“Great stay”
Reviewed 23 March 2013

The hotel can and did arrange a Tuk Tuk from the airport to the hotel. If you've never done that before, don't worry. It was completely safe, legit, and affordable but I do recommend having the hotel arrange the pick up as there are many Tuk Tuks at the airport. We were greeted with a ice cold beverage. The ice was safe to drink. Nobody from our group got sick. Staff were super friendly, probably the nicest we had in our entire SE Asia trip. Don't be alarmed that everyone leaves their shoes on the steps entering the hotel. They'll be there when you get back. The room was a bit small but very nice, clean, and suitable for us. There was a nice balcony. The morning time could have been a bit noisy. The hotel is across from a school and lots of construction going on around there. But we had early morning trips and no mid-day napping so it worked for us. It is walking distance from the main market area with lots of restaurants and shopping.

I say "Thank God" because after staying 1 awful night at the nearby Ei8ht Rooms Guest House (dark, dank, and dismal) we felt like we had arrived in heaven when we walked in the front door of Golden Butterfly. The staff presented us with cool scented towels to refresh ourselves and, while we were filling out the guest card, served us chilled lemon tea and snacks. The decor is bright and cheery, the staff outstanding in their effort to please, and the room perfect in every way - great A/C, working fridge, plenty of hot water and water pressure, and comfortable bed. The complimentary massage, full bar, and kitchen that's open from 7 AM to 11 PM only added to an already fabulous experience. Coffee, tea and bananas are complimentary and breakfast can be had in the lobby starting at about 2 USD. Others have talked about the construction work next door, but since it starts at about 9 AM and ends at about 4:30 PM, we didn't find it to be a bother. Others have also mentioned that it is down a short, unpaved side street, but after having been in Hanoi, Hue, and Hoi An Vietnam recently, we didn't find that to be an issue either. We had a room with no balcony for 20 USD a night and couldn't have been happier with our overall experience.

Room Tip: I agree with others that having a balcony is not worth the extra money. The view is nothing special...

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting the nearby Angkor complex as their sister hotel (Golden Temple Villa) was full.

We had a very pleasant experience with the super helpful staff, and all the little complementary treats others have mentioned (free iced tea and watermelon on arrival, 30 minute free massage, PCs, WiFi, bicycles to take out for the day etc) plus the other facilities (tour guides, tuk-tuk / taxi drivers, onward transport arrangements and restaurant) were all very good for this price range. The location is good, down a side street not too far from the main restaurant / bar area of Pub Street, but it is quite dark so bring a torch to avoid being run over by local motorbike drivers!

Only downside is the nearby building work which is quite noisy but will probably be finished in a few weeks / months, and the views from the balconies are a little uninspiring. Cleaning was also a bit too late in the day, so when we got up early to see sunrise at the temples we got back well before our room had been cleaned.

Very good, and will probably only get better.

I booked this room on the last minute (1 night before) and was thankfully able to get a room. First, they picked us up at the airport in a tuk tuk and drove us to the hotel free. The room rate included airport transportation, free wifi, all taxes and fees, a welcome drink of cold lemon tea, watermelon and sticky rice on arrival, and a 30 min. massage for both my husband and I!!! This was the best value in all of Southeast Asia and the favorite hotel I stayed at. Free coffee, jasmine tea (the only place in all of Southeast Asia that I was able to get loose leaf tea, and not an inedible Lipton teabag) and bananas are available all day in the lobby. The front desk is very helpful in arranging transportation (arranged a tuk tuk driver all day for 2 days very reasonably), restaurant recommendations, provides free bicycles that we rode into town each evening for dinner. Very close to nightlife, about a 1 min. bicycle ride to Pub Street and Night Market. Breakfast is not included, but very reasonable and available in the lobby, as is a full bar. We even had wine for $3 a glass. Waiter's English is not very good, and even though we pointed to a glass of white wine that had a picture of the bottle, we received a glass of red wine. We didn't mind, as the staff is so friendly and accommodating! The only drawbacks I had were that my room with a view had a lovely balcony, but it overlooked a very run-down residential backyard, there was barking dog all morning long, and a school next door bellowed with screaming children playing all day long. None of these would deter me from staying here again though. The rooms are impeccable, beautifully decorated, a lovely persimmon color. There is a safe available in the lobby, but not in the room. It is a little off the beaten path down a narrow residential street that appeared a little scary, but we never felt threatened, even late at night. This place is a gem in Cambodia and well worth the price.

Room Tip: Room with a "view" was a poorly kept residential backyard of dirt, so save $5 and get a ro...

We arrived late from the airport and were very curious about the highly recommended Butterfly Villa. It is in a quite area with red road but Siem Reap center (night market) is in about 5 minutes walking distance. Our welcome was very friendly with delicious fresh lime lemonade and Cambodian rice cake. The rooms were quite big, clean and furnished modern but with Khmer influence. We ordered typical Khmer food for reasonable prices which was excellent and can also be served to the room. In the morning staff helped us to make up a plan for our three days stay and booked a Tuk Tuk driver for us (also for reasonable price). Mr. T was a young English speaking, very friendly and save driver who took us to various Angkor temples, Tonle Sap lake as well as back to the airport. He offered us cold water and refreshment towels each time we came back to his Tuk Tuk after sightseeing. All in all Cambodia at its best!
