You've seen the pictures, now go do it in reality. Get up early, go with your guide and watch the sunrise.....we were unlikely to have cloudy skies but the experience was still memorable. Then walk round it again with a guide to explain the rich history and culture of the place. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and a cap, and take plenty of water. The shear scale, artistry and design will take your breath away. A once in a lifetime experience

Angkor Wat is clearly a must see attraction Siem Reap. The temple is beautiful and the architecture is like nothing I've ever seen. However, the hordes of tourists take away from the tranquility of the temples. I recommend visiting the temples for the sunrise or sunset tours when there are very few tourists. Also stay in the temple during lunch hours when all the other tourists are leaving.

Guides offer themselves at the entrance. If you're really into the history and details get one. There's too much to see otherwise. If you're just soaking it up then avoid them.

If you're going to explore a Cambodian temple, this is the one to see.
Riding on our Tuk Tuks through the dark and seeing the mystical temples was a truly memorable experience for me.
I recommend watching the sunrise in front of the temple, it is truly an amazing start to the day.
Make sure you've got your walking shoes on.
Dislikes: How scary and dangerous it was walking up the almost vertical stairs to the climax of the temple (this was worth it though).

Angkor Wat is not just a simple stop and see kind of place, it is somewhere you should immerse yourself in. I highly suggest get a three day pass. You need time to explore the whole temple complex to really appreciate its grandiose size and beauty. I was overwhelmed in how big the whole complex was. It went beyond my expectation. One great way of exploring it is through bike ride. The whole area is flat. It will also give you a chance to stop and enjoy the scenery. For solo travelers, you can meet people by joining a tour group on your first day. The tour will let you have a safe and a peek of the complex so you can plan your own exploring for the next few days. The place is relatively safe but if you are traveling travel light. Food and drinks are readily available around the usual tourist stops. Locals living inside the complex are relatively friendly and eager to share their own version of the temple's history.
Some to the temples are still being used to religious purposes to be mindful of the some practices and customs just to show respect.
