A very welcome reception with cool towels and a drink. Shown to our room by one of the staff and baggage arrived shortly thereafter. Wonderful food in all of the restaurants as well as pool side and in-room dining. Very nice staff and the gift shop is a wonderful find! Great prices on local crafts. Getting to/from the temples is quick and easy. Pool is nice and welcoming after a day of touring.

Room Tip: We stayed at the back of the hotel - a very quiet location with a patio that lead to the pool.

We stayed here from December 5-8, 2013, and it was excellent. The rooms are great, the bathrooms are great, lots of choices at breakfast, and best of all--perfect location. Short ride to the Angkor Wat complex, and short walk to Pub Street, the Night Market, Alley Street, etc. We spent every evening walking around and exploring the Pub Street/Night Market/Alley Street area and ate great food, had excellent foot massages, etc. At one point our AC stopped working--we called down and someone was at our door in minutes and then had it fixed in no time.

1 week at the Victoria Hotel to discover the Kmehr civilsation and their empire. The first contact made was when entering the victoria hotel in the evening. Very unique as you feel immerse immediately in the a different world..The Vitoria hotel is built with all modern facilities but it has a strong spirit and atmosphere of the 30ies...perhaps you feel as the next explorator. The first visual item that you see before entering the hotel is a Citroen C6 1927...think about it, who was in that car in 1927...After the car you are hosted at the reception with a very efficient team and within minutes you are in the room...another discovery again very confortable with all facilities but designed in a way that you imagine it was decades ago..All is done with class, attention to details and very stylish. The hotel crew is wonderful, everything is possible and with the legendary Asian smile. A special tip to the excellent french bistrot/cuisine located in the hotel very enjoyable and excellent wine.
One frustration, it is very hard to understand the staff and reversely very difficult to be understood. If english is now the national language , progresses are needed as tourism language is mostly english. Nevertheless we manage to survive very well!

Room Tip: Suites are always a step ahead of classic room. We had the chance to be in one them. gorgious

Dear RSChamois,

Thank you very much for your very extensive, and very positive review; you obviously had a great time.

May I nevertheless say something about the English skills: as in neighboring countries, people are not always easy to understand. Add to this the fact that in Cambodia in particular the educational system is extremely poor (the older teachers did not survive the Khmer Rouge and the younger teachers are severely underpaid) and I do agree that English can be a challenge.

Whilst English is not the national language, that would still be Khmer, we try to rectify this by offering daily, free, English classes to all our staff. But obviously a marked improvement takes time, as little as ten years ago there were hardly any tourists in Siem Reap.

Once again, thank you for your review and my best wishes for 2014.

This was a pretty good hotel. No complaints about the rooms. Big and spacious with a good view of the pool. Unfortunately, this part of the year, pool doesn't get sun shine so it was too cold for swimming. Service wise pretty standard. Transportation was via tuk tuk most of the time. Unfortunately, bargaining have to be done by yourself with the drivers. Most of the time it was us2. Didn't really like the fact that the concierge pretty much leave it to you on that, but perhaps I am used to meter fares. Anyhow, it was a good trip and hopefully would come back again. Angkor wat is a must see there.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the second floor. If not too tiring after a day of touring Angkor wat, to see stair...

Dear aviator42,

Thank you very much for your review, though I do apologize for the fact that you did not have an entirely satisfactory stay.

It is indeed the cool season, though cool is relative. This morning it was 18 degrees Centigrade whilst the pool was at 25 degrees. Whilst that is certainly too cool for me, you would surely agree that for many Europeans or Americans that is a temperature rarely reached in their home countries.

A word on the Tuk-tuks: whilst we do paint the Tuk-tuks and provide shirts to the drivers, they are actually not employed by the hotel. As much as I hate it personally, bargaining is a way of life here and we can only give indications of how much should be paid.

I do hope that you did enjoy the rest of your stay.

I loved this place. So beautiful, so relaxed, such excellent service. The rooms are comfortable and beautiful and in service they don't leave anything out. It's one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. The outdoor bar by the pool is a very pleasant place to spend part of an afternoon or evening. The locaiton is excellent - out of the very busy part of town but a very close walk to it, right off the Royal Gardens. I guess my only complaint is that there's no gym. But if that doesn't matter to you then I can't think of a better place to stay.

Dear andnobodyknows,

Thank you very much for your review, I am glad to hear that you had a pleasant stay.

I do agree with you, a gym would be a welcome addition. I do hope to address this at some point in the future though it will not be this year.

All the best for 2014.

This hotel is an oasis of casual charm in the hot, intriguing city of Siem Reap. The location of the hotel is excellent, across from a park and the royal residence and all the main attractions are just a short tuk tuk ride away. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, the bathroom was large and the air-cond was cold, i had a balcony room at the back overlooking the pool.....perfect.The buffett breakfast was very good and the other eating options are casual and good as well, especially after a hard day at the temples. The swimming pool, spa and other amenities are of a high standard(the pools a joy as well on a hot Siem Reap afternoon)...the stand-out is the staff....from the front desk, housekeeping, grounds people etc they are all friendly, gracious and professional.....a big thank-you especially to Reak(waiter) and Pongdy(waiter) who made my stay very pleasant and funny......i would stay at this hotel again with-out a doubt.

Avalon Waterways uses this hotel at the end of their Mekong River Cruise. What a great place to stay. The old style architecture (reminded me of the Raffles in Singapore) with spacious verandahs and internal pools and gardens. The room was large with a balcony uand very relaxing overlooking the swimming pool set in beautiful gardens. The room amenities were excellent. The only negative which did not cause us a problem is that the shower is over the bath. Breakfast was extravagant buffet with chef stations for more than the usual items. We ate in the restaurant a few times and were very happy with the menu choice and friendly service. Dining can be inside or under the shady area amongst the garden overlooking the pool. The hotel has two very old style lifts that were fun to use and brought back some good memories. There is a park opposite the hotel and walking to the shops and markets is very easy. We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay and we would definitely choose to stay here again.

Dear KandiManPeth.

I would like to thank you for having taken the time to write your extensive review.

I do think that the Victoria Angkor is indeed well placed; away from the madness that is Pub Street but still close enough to ensure that all attractions are just a short walk or Tuk-tuk ride away.

All my best wishes for 2014 and I do hope to be able to welcome you again should your travels take you back to Siem Reap.
