“Fantastic value and chic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2013

Our family of 4 (w 10 yo twins) backpacked (or flashpacked) across Asia this past summer for 9 weeks to 7 countries. Believe me, we saw it all in terms of hotel quality. This was one of our favorite places to stay - we were there in July 2012. Perfect location, chic, almost mediterranean style, incredibly helpful and friendly staff, great food, we can't say enough. Not the cheapest place in Siem Reap, but a wonderful value. We can't remember the name of the lovely Khmer woman who saved for her entire life with her family to build this tiny place. She gave us numerous suggestions for restaurants, shopping, etc. No pool.

Room Tip: Only 6 rooms, the room at the top was best. Rooftop bar above, but not noisy.

This place is just fantastic, the hotel is in a great location, right in the center of town, within walking distance to most places you want to go, like Pub Street or the old Markets.
I could not say enough about the staff at this place, they are really friendly and so helpful, they really made our stay in Siem Reap that much more enjoyable.
The hotel has a rooftop terrace where you can have a drink or a meal looking out over Siem Reap, we ate there a couple of times and the food was really good.
The hotel only has six rooms, so you definitely want to book in advance.
We traveled up from Phnom Penh by bus, Polly at the hotel had been in touch with me by email and recommended what bus company to use and even arranged free pick up from the bus terminal when we arrived.
We are a family of four (with two teenagers) and the room we had was spacious and comfortable for four people. The only criticism of the room was that there was no bathroom door which made it a bit awkward.
There is free WiFi through out the hotel and a safe in the room, Air conditioning was great.
Would definitely stay here again when in Siem Reap....Highly Recommend

We ended up staying at the purple mangosteen for eight nights, it really is a gem. The staff are lovely, Polly, Sokhom and simon are both very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and are quick to recommend local restaurants, although I must say their own restaurant is very good too. Location wise it's perfect - very easy to get to Angkor (the hotel arranged a very good tuk-tuk driver for us), and it's right in the centre of the tourist area of siem reap, though tucked away from the craziness of Pub Street. We did have a bit of noise one evening, but not enough to bother us. The hotel itself is lovely, architect designed by someone who's done other places in town, and the rooms are really well designed. Plus it's a relative bargain, especially for such a boutique. Would love to go back some time.

We stayed three nights at the Purple Mangosteen - it really is a hidden gem because it hasn't yet been exploited by Lonely Planet and overrun with tourists. The hotel itself is in the best location in the city - right in the middle of The Alley, close to Pub Street and the night market and a glut of tuk-tuks waiting to take you to Angkor. We enjoyed our room and cocktails on the rooftop, but this was the only hotel we stayed in Asia that did not offer a complimentary breakfast. Our only criticism is that the hotel was quite noisy at night - no fault of the owners but for two reasons - 1) the locks on the doors are fiddly and you are sometimes woken by late comers/early risers struggling to lock up, and 2) because of the central staircase that leads to the rooftop. People click clacking down the stairs all night - not a great way to end a long day at Angkor.

Top to bottom, this place is first rate. The property itself is beautiful, with a modern, stylish design, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are exceptionally friendly. The hotel's kitchen filled the air with some great aromas during our stay, and the rice plate we had while waiting to head to the airport was really nice. And the location couldn't be better, just steps away from the night market and Pub Street. And Simon, one of the ex-pat owners, is a fascinating guy to talk to if he happens to be there during your visit, and is a source of great local dining recommendations. Great boutique hotel and so far the best I've stayed at in my 2-month Southeast Asian journey.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights visiting Siem Reap and the surrounding area. What made the difference is the great staff. They helped us with making arrangements for day trips, great recommendations for dinner, etc. They really went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

The hotel is also located right in the middle of the city. But located in a little alley which kept it relatively quiet. Great place! I would stay here again. And again.

Room Tip: Book early, its a small boutique hotel in the middle of the city.
