“A Polished Surprise”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

While exploring for artwork I stumbled upon Angkor Artwork here on trip advisor. At the time it only had two 5 star reviews and decided to take a chance on finding it. Upon entering the shop I was greeted by Eric and he couldn't have been nicer. His craftswoman had the day off and he took the time to walk us though the shop showing us how every part of their workshop is structured from making Buddhas to their beautiful gold leaf & silver leaf canvas paintings.

I ended up purchasing a painting and had it shipped back to the US, (it actually BEAT us home) it was in perfect order and will have to stay it looks stunning framed on our wall.

There are so many wonderful pieces here, make the trip!

“Boutique artisan - blending tradition and creativity”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

We were lucky to meet both Eric and Thierry Stocker at their boutique workshop/gallery. After an interesting tour of the workshop we spent a couple of hours discussing with them in the gallery. We greatly appreciated this opportunity to get some insight in the art and creation "milieu" of the Angkor area.

The two brothers create handicraft and decorative items using only natural and vegetal materials, going as far as having their own forest of lacquer tree. In the old tradition of "French companions" they develop new techniques while nourishing the traditional knowledge of the area, passing it on to the local craftsmen they employ. Some of their employees are deaf people from the Krousar Thmey NGO. Eric and Thierry's approach and initiatives are well worth supporting!

Their creations can be found in many high-end venues across South-East Asia and if you stay in an upmarket hotel in Siem Reap, it is likely you will see some of their art on display.

If you are in Siem Reap, don't miss the chance to visit this enchanting place!

“Small but worth the visit”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

We visited Angkor Artwork in August 2013. It is a small workshop producing and selling lacquered Buddhas. bowls and the like. The word working is performed elsewhere so this workshop specialises in the application of the lacquers and gilding. They also do canvas artwork. The quality of the work, and individuality of each piece, is what sets this place apart. It is great to see such investment of time and skill to produce pieces of art that say so much more about Cambodia than the mass produced alternatives available in many places.

“Art and vegetal lacquer in Cambodia”
Reviewed 8 March 2013

I had the chance to visit this address, not easy to reach so it’s better to call them first, during my trip to SR in January. I was really amazed by the beauty and the techniques used by those artists. They explain you everything about the vegetal lacquer, that they are the only one to use in Cambodia, during the visit of their workshop and you can see at work their qualified artisans (which some are deaf) realizing for me the most gorgeous Buddha I've ever seen, lovely painting by oxidation process, and lacquerware products for the art of the table/decoration. Visit this highlight of the artistic scene of SR, and be sure to fall in love with their work, like I did...
