We stayed for 4 nights as part of a tailor made tour.We had great time, everything is of a very high standard and the service is excellent -albeit a little slow at peak times of the day.The rooms are spacious and comfortable,,the food quality is excellent.Situated on the river, it takes about 5 -10 minutes to walk into the centre of Siem Reap.We visited Ankor Way at sunrise -beautiful. Many of the lesser known temples were equallyimpressive and visit to the land mine museum, a very humbling experience.

Room Tip: All rooms are good rooms.

Siem Reap offers a lot more than just temples and we found La Residence d'Angkor a good base from where to explore the "other" Siem Reap. The downtown area boasts the night markets, lots of restaurants, bars and little shops selling handicrafts. Beware though were you eat, make sure the place is busy or eat at the hotel to ensure that you will not only get value for your money but will stay healthy as you explore the temples during the day and all the little side streets at night.
Our room was large and spotlessly clean. Service in all areas were very good. We liked the spa treatments and the pool area at night when we when often the only people at the pool. The only thing we did not like was leaving........ after being pampered for 4 nights, we did not look forward to the long trip back home.

After reading all the reviews in this site, we booked this hotel for 3 nights and four days for our holiday in January and were quite disappointed. For such an expensive hotel, we thought they did not get quite a few things right.

1) Breakfast was very marginal and we were mostly doing lunches in pub street. Given that 1USD goes a long way in Siam Reap I thought the hotel dinner was very highly priced. We were not tempted to eat in after the horrible breakfast. I thought staff did not even make an effort to cater to us as we were vegetarians and din't like the food on offer.

2)The rooms were ok but need to be refurbished, the flush made such a noise our room and had to be set right in an odd way by pulling the knob up to stop the noise.

3) Of the four days we stayed there, internet was down for two days.

4) The Spa experience was terrible. The hotel booking gave me free credit that could be used in the SPA. I tried their sodashi purity facial and J'pong treatments and was quite disappointed by both. I was left in the sauna room and completely forgotten. Had to bang on the door quite a few times to be heard by the staff and to be attended. I need to mention that although the hotel was fully booked, I was the only person in the Spa. The staff were more interested in sticking to the said one hour than give me a good spa experience and relax me. The person who was doing my facial had her phone on and had to attend a call which I did not like.

For the price we paid, we would have liked to stay elsewhere.

Gm-Angkor, General Manager at Belmond La Residence d'Angkor, responded to this reviewResponded 17 February 2012

Dear MRAVCHA

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at La Residence d’Angkor. It is through constructive comments like yours that we learn how we can improve our service.

After investigating your remarks it seems like our staff did not know that you are vegetarian. Our usual procedure for all special dietary needs is for the chef to personally discuss with the guests what they can eat and how he can assist them, somehow we overlooked this and we apologize.

As we are in a developing country, the Internet service provided by the local Internet company is not always reliable. As the country develops and grows, we believe that our Internet service will also improve and this will make life a lot easier for our guests!

The J’Pong spa treatment is a traditional Cambodian treatment and is difficult to compare with any other commercial spa treatments. Guests usually enjoy experiencing this authentic treatment, however we will in future give guests a better explanation of what to expect, to prevent disappointment. Our staff is not allowed to carry personal phones during working hours. Like you we were very disappointed that this rule was broken and have taken the necessary steps to ensure that this will not happen again.

Thank you once for choosing to stay at La Residence d’Angkor. We hope that you will return to Siem Reap one day and allow us to welcome you back to our property to experience our improved services.

Loved every moment of our visit to La Residence d'Angkor. We chose the fastlane express immigration arrival and within 20 minutes of landing at the airport, we were at the hotel, with our passports and bags following a little while later. Looking at the long lines at the immigration counter, this really was worth the extra money. At the hotel we were greeted by the General Manager who quickly helped us to plan our tours for the 3 days. Get up early one morning to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat and remember to charge the batteries of your camera as you will want to take many pictures. When all other tourists went back to their hotels for breakfast we used the early morning to explore Bayon and Angkor Wat. We also did an afternoon trip to Banteay Srei, the most beautiful temple of them all. Small but with delicate carvings.
The hotel is lovely to return to in the middle of the day for a dip in the pool or an indulging spa treatment which we both enjoyed. Lunch in the airconditioned BBQ restaurant was lovely. We also met with the children from Together for Cambodia Orphanage who visit the hotel twice a day. Well behaved kids eager to practice their English and learn about life in Australia. The hotel supports this orphanage, so when you travel to Cambodia, you may want to contact them in advance to hear if there is anything you can bring from home for this worthy cause.
Our room was large with and had a beautiful big bathtub. Fresh flowers and fruit in the room every day and ample complimentary water. It really is a lovely place to stay

Room Tip: The rooms next to the pool is quiet

There are many hotels to choose from in Siem Reap, because the exquisite temple complexes in the vicinity attract many visitors. A number of these hotels are of good quality and a few can be called grand, but we counted ourselves lucky to have settled for the intimate luxury offered by La Résidence. Located in the middle of town, on the river, the hotel is relatively small at 54 rooms. Its design – traditional French colonial, with a lot of dark wood – creates an ‘entre-nous’ feeling that we found very pleasing. Most of the hotel’s rooms enclose the scenic swimming pool. The rooms are very well appointed and, in combination with their dark wood panelling and furnishings, provide an ambience of quiet opulence.
The hotel’s staff is extremely attentive and professional, offering a high standard of friendly and efficient service. We have stayed at many another high-end hotel in the region, but have rarely come across one offering – at a relatively moderate price – quite that distinctive combination of traditional style and modern comfort as La Résidence d’Angkor.

Room Tip: Garden side rooms are more quiet

As you enter the hotel, you cross a wide wooden bridge over a lily pond and immediately I knew this was the place for me! Tranquil, quiet, traditional building offering every modern amenity you can want, the perfect place after a long day at the temples. The only negative was that on the day of our arrival, they had some internet problems and we could not get on line in our room but sat at the pool working on some emails until they sorted out the connection problem in our room. This made us realize just how nice it is to actually sat outside at the pool and it became a favourite place every afternoon. They serve complimentary fresh fruit at the pool in the mornings and we also got some sorbet one afternoon. Cocktails are great. The signature drink at the Martini lounge is obviously Martini's and they have a range of these. Dinner at the BBQ restaurant was excellent and good value for money. Breakfast is available really early in the morning so we could enjoy it before we went to Angkor Wat for sunrise. They also offered to pack our breakfast for us. A lovely property close to the night market and Pub street. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Pool and Gardenside rooms are quiter

I traveled with my wife for a short anniversary trip to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, two very different cities in Cambodia. In Siem Reap we stayed at La Residence d'Angkor where everyone went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable, that our steaks were prepared just perfect, the wine cold and our room super clean and comfortable.
The hotel has about 60 rooms, mainly built around a gorgeous swimming pool. At night they light torches and big gas flames around the pool, turning it into a fairlyland. As it was a last minute trip, we did not have time to read up about the tours we wanted to do. We were impressed that the staff at the front office arranged everything for us. From a sunrise trip to Angkor Wat, a visit to Ta Phrom (the temple made famous by Angelina Jolie), a visit to the silk farm and a wonderful dinner at Wat Damnak, a restaurant specializing in Khmer food. We liked the fact that we could taste a variety of different dishes at this restaurant, but also enjoyed the food at the BBQ restaurant of the hotel where we could order from a variety of appetizers, main dishes from the grill and desserts, all for a very reasonal fixed price. Next time we go we will stay a bit longer so that we can spend more time at the very modern spa.

Room Tip: Book a Poolside Room or Suite
