If it was a beach hotel we‘d go on a yearly basis... Unique for total well being.

I had a hard time to decide on the RIGHT hotel before I went to Siem Reap. The choices beside the Residence d‘Angkor were the Amansara, Raffles Grand Hotel d‘Angkor and the Hotel de la Paix. I know a number of Amans, the FS and MO‘s (the last two are not in Siem Reap) but I‘ve never stayed at an Orient Express Hotel. The pictures looked nice, so I thought to give it a try.

Upon arrival at Siem Reap Airport Mr. Ran Sophea, the front desk manager himself was with the driver to pick us up. From the minute we entered the hotel we felt at home. Every single staff member was just extremely nice and helpful, the food excellent, the massages at the new Kong Kea Spa close to heaven. The Gym is also well equipped.

The hotel is ideally located to visit the temples but also to walk to nice bars and restaurants at night. While the Amansara and the Raffles are directly on the loud road that leads to the airport/temples the Residence d‘Angkor sits a little back in a lovely, very nicely landscaped garden directly on the banks of the river.

The huge 25 m pool offeres quiet space to relax after sightseeing with very attentive but unintrusive service. Also, the Martini Bar is nice to have a cocktail at before dinner. From the breakfast buffet you can expect everything a buffet can possibly offer.

We stayed in room 49 (third floor, pool view) and enjoyed the stunning pool/garden views, the well maintained interior and the spotless room and turn down service.

While in Siem Reap we checked out the other hotels, too. You‘ll find the Aman in a poor, far away location on a crammed estate, you‘ll find an old ramshackle hut as the Raffles Grand Hotel d‘Angkor with very stiff service and you‘ll find an overstyled, loud and hectic Hotel de la Paix on a loud and busy main street. While visiting the de la Paix I could not understand why it‘s so hyped for it‘s design. The location is really not that great.

If you want it relaxing in a charming, colonial atmosphere, go for the Residence d‘Angkor. It‘s worth every cent.

And at night: Do something special: Visit the www dot acoda dot org The ACODA orphanage brings you in touch with real Cambodia. We enjoyed our evening at the Orphanage so much. A show put up by the children starts at 6.30 h for about a half hour. An amazing project that helps the many orphans in Cambodia. There is no charge but you can donate some money if you want to.

Residence d‘Angkor and ACODA both strongly recommended ;-) Enjoy!!!

I stayed at La Residence d’Angkor for 3 nights and I found the service to be exceptional! All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms are very spacious and authentic to the local culture. You really feel like you are in Cambodia. The swimming pool is to die for and the food in the restaurant at night was outstanding with every dish having a unique presentation. Highly recommended!

One of the best Orient Express property that we have experienced.
Suites, restaurants, quality of service and kindness of the staff made our trip memorable.
Try the fireplace, very relaxing after a good dinner.
For temples avoid the tuk tuk trip, it is just exhausting. Save your energy to visit the temples, not on the road.
Only detail: slow service at the swimming pool, could have been two more waiters, but the kindness overcome our patience.
Thanks to all the team and management.

Lovely hotel. the entire setting is just beautiful, clean, modern. The rooms - spacious, reception staff amazing, nothing is too much trouble, the bathtub in the room is made of stone, massive bathroom overall, separate toilet, comfortable beds. Our room overlooked the river. We were there the weekend of the water festival so it was very noisy for the entire 3 days in the run up to the weekend festivities. The hotel provided ear plugs in their turn down service. Food was good although quite expensive. They do a two for one happy hour - a glass of wine $7.50 and a beer $3.50 (a bar 5 minutes down the road offers the same beers - two for $1). But then you are paying for the location and 5 star luxury. The hotel is centrally located so that is also good. Would definitely stay here again.

We are usually Raffles customers, but my wife wanted to give a try to la Residence d'Angkor according to tripadvisor reviews.
We didn't made a mistake, the place has a charm and atmosphere that we were surprisingly startled.
Our Spa suite 57 was well designed with a huge bathroom and shower, the large terrace was a quiet place to enjoy the end of our evening, unexpectedly we weren’t harassed by mosquitoes.
Our dinner experience was outstanding, the Chef came to our table and we were astonished by his young age.
The staff in general are adorable but the level of English need to improve.
Basically we might experience more Orient Express properties who are looking into every details with elegance.
We highly recommend this hidden gem.

We stayed 4 nights in Siem Reap, and La Residence was the best pick up choice that we did during our asian trip.
Room are spacious and finely decorated with huge bathtub and quality amenities.
Our best moments was to relax around the swimming pool fireplace as they have a different set up at night to enjoy after dinner in a peace and quiet atmoshpere.
The location is great by the river and just 5 mn walk to the Old market. Tuk tuk will cost you $1 sometimes $2...
Temples are just 15mn by car. The hotel offer excursion at reasonnable price $96 and you don't have hidden surcharge for the main top 10 must see temples.
Great Place, Great food, great atmosphere, great service.
Special thanks to Saori at the reception

We stayed at La Residence for 3 nights whilst touring the temples around Angkor Wat.

We found the service to be excellent - the staff were consistently friendly, attentive and professional.

The hotel buildings are set amongst beautiful gardens that makes the place feel particularly tranquil. We were upgraded to a room with a balcony overlooking the pool. The view was partially obscured by trees and greenery that afforded a sense of privacy. The room was clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished. It felt pleasantly distinct from a typical Western upmarket hotel.

The restaurant food was very good and the upstairs bar was a perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail.

The hotel was centrally located on what felt like the quieter side of the river. There were always several tuk-tuk drivers waiting outside. If taking one, the hotel staff would always ask where you were going to ensure you weren't overcharged. They would also readily offer an umbrella as you were leaving if there was any chance of rain.

The staff at reception were helpful in organising a driver for two days to take us around the temples, with a tour guide for the first day. We probably paid a fair bit more by arranging this through the hotel, but our guide was excellent and our driver offered us a fresh cold towel after every temple we visited.

We didn't use any of the spa facilities, but did enjoy taking a dip then lazing poolside after touring the temples.

Will certainly stay again if returning to Siem Reap.
