“Loved the Ambience”

My husband and I stayed at La Residence for three nights during April 2008. We were met at the airport by a very efficient chauffeur and whisked back to the hotel to be met by cold towels and a cold drink. Very welcoming. Check in was a breeze and our room was lovely. Solid wood everywhere and a lovely cool, cool room with the biggest bath we have every seen. Wonderful after visiting all of the sights of Angkor Wat. We were on the ground floor overlooking the pool but with all of the lush vegetation we were not overlooked. It is in a prime situation by the river and just a short walk from the centre of town. Breakfast was great and dining at the hotel was an unforgettable experience. Great food! We would certainly highly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I had a fabulous stay at this hotel in March 2008. On a 2-week trip to Southeast Asia, this was our “splurge” hotel, and well worth it. The rooms were spacious and very well appointed. The huge bathtub was a welcome respite after days of trekking around temples. The service was impeccable. Massages were offered in the room. Our room had a balcony overlooking the gorgeous swimming pool, which is one of the only 2 saltwater pools in town. Since it’s too hot to sightsee for a few hours at midday in Siem Reap, the swimming pool was a relaxing way to spend our afternoons. On our final night, we also enjoyed an Apsara Dance performance over dinner in the hotel. Though there are bigger hotels in Siem Reap, this one has a lot of charming appeal and attention to detail that would be difficult to find elsewhere. The only downside to the hotel is that it charges for internet access, it doesn’t offer food after hours and the dinner menu is somewhat overpriced. But it’s also walking distance from the center of town, so you can always grab lunch or dinner or get internet access there, if need be. Also, don’t be put off by its location on the east side of Steung Siem Reap. Siem Reap is a very small town, and distances are pretty short. It really feels like you’re in an oasis in the middle of everything.

I stayed at La Residence d'Angkor for five nights. If only I knew how great this hotel is, I would have planned to stay longer just to enjoy it more.

If I had to review this hotel in one sentence I would say "it proves that sometimes smaller means better".

La Residence d'Angkor is small, but the quality and the luxury you can find there is hard to find elsewhere. It is a relatively small luxury hotel, built to respect the cambodian tradition and to provide all the comfort and luxury of a five star hotel at the same time.

The common areas like the reception and the restaurant are very fresh, built to let air flow in and out and so different from many "international" luxury hotel where you feel to be in an airport.
One of the thing I enjoyed the most is the very elegant use of wood everywhere. The whole reception area is wooden, the floors in the rooms are wooden. It keep the spaces fresh despite the heat and humidity of cambodian weather.

The rooms are decorated with great style and choice of color. The mosquito netting hanging over the bed is great -- we didn't have any mosquito problem at all, but the netting looks very colonial and romantic at the same time. The bathroom, that is separated from the room by a wooden partition, is absolutely great with huge tub two people can comfortably take a bath at the same time.

The pool area is just wonderful. The pool has the same proportions of the pools that you see at the temples and it is surrounded by lush plants. Too bad we had to see all the temples and we didn't have much time to enjoy it.

The breakfast is also great. The buffet is not as big as in the "airport style" five star international resort, but it more than compensate with the quality of the food offered. I found the croissants and the other pastries especially exceptional, I couldn't stop eating them, and at the end I would also take some with me for the day. I live in France and I would not hesitate a minute to say that the pastries offered at the breakfast would easily compete with the ones prepared in France by professionals.

Overall really a small but great place. Oh, I was almost forgetting. Also the price was quite a bargain, compared with the others resorts of Siem Reap.

We stayed here for four nights and in the main only have good things to say about it.
The room was beautiful with a lovely large bathroom and lots of room for our luggage.
The hotel was generally quiet with only about 50 rooms and generally felt calm and relaxing.
Please see the hotel pictures as it really is beautiful in a delightful understated way with a great pool area.
The bar was also lovely though not well frequented and the drinks at happy hour were not too expensive.
Location wise its an easy walk into the centre of town so there is no real need to eat in the hotel. However one night we did so we could take advantage of the free cultural show. The food was expensive for the area but very good and the show was excellant so overall it was good value.
The only gripe I have against this hotel is that on our last morning we were told the restaurant area outside was full and that we would have to sit inside. This was not the case. There were at least 10 tables free when we arrived and still 5 available when we left. Everyone else who arrved after us were asked(right next to our table) their room number then asked if they wanted to sit outside. The only thing I can think is that on that morning the hotel was busy and they wanted to save tables for people who had booked with big tour operators rather than direct as we had. There certainly wasn't a single large group in. Whatever I am guessing. To have been treated so badly rather marred what had otherwise been a wonderful stay.

We stayed at La Residence D'Angkor for 3 nights of our honeymoon on the recommendation of a friend who had travelled trhough Camdodia a few years back. It is clear that Siem Reap is becomming more and more commericalized from the sight of about 20-30 hotels springing up on the airport road - however if you want a hotel with a little more character the La Residence is the place to stay.

La Residence is a in a tranquille setting right in the heart of Siem Reap town on the river almost opposite the famos FCC club and only 5 minutes walk from the markets. The hotel is superb - a mix of dark wood beams and contempory furniture and fittings. We had a room over looking the fresh water pool and the gardens. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive to all your needs, the food in the restaurant is superb - the best we had in Cambodia.

We had a guide from the hotel to take us round the Angkor Temples for 2 days - the most amazing experience with the benefit of the guide taking us round the temples in a way that missed most of the large groups of tourists that swamp the temples at around 3pm in the afternoon.

Siem Reap is a fantastic place and La residence makes it an even better experience to relax after a days treking through the temples.

This boutique hotel is beside the river and just a $1 tuktuk ride from the noisy central tourist area. After an evening on Pub Street we were very glad to be so near and yet so far from the centre. The hotel is elegant, charming and tranquil, with an upmarket restaurant serving delicious (but rich) food and hosting dance performances three times a week, The apsara dances are particularly skilled and beautiful.
The rooms are airy and spacious with views of the river or the pretty gardens and pool, and big granite baths to wallow in. It's very relaxing sitting in the first floor bar overlooking the prettily lit grounds while sipping the excellent cocktails, and the pool is big enough for a really refreshing swim after a morning trekking round the fabulous temples. A real oasis.
There is no separate spa, but treatments can be carried out in the room. I had the best reflexology foot massage I have ever experienced and highly recommend it. Even at hotel prices it is still considerably cheaper than anything comparable in the UK, and does wonders for tired, sore feet!
The FCC hotel is across the river and we went over for dinner one evening. It was very chaotic and the food, while cheaper than La Residence, was very average. It wasn't the "cool" venue we thought it would be, and we were very pleased to be returning to La Residence.
I mustn't forget to mention the staff at La Residence - on reception they are friendly and very competent, and everyone, waiters, pool man, gardeners greet guests with a smile.
Not cheap but you get what you pay for, and it's worth it.

if you like a cosy small boutique hotel but whith all the luxury of the larger resorts go to the Residence. very friendly staff, clean and very comfortable bed- bathroom. after a full-day sightseeing so nice to have some peace here. beautifull pool, nice bar. every request was granted. we visited other hotels in Siem Reap but concluded that this is the best and most cosy place to stay. great location.maybe for families with children better go to the Sofitel. This hotel should be in top 5 ranking of Siem Reap.
