“Lovely Guesthouse”
Reviewed 16 May 2013

After a 6 hour bust trip from Phnom Penh, Mom's guesthouse was just what we needed for a rest. Had aTuk tuk waiting for us from the bus terminal. Check in was smooth and was led to a decent sized triple room with a small TV and airconditioning.

Everything is clean, especially the bathroom -sized right as well. They have toothbrush and toothpaste and soap.

Wifi was just great inside the room as every floor has their own, with routers just outside almost every door. No lift though. One night, we were out late and didn't have dinner yet. Although the kitchen is already closing they accommodated our requests.

There's a lovely pool too. :) The best thing are the staff, they are just wonderful to talk to. you can ask them for suggestions where to eat, what to do and they will gladly help.

the hotel was very lovely and had a warm and beautiful pool. the hotel is also just a few minutes by tuk tuk from town, which costs $1 per person each way. the rooms were very clean and nice.

Очень хороший и чистый отель, в тихом месте. в 5 минутах езды на тук туке от найт маркета. Хороший бассейн. Есть тренажёры :) Рекомендую!

Organising a stay with extra curricular activities for 5 people couldn't have been easier. Mr Chhay is a very obliging host and we were well looked after. I'd requested different sized bikes for us (kids/adults) in the hope of cycling around all the wats, which he managed to do, but when we got there the average heat was 44° and we were loathe to driving around in an a/c 7 seater, so he organised 2 tuk tuks for us with a guide. She was excellent, knew her stuff backwards. When we couldn't be persuaded to get out of the pool to go off on our air balloon excursion, it was not a problem to defer it to the next morning. Basically nothing was a problem and Mr Chhay was always smiling.

We stayed at Mom's for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. Booking was very uncomplicated, we also arranged for a tour package which was a great decision. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are simple but have everything you need including a working aircon. Breakfast is good, but it gets a bit boring when staying more than 1 night. All in all great value for money!

We were welcomed by Mr. Chhay, the owner of Mom’s Guesthouse with a very big smile when we arrived a little before 8pm. We were tired and exhausted from the bus trip from Siem Reap, and it felt like a relative of yours has been anticipating your arrival all this time.

I called him up to let him know that we’re close. He said that he’ll send a tuktuk to pick us up from the bus stop, and true enough, the tuktuk driver was there right on time.

Entrance the hotel is like entering your home.  There are two computer stations by the stairs, at the area where breakfast is served. You can use it at any time you wish. Didn’t have to use it though, since the wifi proved to be efficient at the common areas. Signal was not as strong inside the rooms though. Hope they could do something with this.

Room we got with balcony is $28 / night for 2 pax.

The aircon and ref worked well.

There’s a dinner performance at the restaurant right beside the hotel (Bayon Restaurant) that usually starts at around 630-7pm and ends at around 830pm.

During our stay, there were fireworks. To foreigners, it sounded as if someone was just being “trigger happy”. Good thing Mr. Chhay called us up to tell us not to worry as their neighbour is just lighting fireworks to celebrate “Victory Day”, to commemorate the end of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Cambodia). Imagine him calling up all the guests rooms one by one just to say that! 

Housekeeping ladies were noisy in the morning. Hope they can do something about this too.

Breakfast is prepared by Mr. Chhay’s mom. They have unlimited coffee refills! This is awesome for coffee addicts like me.

Breakfast consists of Bread, Butter, Strawberry Jam, Egg the way you like it, Assorted Fruits and a coffee. You can change it to milk if you wish.

The pool has been recently renovated and it’s a great way to relax when you have already exhausted every touristy place in Siem Reap.

Availed of the tour package from Mr. Chhay. We were penny-pinching and decided to take out lunch and dinner from the package. So we were down to $95 for 2 pax inclusive of: Tuktuk, Tour Guide, the entrance fees for Angkor Wat and 3 bottles of cold water, 1 I have noticed was taken by our tourguide so that makes it 2. Some may find this expensive but since we went during peak season, booked it on such a short notice, plus Mr. Chhay is nice, we agreed. 

He allowed us to print our boarding passes for free!

Mr. Chhay can speak French. 

A word of advice: As much as possible, do not leave valuables inside the room that are not locked up inside the safety deposit box. Or valuables that you can’t bring with you. If it’s cash, just fly in with what you can carry in your bag. Meaning, don’t bring more than a week’s worth of travel money just to leave it lying around. If you need more cash, there are a lot of ATM machines in Siem Reap. Better to spend on the ATM fee than lose all of your vacation monies in one go.

Given the chance, we will definitely come back!

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, get a room that's far from the stairs

I stayed for 3 nights and consider it to be one of the best bargains in Cambodia. The price was right, the staff are very helpful, airconditioning works perfectly, there were always hot showers and a great complementary breakfast of fruit, omlet and baguette was provided. The outdoor pool has chaises longes for sunbathing and the staff will bring you snacks such as fresh coconut if you wish. Furthermore it is centrally located with a fast laundry opposite.

In a tourist town where charming guests houses and hotels abound I see no reason to stay at Mom's. Our room was small, poorly arranged, noisy, with a bathroom door that was hard to close. In addition, it was the least clean of anyplace we stayed and there were no amenities except two very thin towels. The public spaces are attractive.
