It's hard to descibe the feeling of coming 'home' to such luxury in such an incredibly poor town, but the Sofitel really was gorgeous!

The rooms are spread out across huge gardens and overlook a beautiful, serene lake. Decorated in heritage style, our deluxe room was spacious, incredibly clean and absolutely beautiful - with an ultra comfy king-sized bed! Loved the big balcony and the huge armchair just made for relaxing. Staff did a wonderful job of cleaning and we enjoyed the fresh fruit and flowers.

We ate at the restaurant one night and had a magnificent buffet, and breakfast was equally elaborate and delicious. The staff were briilliant too, very friendly and happy to chat about their lovely country. Beautiful pool area perfect for a refreshing dip or some quality reading and relaxing in the sun.

The hotel's location was reasonable - about 5 minutes from the main town (including food and markets) by Tuk Tuk (about $2USD for a trip in or out). About the same distance to the entrance to the main temple area.

The only issues we had related to noise - on the first night a function in the hotel's bar was still pumping well after midnight, making sleep impossible. Then on night three the hotel booked a group of students into the room adjoining ours (those adjoining doors just can't block out crazy screaming and laughter!).

But these were minor issues, and overall this is everything a Sofitel should be, We absolutely loved the hotel and gorgeous Siem Reap. We'd certainly stay here again!

Three of us stayed at the Sofitel in Siem Reap last year and loved it. This time round, there were 12 of us in a group. Some us of were there on points redeemed from credit cards but the exact same treatment was accorded unlike some other hotels.

The staff was brilliant right from the front desk to the cleaners - ever ready to help, greeting you and smiling all the time.

We requested for upgrades (just asked) but they could not oblige. However when we arrived, it was roses for all the ladies apart from the usual towels and drink. Fruit baskets were replenished each day, and..I don't know if this was a bit special but each of our names were printed on the room stationary as well. And, free tickets to the new National Museum, which is a must see.

The food was not cheap if you compare with eating in the town but it is of good quality. We had 4 Accor Hotel cards between us (which entitled us to discounts) and they even bothered to ask what combination we would like our food bill to be so that we get the best deal. Now, this is something you won't find in many hotels.

When a couple of the little ones weren't feeling well enough to coem down for a meal, the staff noticed and asked if they could send something from the table up to them.

This is not a new hotel but you won't be able to tell. The rooms and bathrooms were immaculately clean.

Will definitely come back again. ..And, they still place a video disc of a documentary of Angkor's history the night before you leave.

Enjoy yourselves here!

Great hotel. The location, service, accommodation etc is fantastic. In a 5 star hotel we had a meal for two, including drinks for less than £25. The service is some of the best we have come across and the only problem we had was the weather - not much the hotel could do about it. The spa is lovely - massages, pedicures, manicures are all great value and the staff are incredibly friendly and hepful.

Don't book the hotel transport for Angkor Wat - the local taxis and tuk tuks are 1/4 the price and more fun. Don't visit the floating market - very depressing and the only time we felt we'd been ripped off.

Angkor Wat is fantastic - exceeds expectations and in August is very quiet (see comments about the weather!).

The Cambodian people are incredibly friendly - they all want to speak to you and practice their English but there is no begging and even at the temples only very limited hassle from children who are only trying to make a living.

After travelling all night, we reached Siem Reap airport at 9 am and checked into Sofitel at around 9.45am.
The hotel was expecting us and we were pleasantly surprised when we were greeted by name without having to introduce ourselves. Check in was smooth and my husband and I really appreciated how efficient management was with our requests.

I had booked 2 rooms and requested for both to be next to each other or close by. An extra bed was already set up in one of the rooms as per my request. When we got to our rooms we realised that we our rooms faced the road and not the pool. We immediately asked for a pool side view. We were told that all the rooms facing the pool were presently occupied but we would be available after 5 pm. In the meantime, we could used the rooms that were given.

At exactly 5 pm , the manager at the front desk came up to our room himself and told us that the rooms with the pool view were now available and we could moved in at once. We were given the 2 rooms and although the manager apolozied that they weren't connecting rooms we were very happy that they were side by side.

The hotel service was excellent , in line with the Accor standard of service. A big thank you to the staff at the front desk and housekeeping. They made our stay very enjoyable. Little things like always replenishing tea, coffee and drinking water in our rooms was much appreciated.

After we left Siem Reap , we travelled to Thailand and stayed at another 5 star hotel. Even my children could tell the difference in the standard of service. All I heard was...." Sofitel was so much better at so and so...."

Stayed for three days - this is a beautiful hotel: a wonderfully quiet and relaxing place to come home to after tramping round temples. The gardens and the pool are a treat - the staff are friendly and attentive and the rooms are comfortable and well equipped. I could not fault it.

Stayed at the Sofitel for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. There was a mix up in our airport transfer and it was basically my fault. I had inquired about rates etc but did not actually confirm that I wanted a pick up but yet they showed up at the airport. And when I told the driver I had made alternative arrangements he was still all smiles and very polite. This speaks greatly to the level of service at the Sofitel. The staff were always very friendly and helpful.

Although right outside the hotel there seems to be a flurry of people and activity, the hotel itself is tranquil and quiet. They have a large pool with a bar/restaurant, we enjoyed our poolside lunches there. The rooms were large and comfortable with a nice view of the lake.

After a hot, exhausting trip to Bangkok, we had a short trip to Cambodia to see the temples. After landing in Cambodia, we went directly to Angkor Wat for a few hours and then to the hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted with cold lemongrass tea to refresh and the lovely simplicity and gentle service of the Sofitel. It was like stepping into paradise...

I have been to several Sofitels across the world and this one delivered the same experience- great service, comfortable beds and excellent food - which is surprising given the extreme poverty and lack of infrastructure of the country.

I had one of the best massages of my life at the spa - and although it was expensive for SE Asia - it was reasonable compared to what I would get at home. The spa and pool is comparable to any resort, with swim up bar and tropical setting.

Although check out was a pain (had to try 5-6 times to get the credit card machine to work) and the phones could not call out to the US (and no-one understood how to do it), the bell captain offered his own cell - who could ask for more?

I would have liked to stay another day and relax at the wonderful Sofitel, but have to admit that it was hard to feel completely comfortable amongst the nice people who worked there and have so little.
