As comfortable, beautiful, and well-appointed as any luxury hotel in South East Asia we have found. Buffet breakfast had wide-ranging selections, from a great variety of fresh fruits, to french breads (croissants were truly excellent), to a superb omelette station. Pool was clean, refreshing, and peaceful. Sherbert was brought around by waiters in mid-afternoon, in case you were too warm! Suntan lotions, skin creams, etc. always available at a 'comfort station' near pool. Nice boutiques in lobby, printed news excerpts in 5 languages offered each day, small library, pleasant bar with 2 for 1 drinks at Happy Hour. Live dinner music with elegant dancers twice during our stay.

The brochure and descriptions of this hotel looked great. We had come from Raffles in Phnom Phen and just felt the ambience and service did not compare.

Our initial room looked straight onto the first floor bar (a long reach and I could have picked a drink up). We were changed to a pool view room - nice but because of the large glass patio windows it was very public.

We ate once in the hotel - very expensive at around $75 for grilled chicken and a glass of wine. At all other times we took a toc - toc to Pub Street ($2) where main courses were $3 each, beer was 50 cents a glass and a reasonable bottle of wine about $14.

Make sure you have low denomination $ bills to pay for things otherwise you will get you change in Cambodial Reils.

The property is well placed for the city centre but we were surprisedat just how jammed in it was in its plot so that there was a lot of noise from the accommodation and roads next to the hotel.

Overall a nice hotel but we felt is was overpriced given the choice of other international chain hotels nearby (EG Sofitel and Raffles).

Room Tip: Probably not worth paying the upgrade to a pool view room

Our stay went off smoothly at La Residence. It is a fine hotel for it's hospitality and architecture which is based a lot on the designs from the temples of Angkor. I would also recommend their tours as they do take you to the temples at times when it is least busy. We always seemed to be leaving when the first lot of large tour groups were arriving.

La Residence is an oasis in Siem Reap. It is a beautiful property with a stunning pool and gracious rooms and a great location. More importantly, the level of service is superb. Our family had been traveling thru out SE Asia on a trip planned by the travel agent from hell. This is the one thing she managed to get right. A special thank you to Karin, the hotels GM, who welcomed us warmly and gave us great advice.
Easily one of the best hotels our family has ever stayed and that is saying a lot.
Again, thanks to Karin and the staff for a lovely experience!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms.

La Residence is a lovely hotel. The space is very zen-like, wood paneled with rock pools and the like. The staff is great - attentive but not overbearing. Rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Great breakfast buffet. There is a small gym area with a few machines (treadmills, elliptical). The pool area is amazing and I had a fantastic massage at the in-hotel spa. Drawbacks were: no internet in the room. There are a few spots in the common areas of the hotel where I could catch a wireless signal and there are 2 shared computers for use in the upstairs bar. The spa services are all at U.S. price points. The hotel is a bit of a walk (or short tuk-tuk ride) to town. Finally - the in room bathrooms are sort of open-space to the rest of the room. While the toilet has a solid door, the tub-shower (which was this amazing stone, bowl -like tub!) is separated from the main room by a mesh-y sliding door. This meant, essentially, you are showering in an open room. Probably not a big deal for a couple, but for 2 friends travelling together it was a bit awkward. Overall, for couples I would definitely recommend!

We stayed here for just over a week in October 2010 - 3 Rooms for ourselves and our children (grown up). Absolutely fabulous. My daughter needed a doctor during our stay - and one arrived in 10 mins. Staff could not have helped more.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the La Residence Suites but al rooms were good.

For visiting downtown Siem Reap you would be hard pushed to find a better location and a more relaxing atmosphere than this lovely hotel. Low rise three story buildings in traditional local hardwood style set around the black tiled swimming pool, the hotel is directly opposite the river which winds its way gently through this very attractive city and which is lined by mature trees and places to sit and watch the world go by. Don't be tempted to have a room on the river side of the building however as there is a road between the hotel and the river itself and you may pick up some light traffic noise at night. The staff and service could not be faulted, very warm welcome and a super room with balcony overlooking the pool set out as a small suite with the biggest stone bath we have seen. The only reason we do not give this hotel five stars is because the food is not up to the standard we expect of a five star establishment with a fairly limited menu and limited skills in the kitchen to go with it, even breakfast with it's wide variety of choice is mildly disappointing. As with all hotels in south east Asia the wine is ridiculously expensive and beware the Happy Hour offer, it is a blatant rip off! Also if you hire a bicycle don't get it from the hotel, they will charge $10 a day but if you walk 150 yards down the road you will get the same bike for $1.50 a day. Would we go back, yes we would because the hotel has character unlike some others we popped into for lunch.

Room Tip: Steer clear of the River View rooms, stay on the pool side
