Just Beautiful.
I cannot describe this hotel a better way: Stunning
We have reserved a suite to highlight the end of our trip in Asia at la Residence.
We didn't make a mistake, the reviews are absolutely right.
Probably the best experience in luxury hotels.
The service and the smile of the staff make you feel in another world.
We just came back from Vietnam and the difference as far of service, quality of facilities and food is excellent.
The spa is probably the best in town after trying the cheap one in town.
The management did a great job in every details.
We will highly recommend this place for a perfect experience.

I have traveled through SE Asia quite a bit and I have to say that the service at La Residence is absolutely the warmest I have ever encountered. It may not be as polished and automatic as the service in the top city hotels like The Peninsula but the smiles here are the most genuine and the staff smiles all the time. And I put them to the test: from in-room service to restaurants dining, concierge bookings, secretarial services, poolside service, spa, transport, money changing - think I used every possible service aspect this hotel had and they were always there, trying hard, smiling, making you feel like they really want to help. We were upgraded on arrival to a pool view room and after eyeballing the other rooms on the property, this seems to be the top choice if you are price insensitive. Most quiet and post-card perfect view. The landscaping of the pool and the tikki torches and fire pits they light at night make for a very pretty sight. For touring the temples, I recommed you do a guick google search - there is an increasing number of guides that put up websites and are quite competent. It costs about $25 per day for the guide plus another $25 for a car with driver (which I recommend over tuk-tuk, it can get very dusty on the tuk-tuk ride to the temples and is nice to have some a/c in the car for a break in between sights). The hotel will charge 2x-3x more to arrange the same thing. For top 3 temples we liked Preah Khan, Ta Prohm, Angkor Wat in that order. We woke up one morning at 4:30 am to get to Angkor Wat for sunrise but it was really not worth it. You can take the same pictures at 8am and you can still have your breakfast. Which reminds me, the breakfast at La Residence is not to be missed - a very romantic outdoor garden setting is available, wonderful fresh food with enormous variety and included in room price. We also did dinner one night in the hotel with an Apsara show. The dances rocked, the food though was mediocre, perhaps the only shortcoming of the hotel is its dinner food, very westernized. For excellent local food at half the price and a gorgeous South Beach setting go to Viroth's for dinner, it is round the corner from La Residence, you can walk in 2 minutes. Make sure to go to town by tuk-tuk, it should be about $2 USD each way and the tuk-tuk is much more comfortable than the ones in Thailand for example. In town, we loved Khmer Kitchen for local food (there is 2 of them, go to the one on Pub Street for people watching). We also tried AHA but didn't quite like it. Good people watching if you sit outside but the food was mediocre. The weather in December was excellent, hot but not unbearable during the day and pleasant nights out, I could wear long sleeve shirts comfortably for dinner. La Residence has a great location, fabuluos service and a very lux bungalow setting with all the wood panels. Very highly recommended.

I agree with all the positive reviews - this place is wonderful. However, a couple of comments:
1. quality of bath towels very poor for a high end property.
2. why is there no clock in the room?
3. staff are delightful and very helpful, but the management needs to invest in English lessons. I understand that this is Cambodia, but for an Orient Express hotel charging in excess of $300 per night, staff should understand "fresh milk for coffee". Surely not asking too much.
Pick-up service, house keeping and breakfast all excellent. Dinner average. Overall, a lovely property!

If you want something unique, this is your hotel. It's a small hotel and that means all the staff's attention is on you. Everyone took good care of us and always knew our names. The rooms are pretty massive and have a local feel to them. I highly recommend you have dinner in their restaurant. The food was amazing and I couldn't believe the plate decoration presented to us. Definitely fine dining!!

The hotel is also in a really good location. We could walk to the old market area (about 5-10min) and we always felt safe at night. If you're too lazy, its only a $1 tuk tuk.

Everything about this hotel I adored from the rooms to the service to the pool area to the food. The rooms were extremely romantic and charmingly decorated While sitting at the pool I was even offered and took a free 10 minutes neck and head massage. They went out of their way to be helpful especially considering I had just broke my wrist and was in a cast

Cambodia is very inexpensive, this spot was a bit high for the area. Other than that an excellent spot to stay. Staff was the best. Room was great. Meals (not dinner) were very good. You can take a taxi for $2 anywhere and would recommend eating out at spots on trip advisor. Make sure you bring a bunch of 1 and 2 dollar bills, they go a long way. If we go back we would stay there for sure.

We stayed at La Residence D'Angkor for 5 nights from 23 Dec. Great boutique hotel. Fantastic huge open plan rooms with enormous spa tub, ipod dock, free WIFI, great selection of food at buffet breakfast, little gifts at night during turn down service.. everything you would expect from a 5 star resort. Really great experience.

The only thing that could improve is the service. I can tell the staff are trying very hard, but for a 5 star hotel, the standard is just not there. When we checked in, we were told about the Christmas Gala dinner but no one seems to know what the price was. During check out, quite a few items were missed out on our bills (thank god we were honest), but another bill from someone else who had dodgy handwriting were added on. When i pointed out the mistake the reception wasn't apologetic at all but instead were just amused. The hotel car that dropped us off at the airport had to stop for fuel (which you would think would have been done before picking us up). These are not great faults but thought I should point it out for being an Orient Express hotel I think the service could really be improved.

We stayed at the much cheaper Raffles Le Royal at Phnom Penh for 5 nights prior to Siem Reap and the service is really top notch in comparison.

Overall though the experience at this hotel is top notch. The location is fantastic, a short walk (10 mins) to the town centre but away enough to have some peace and quiet. If you must use the tuks tuks waiting at the front of the hotel, just be aware that they are used to overcharging. We also have the best local guide , Cchay, for 2 days who is excellent in English, knew how to dodge the crowds at Wats and showed us quite a bit of local life in Siem Reap. We booked him via email from Australia and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. (chhay2005@hotmail.com, or 01244079 )

Also love the little French resto just next to the hotel on the side street called Paris Saigon. Very home cooked style intimate and cosy French/Vietnamese food.
