough for you, the room was clean with a beautiful bath and shower.

The welcome was quite intense when the show you the room including the tissues bug spray and hair dryer but that aside it was a lovely stay.

The beds were a little on the firm side - but this seems to be a theme in Cambodia!

The starters are HUGE and will easily satisfy 2 even with a healthy appetite....

The spa left us with bruises so ask them to be gentle! But again Cambodia seems to lead on firm massages.

Our trip here was lovely and I would return again....my boyfriend proposed whilst we stayed here and so will always be special!

Room Tip: Ask for mr sokhey tuktuk driver if you want to do any day trips he was brilliant and couldn't be...

We thank you very much for choosing our hotel and we were pleasuring to serving you here in Siem Reap.

We realize that noisy was from the neighborhood as there was the wedding celebration and this is a must for Cambodian. The hotel did contact wedding family to move speakers a side and turn it down, however there was still some music echo.

Also, We have taken note well relating to our therapist who treated you wrongly and inured the inconvenience. To prevent such issue, the supervisory level including Spa Manager were conducting a prompt meeting and re-coach our therapists to perform their job professionally.

We expect that there will be another chance to serve you here so that we are to offer special benefits as compensation.

Eventually, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience and thanks for your kind understanding.

Respectfully,

I always feel like giving 5 stars to a review is slightly OTT but were it not for the menu, this would be a full score review. Let me start by talking about the great things first, of which there were many. The staff are A+ all the way and by that I mean every single one of them. They were always on hand to assist and answer any questions. We booked all our tours and trips through the hotel and found that prices were right on, if not cheaper than one would expect. For example, our half day tuk tuk trip to Angkor Wat was a mere $15 because it was classed as a 'small tour' on the list they have available at reception for your perusal. The pool area was beautiful, all that green, lush foliage and the colour it provided. The birds singing and other exotic background noise almost made it seem that we were out in deep countryside, and not 5 minutes from the heart of Siem Reap (forgive me for being a tourist with that statement for by this I mean the markets & museum areas).

The room was very well presented and laid out with a spectacular bathroom suite, which is always the best bits of well done boutique hotels as far as I am concerned. The stonework and dark wood was just a stunning combination and just made everything seem so luxurious. Air Con was working and hot water was never ending. I think we might have had a couple of power outages but they lasted for less than 2minutes before the generator powered up.

The Spa became my special spot and no, the 50% guest discount had nothing to do with it! My top tip here is to request Aeng for your treatment but all therapists including Sally and gosh, can't remember spelling of her name but began with S were all so very nice too, and very skilled at what they do. The ginger and honey drink at the end of the treatment is like nectar from the heavens and maybe I should not have mentioned it so you can be as surprised as I was at the nice touch. It really does something by way of revitalising the system after a 2hr massage.

There was a safe provided in the room and in addition the staff were so honest and trustworthy that they inspired security confidence in me regardless of whether there had been one. For example, we paid for our massage at the front desk after each treatment as it was just easier for me to manage our spending. And less than a minute later there was a knock on the door from one of the FOH staff bearing money. It seems they had not done their sums properly in applying the 50% discount (there is 35% mentioned on the menu list itself) and he was there with my refund. To tell the truth, the price was already so cheap that I would not have noticed! Also, we had a late flight to Vietnam on our last day, and besides letting us use a room to freshen up in early evening, because we did not have a safe for our use any longer, they took in items for safe keeping at reception but wrote down items, including cash amount and signed it in front of me before stapling everything shut by way of taking responsibility for it. All in all it was the kind of place where tipping was your pleasure because you knew they were trying to keep money in your pocket!

It has been mentioned that they provide you with a phone and a driver when you go into town and this is true, and worked without a hitch. Pick-up was very quick too. They were also happy to make phonecalls for me when I needed to speak with an outside driver I had made arrangements with and to speak to him for me and then translate.

The food was just okay with the main gripe being that the menu lacked cohesion and for someone like me that eats no meat, there ended up being only 2 things on the menu I could eat by way of main meals. Thankfully, I can eat fish otherwise I would have been very hungry and sad!. My daughter however had no problems as they catered to her tweenage western palette well with burgers and sausages aplenty on offer!

We didn't want to leave in the end and with one more stop of our trip to go (on the 2nd leg), it remains our favourite place.

Thanks for compiling details of your experience with us and we would like to express our candid appreciation for a chance to serve you here.

We feel dismayed after reading your review posted and found the lack of vegetarian food on the menu. We could definitely make you feel happily if we were addressed the requirement when you were with us.

However, there are now more selections of vegetarian food available on the menu in order to fulfill our residences' requirements.

Once again, thanks for choosing our hotel for your accommodation in Siem Reap and hopefully you will see our updating via this response.

Best wishes and Happy New Year from The Moon Boutique Hotel's team

All the staff at this hotel were friendly and chatty including housekeeping and pool attendant. The wifi worked well, the food in the restaurant was lovely and an excellent touch was being given a boxed breakfast for early morning tours. There was no wait time to take the free tuk tuk shuttle into town and although I didnt use it, the mobile phone you're given to call to be picked up again is an excellent idea.

The pool and surrounds were lovely with plenty of pool lounges for everyone, the room was clean and spacious with an excellent air conditioning unit which cooled the room very quickly. Plenty of space in the bathroom for personal toiletry items to be placed and ample hanging space for clothes with a safe in the wardrobe.

Mr Kahn (sorry unsure of spelling) the tuk tuk driver was excellent, a very safe driver, informative and punctual he was very adaptable to wherever i wanted to go and I would highly recommend him.

Overall I had a very enjoyable stay in Siem Reap at the Moon Boutique Hotel and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: All rooms are centred around the pool so any room would be enjoyable.

This B&B is a great option. Located a little off the beaten track in a quiet area but only a 10 minute ride by tuk-tuk to town. The hotel provides tuk-tuks free of charge. The made to order breakfast was phenomenal. The rooms were large, clean but modern / minimalistic.

All in all a great value for a great experience. Highly recommend.

We spent three nights in this fantastic hotel towards the end of November. We are on a three month trip around SE Asia and so turned up late in the evening with backpacks after a long and miserable bus journey into Cambodia from Bangkok. On our journey, we had befriended a younger backpacker who was a bit concerned about wandering alone around Siem Reap and so he came with us to the hotel to see if he could get a taxi from there to the hostel he had booked. We were greeted with cold towels and fresh fruit juice on arrival and felt instantly welcomed by the staff. The backpacker we had picked up on our journey was explaining that he wasn't planning on staying there and so shouldn't have the towel or fruit juice (he thought they were offering them to him as they thought he was also a guest), but they insisted.

A member of staff showed us to our room, which was spacious and clean. The highlight (especially as we felt pretty dirty after our long journey!) was the bathroom - spacious and clean and with a huge shower and bath. There were petals in the sink and the lady apologised that they had started to curl but they had expected us earlier in the day - it still looked beautiful to us and we felt instantly relaxed and at home.

It was a great place from which to explore Angkor Wat - the hotel can organise this for you, even at short notice (we booked an English speaking guide and tuk tuk at 10pm for the following day) and is about 10-15 minutes from central Siem Reap by tuk tuk. The hotel provides a free service between the hotel and Siem Reap and give you a mobile phone so that you can ring them when you want to be collected (up until about midnight). We used this every night and it worked just fine.

We ate in the restaurant on our first evening and the food was very good.

The pool and its setting are stunning - a lovely place to relax in the afternoon after exploring the temples.

The staff were fantastic - couldn't do enough for you but not overbearing. We would definitely stay here again.
