“Excellent hotel with amazing service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2012

My husband and I stayed in the Royal Suite on the Privilege floor in April and it was a truly wonderful stay. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel, especially as it owned and staffed by the beautiful Cambodian people.

Firstly the staff were so friendly and attentive - a big thank you to Tim, Alex, Jacky and Sichan who went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. They were only too happy to book tours, arrange drivers and attend to any request we may have had. We felt so welcome we kept referring to the hotel as 'home', because that is how it felt.

We were met at the airport by the chauffeur, Tim and Sichan and presented with jasmine lei's and cold towels to refresh ourselves.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were taken up to the Privilege floor, which is on the 4th floor (with its own private lobby and restaurant/bar) and straight to our suite, where cold drinks were waiting. We were introduced to Jacky, Alex and Sichan and given a mobile phone to use during our stay with their numbers pre programmed, incase we got stuck anywhere and needed them.

The Royal Suite is very well appointed and very comfortable, with lovely views over the pool and Siem Reap. We were impressed by the great internet which was always quick and reliable.

The hotel is so beautifully decorated in the traditional Cambodian royal palace style - lots of dark wood, marble floors large airy foyer and gorgeous silks so it always cool, airy and peaceful.

Every staff member we talked to was so friendly and genuinely happy to have a chat and ask how your day has been.

The food - whether it was in the private restaurant on level 4, the main restaurant or the poolside cafe - was of a consistently high standard. The breakfast buffet was so good, we would go down from our private restaurant and have breakfast by the pool.

The day spa was just delightful and well worth a visit. There is minor construction work going on next door but if you book in for an evening session there is no noise.

The grounds and hotel are kept immaculately clean and the pool was lovely - especially after being out in the heat!

A truly excellent hotel and we will definitely be staying there again.

I feel a bit bad about breaking the chain of 5 star reviews. But, while this is a nice property, I think it does need an alternative view.

We stayed here for three nights in April 2012. First of all, a lot of what is said is true. The service is really fantastic, with the staff being very attentive. The all day breakfast is a great idea if you are visiting the temples early in the morning. It was also great having a driver available all day long.

However - what the reviews (and the website) don't always make clear is that you are basically on the top floor of a resort - the Borei Angkor. So the facilities are shared with the rest of the hotel. The pool was okay - quite large, but not much shade (most pools in SE Asia would have trees planted to give that shade). And there was a problem with the chlorine level - some other guests were complaining that their swimsuits had been stained, and my swim hat lost its colour.
The spa was quite nice, but pretty noisy with construction work next door.

Our room was nice, with a fair bit of space - but similar to other rooms we have had on our travels in the region. The main problem was on the last night when our room was filled with loud music from a party on the Ground Floor - even though we were on the 4th floor! In fact throughout we noticed a lot of noise, especially when doors were being closed.

So - you will probably have a nice time here. But it isn't perfect - especially compared to other accommodation in places like Thailand. I think 3.5 stars is about right, but I will push it up to 4 stars given the great service.

The hotel staff are top notch - could not do enough and always helpful, polite and courteous. The hotel itself is very comfortable and the Privilege Floor well worth the investment.
Well done to all the staff members who made our stay so enjoyable - thank you Alex, Sichan, Jacky, Somsay, Sokman, Sreylakuk, Domra, Somnang, Het and MA

Awesome staff and great service. The perks offered on this floor made it truly worthwhile. The food was superb. The staff really pampered us. Cocktail hour from 5 to 7 p.m. was enjoyable. Good breakfast served by very attentive staff. Nice big room and bathroom. Would stay here again. Providing us with a cell phone for local calls was very helpful, as was the car and chauffeur. Highly recommend this hotel!

It's a beautiful hotel with sumptuous decor and all the amenities that you'd expect in a 4/5 star resort plus a few I've not experienced ie. a mobile phone for my use. However, the thing that puts The Privilege Floor above the rest are the six star staff members. Wonderfully professional and caring I have never felt so at home in a hotel. My teenage children both had 'off' days with a stomach bug (not from Siem Reap) but I felt completely at ease leaving them in the comfort of their rooms while traipsing around the temples. The food was excellent, breakfast was never ending and the free cocktails each evening were a great way to meet other travellers. My heartfelt thanks to Jacky, Alex, Soeum Say and Sokmen (also the wonderful woman who's name escapes me) for making our stay so memorable.

Room Tip: If the bed is not to your liking they will add a pillow top, change the pillows etc, just ask.

My husband and I were greeted by our driver Mr Borang at the airport who provided us with cold towels and a refreshing drink. After a short drive to the hotel we were taken up to the The Privilege Floor separate check in area in the Borei Angkor Hotel. We were then given a lovely local cocktail and swiftly checked in to our room, at the same time the friendly staff also arranged our intinerary for the next 3 days exploring the Angkor Wat complex with our dedicated driver Mr Borang and they also arranged our fantastic guide Ke Nit!! Look him up on trip advisor and facebook, he really is an asset to this hotel.

Upon entering our room we noticed they had left us a bottle of champagne and hor'dourves and this hospitality continued throughout the stay. One night it was red wine with crackers and cheese, another sparkling wine and fruit which on top of the complimentary mini bar meant we were never in need of a drink !! We were also awoken every morning with tea and coffee and on arriving back one evening we found the bath filled with petals. On top of the complimentary mini bar and driver, the hotel also gives you a mobile phone for free local calls and 30 mins worth of international calls. (i found the reception quite poor but still managed to have a conversation with relatives in england !!).

Each morning we had complimentary breakfast on the balcony of the lounge overlooking Siem Reap and in the evening there were complimentary cocktails and hor'dourves, I must say the service here was exemplary!!!

Where this hotel excels is service and this could be found throughout the hotel, not just on the privilige floor. One afternoon after arriving back from the temples we entered the main lobby of the borei angkor alongside other guests which werent staying on the privilege floor and the staff came directly to us and gave us cold flannels and escorted us to the lift, so we dont think the service is limited to just the one floor its throughout the hotel.

We found our driver Mr Borang very attentative, he always ensured we had cool towels and cold water whenever we returned to the car after exploring temples, he was very patient with us as the first day we wanted to see as much as possible, which meant he was out for a good 8 hours. Mr Ke Nit was incredible, very knowledgeable and took us off the beaten track at times to avoid the crowds, he knew exactly what we were looking for and we really enjoyed our three days with him, he became more a friend by the end of it and we were sorry to say goodbye.

All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.....including Jackey, Alex and Soem Say just to mention a few. On our last day Alex escorted us back to the airport and presented us with two beautiful cambodian scarves......we most definately would like to return to Cambodia and I can't see us staying anywhere else other than The Privilege Floor - it truly was an amazing experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in a standard room with balcony overlooking the pool - it was perfect!
