“Best Choice for Ankor Wat”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

Visited Ankor few times and stayed at various venues. The 4 nights at this Sofitel is no doubly the best. Although at the pricey end, its location and service are truly impressive. Love the spacious room and the gorgeous garden.

Visiting Ankor is a rather physical intensive experience and many people try to bag too many temples for the short during of visit. I highly recommend that you do it at a MUCH slower tempo than most agent or itinerary suggest, only do one location at morning and one at afternoon, and give yourself a very good relax at Sofitel mid of the days to avoid the intensive sun and to refresh physically and mentally.

Room Tip: Don't miss the swimming pool.

Wonderful hotel in a perfect location for Angkor Wat and surrounding temples. Staff were friendly and welcoming in all area's and all our needs were taken care of, wether it be a tuk-tuk to Angkor wat at 5am in the morning or just to the city for a meal. Rooms are clean and spacious, we stayed in the luxury room which was as the name says, luxury. Beds were a little hard but this was easily taken care of by the staff by means of a topper to soften it...perfect service. All in all, a wonderful hotel in a perfect location with a large pool to relax by at the end of a long day temple hopping.

This five-star hotel is the jewel of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Its restaurants offer both Western and local dishes, and the service is fantastic. My favorite hangout was at the pool, where you can wade or swim up to the bar, sit on bar stools while dangling your feet in the water, and order your favorite drink from the bar. My favorite was ABC beer, which you can't get in Vietnam. You can also get a great deep-tissue massage that will soothe your aching body after visiting the many temples that Angkor Wat and Angkor Tom have to offer.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, but I recommend one that offers a view of the grounds.

This was the highlight of our trip. We spent our 40th anniversary here and the dinner in their restaurant was superb..... Try the yellow tail appetizer with watermelon. Our rooms were overly spacious and the bathroom with its huge shower most welcome after a day at Angkor Wat. Don't miss this beauty"

As part of travel through Sai Gon, Mekong, Cambodia and Hanoi with Viking River Cruises, I was very pleasantly introduced to three hotels in the Sofitel group with this hotel in Siem Reap ranking the top stay for the trip and among the finest settings and facilities that I have been privileged to enjoy anywhere. It's location, while exclusive and private, afforded very easy access to the city core, markets and dining, as well as the outstanding nearby cultural and historic sites. The staff, without exception, epitomized the graciousness of the Cambodian people. I fully expect some day to add this destination for a holiday in its own right with my spouse. I know she will love it and its amenities. My only regret is that we had little 'private time' to fully enjoy the pools, spa etc.

Room Tip: I was with a group on a cultural and pleasure tour. I have not been aware of any 'bad' exper...

What a beautiful and welcoming place!

This Sofitel combines everything that makes a hotel stay great: extremely friendly and dedicated staff; a beautiful architecture; lush tropical gardens with ponds, covered walkways, and nice nooks and a large swimming pool to relax; and large and well-equipped rooms that have everything a traveler needs. After lots of sightseeing every day around the captivating temples in and around Angkor Wat and the fishing villages at Tonlep Sap we were always looking forward to returning to this hotel. After taking a swim, it just took a few minutes by tuk-tuk (USD 2) to get into the core of Siem Reap to enjoy the restaurants and bars. In the mornings, breakfast in the hotel's main restaurant overlooking the tropical gardens was excellent, with a huge selection for every taste. The smile of the servers seemed so warm and sincere--what a great beginning of the day!

We hired the driver who took us from the airport to the hotel for the three days of our stay. He provided excellent advice on how to minimize crowds (i.e., which sights to visit when to avoid the tour bus groups) and save costs (for example, after 4:30 pm, tickets for Agkor Wat are available already for the next day, saving us USD40). He also took us to two fishing villages where we took interesting boat tours that were a bit pricey but fascinating. Just beware of the scam with the rice for the orphanage described in the various fora on Siem Reap.

Overall, Siem Reap exceeded our expectations, and the Sofitel was conducive to a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Absolutely beautiful place! The rooms were lovely, the spa was nice, the grounds were impeccable. The buffets were also extensive and beautifully done. You can't beat the location for convenience, either. Definitely a 5 star hotel!
