“Fabulous Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2012

The hotel is restored to its former glory and retains the atmosphere of its past. We stayed in a landmark room which had a balcony overlooking the immaculate gardens at the front of the hotel. The room was large and comfortable. The room was serviced several times a day and the tea and coffee replenished. The room, the furniture and the bathroom recaptured an elegant bygone age. The service within the hotel was excellent and the staff took pride in serving and helping their customers. My wife especially loved the teak and wrought iron lift with its attentive operator. We enjoyed cocktails in the Elephant Bar and food in the Brasserie.
Dinner on the Apsara terrace is not to be missed with beautiful dancers and a varied buffet. The pool is extremely large and with wonderful pool boys who even clean your sunglasses.

We hired a car and guide from the hotel which at first seemed an extravagance but proved to be excellent value. We had the car for 3 days to give us sufficient time to see the main temples and a little of Cambodian life and during this time the car was completely at our disposal. This allowed us to see Angkor Wat at sunrise and return to the hotel during the hotter parts of the day. Returning to the air conditioned car between viewing temples and being welcomed by the uniformed chauffeur with cool towels and ice water was wonderful. We would highly recommend our knowledgeable guide Say (Say.chao@yahoo.com) who spoke good English. We spent some time exploring the distant temple of Beng Mealea which is more overgrown and also lake Tonle Sap.

If you want to see the temples in comfort and style this is the way to do it.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the landmark room at the front looking onto the gardens. The landmark rooms at the back l...

This hotel was excellent. The buffet breakfast was excellent. The staff very helpful and happy.
The rooms are very clean, good size bathrooms, beds very comfortable.
The only down side to this hotel is the fact that the halls are all tiled and you can hear when people are moving around in the hall ways otherwise this is an excellent hotel.

Room Tip: End of each corridor so no one walks past your room so it is quieter.

staff were extremely helpful.
room had everything one would expect
central location to explore seim reap & angkor wat
only dampening was the ongoing heavy rain - seemed we should have been there 2 weeks earlier.

The restaurant claims to have received Royal Khmer recipes by royal decree, thus the food is supposed to be very authentic. Although I cannot pass judgment on authenticity, it was certainly delicious and the ambience was very charming. Good service.

Any history of tropical hotels must include this grand old lady. It is fun to sit with a Jackie Kennedy fan and imagine her across from where you are having a gin and tonic. The Cambodian servers and staff at this hotel have a manner that is unbeatable! The Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor is a piece of living history with a mannerism of it's own. If you love old hotels that take you back to a time past, and you want elegance, this is a great place for that experience.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room for the view you want!

Cambodia must be one of the unluckiest countries in the world but there are charming hotels staffed by charming and efficient people who really seem to like providing outstanding service. This is an excellent example of the Raffles brand with spacious public rooms, attractive gardens and a lovely pool. Frangipan trees around the pool seem to be a Raffles design feature and an evening swim as the day's heat diminishes is as near perfect as it gests. The only slight reservation is the iron hard mattresses which must have been installed to remind you that you are still on earth.
