“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014

The value is great, large room and easy walk to markets and pubs. I think that a 5 star rating is over-shooting it and I'm not quite sure why it has so many 5 stars. Aside from the price and the location and the nice unexpected eggs and bread for breakfast, I can't say that this is exceptional place.
I would tend to agree with some other reviews that management is not professional and there is too much asking where one is going when you come and go from the hotel. What might at first seem like "creating a homey atmosphere" soon gives way to realizing it's more about keeping tabs on you with the intention of getting their tuk tuk drivers jobs for the day (not sure if they take commission or not?). The longer you stay, the more evident this becomes. Super friendly one day, cold and indifferent the next. I think it's important to remember that a certain boundary should be maintained with guests in order to keep "welcoming" from turning into "I feel weird being here now." It is true that you're to keep your key at front desk with no safe in the room which I found to be an odd expectation when you have people traveling from out of country with passports, credit cards, etc.
I think for two days to save money in a good location is what Sidewalk caters to and so if this is what you're looking for then it's perfect.

Stay here for 3 nights and it was a blast. Surrounding is peace and quiet, you dont have to worry about the noise. 10 minutes walk to Pubstreet but its safe to walk even in midnight. Room have a basic hotel facilities and a clean toilet. I

Room Tip: Take the room that face behind as there are a nice swimming pool view.

After reading all the good reviews we booked at the sidewalk hotel, and the reviews are right excellent hotel, clean , great staff ,good location pub street and night markets within walking distance. Breakfast basic but good quality. Room basic clean and air-conditioner works well. For the price you cant beat this hotel.

I arrived in Phnom Penh the 31st Dec and the hostel I had previously booked didn't seem to exist. Spent two hours looking for a place and finally ended up to Sidewalk. Chen, together with Koni and Leng, really helped in make this a happy holiday. They are the superplus of the Hotel, which in any case is clean, in a perfect position and cozy.

We stayed at sidewalk for 2 weeks- it became our Cambodian home. We got to know other guest staying as well as the staff, who became our family for our stay in SR.
The hotel isn't 5 star, but is sufficient in everything you need to be comfortable.
We had a double bed, aircon room. The room was cleaned daily, bed made, free little water and towels replaced. Equipped with mini fridge and ensuite.

Wifi works throughout the hotel and pool is lovely on a hot day. Breaky is your choice of eggs and fresh baguette or a fruit salad.

It's a 10-15 minute walk or $2 tuk tuk into pub street and the night markets, however, local food spots surround the hotel and there's an awesome burger bar straight across the street, run by a young Aussie guy, so we basically didn't have to leave our block!

Top spot close to everything rooms were good value for money and staff made you feel more then welcome almost like a home away from home always a beer on offer or something to eat off the BBQ in the arvo. Plus a pearler of a burger bar across the road couldn't recommend it any higher. sidewalk never die!!

Booked two nights, stayed six,and would stay again.I liked it! On arrival, after a torturous bus journey from Bangkok, the reception guy,Koni, sat me down with a cool drink. My room was large, clean and overlooked the pool.Breakfast is a basic affair.....eggs or fruit.....tea& coffee always available. The hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the market/Pub Street tourist Mecca. However, the local environs contain a variety of eating places,mini-marts,laundries,barbers and,of course, tuk tuks.
The staff are a pretty cool bunch, with no hard sell of tours, but the aforementioned Koni is a very welcoming presence.....when I mislaid my sandals he took off his flip flops and gave them to me.Now that's exceptional customer service!

Room Tip: Sorry, can't help you there
