We were not overwhelmed on arrival but at the end of our four day stay we loved it. Themed meals in the restaurant were by far the best we had in out 12 day stay and priced on par with other local hotels. Terraced bar service first rate......such a peaceful place but not lacking atmosphere.
Poolside room spacious, quiet and comfortable but bathroom/wc arrangement did not afford as much privacy as we like.

On arrival the staff were really welcoming. The room was great, with very comfortable beds and spacious bathroom. Good air con and wifi coverage. In room dining was excellent. Amazing pool, and great food poolside. The large well appointed bar and lounge area was handy to hang out in the day or have cocktails. Main dining room serves great food, loads of choice for breakfast, and good menu for local and western dishes for evening. The service was very friendly and the staff were really helpful. I will definately be going back, had not visited Siem Reap before and just loved it!!

Stayed for 2 nights with my family in July.
The hotel certainly has a charm about it.
The room was well appointed and very comfortable.
Nothing was too much trouble for the team, and all requests were prompty met.
Had a visa 'challenge' during my visit, the team went out of their way to resolve and provided me with regular updates to assure me that all was going to work out fine...
Thank you La Residence d'Angkor

We stayed at La Residence d'Angkor for three nights at the end of July. The transfer to the hotel from the airport was quick and easy. The hotel and grounds were beautiful including the pool area. Our room was very nice and had an outdoor patio as well. There was plenty of closet space and the bed was very comfortable. We ate breakfast at the hotel each morning. There was so much to choose from and the food was excellent. We especially liked all of the fruit selections and the omelet station. We also ate dinner one night in the restaurant and the food was very good and presented very nicely. The hotel also arranged for our tours to Angkor Wat and some of the other temples. Our guide, Chhim Hong, was very knowledgeable about the temples, the people of Cambodia, and the best spots for taking great photos. He made our trip very memorable. As others have mentioned, the hotel is well located for walking or taking a tuk tuk to the markets. Also, if you get a chance, visit the Angkor Hospital for Children gift store where you can watch a short film about the hospital and buy some great souvenirs to help support the work they are doing there for Cambodian children.

We stayed 3 nights at the Residence d'Angkor. The hotel is well located, just 2 mns by tuck tuck from city center, in a quieter area. The hotel is beautiful, very nice pool and the building with the colonial style is well arranged. The staff is very friendly.

Breakfast is very good. Fresh viennoiserie and lots of fruits.
The spa was nice, though disappointing that a "couple massage" here is necessarily man & woman...

Note however that the bed is really hard. With everything else so nice, it's a big disappointment that the hotel didn't invest more in the mattress.

Overall I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind too much about a stiffer mattress. Other hotels in Siem Reap don't seem to have the same charm with level of service.

Gm-Angkor, General Manager at Belmond La Residence d'Angkor, responded to this reviewResponded 10 August 2013

Dear Mr. Mathieu,
Many thanks for your feedback, we are happy to see that you overall enjoyed your stay. We regret seeing your comment regarding the mattresses after you have checked out. We actually do have mattress covers which we can add to soften the surface. The same goes for pillows. Most often in 5* hotels you will have a selection from mattress covers (also covers to make the mattress harder should it be too soft!) and pillow menus too, simply inquire with housekeeping in the event that you find yourself in the same predicament again.
We regret we cannot undo the inconvenience this caused to you at this late stage and hope your memories of your stay in Siem Reap have not been marred by this isolated incidence.
We look forward to the prospect of welcoming you back to La Residence or to any of our Orient-Express hotels around the world!

With kind regards,
Carla Petzold-Beck
General Manager

We stayed at this property on a recent trip to Siem Reap. We had just left this Orient-Express hotel's sister property in Laos so we had an idea of what to expect. The staff was very accommodating and the rooms were lovely. We were upgraded to a pool view suite and it was nicely appointed. We relied on the hotel staff for arrangements with tours. They did a good job of connecting us with local guides and drivers as well as recommending places to visit within walking distance of the hotel. The spa was excellent. The restaurant was disappointing for dinner though adequate for breakfast. We loved the convenience and understated elegance of this nice hotel.
