Owner description: Phare, The Cambodian Circus "Amazing vibe & energy, transforming the lives of Cambodian youth" Experience Siem Reap's most unique, authentic top rated (TripAdvisor & Lonely Planet) evening entertainment. More than just a circus, Phare, the Cambodian Circus performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent. Phare artists are students and graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak's vocational training centre in Battambang. The association was formed in 1994 by 9 young men coming home from a refugee camp after the Khmer Rouge regime. They were greatly helped during that time by an art teacher using drawing classes as therapy and wanted to share this new skill among the poor, socially deprived and troubled youngsters in Battambang. They founded an art school and public school followed to offer free education. A music school and theatre school were next and finally, for the kids who wanted more, the circus school. Today more than 1,200 pupils attend the public school daily and 500 attend the alternative schools. Phare Ponleu Selpak also has extensive outreach programs, trying to help with the problems highlighted in their own tales. Phare The Cambodian Circus offers these students and graduates somewhere to hone their skills and a place to earn a decent wage. Money that will take them out of poverty and give them self-respect and freedom.

Loved this show. Tons of talent and energy in a small scale setting that makes for a much more intimate performance. You can tell the performers are having a great time and really pushing themselves to do their best. Don't miss it.

These guys are so incredibly talented! Well worth spending an evening to go and see them. The tent is actually quite small so gets very hot in there (even just sat down, let alone jumping around all over the place) but because its so small its a very intimate show and friendly atmosphere. The show is told as a story so it links the tricks and skills together and has the added bonus of being an emotional journey as well.

Definitely not Cirque Du soleil as most reviewers have compared it to - more like a very entertaining, exciting, full of energy and fun street performers. Reasonable entrance fee for a good cause. Come early to get center seats - but actually there is no bad seat unless you seat behind the two tent pillars.

Dear Augie J,

Thank you for sharing your experience of Phare, the Cambodian Circus.

We are always honored, humbled and surprised when reviewers compare Phare to world class companies. Phare is energetic, enthusiastic, dedicated, talented, young Cambodian performers from unimaginably difficult social and economic backgrounds. Phare is modern, daring circus arts, music, theater and dance telling stories from a uniquely Cambodian perspective. We hope that audiences really connect with the artist and their story.

Your suggestion to arrive early for good seating is very true. Another way is to pre-reserve a seat in the front 2 rows of the center section by booking Preferred Seating, and then guests can enter at their leisure right up until show time. Details can be found on our web site.

Thanks again for taking the time to write the review. Your feedback is very helpful.

Sincerely,

Craig Dodge
Director of Sales & Marketing

High octane acrobatics and stunts performed by young people from a performance and circus arts school for children who'd had difficult backgrounds of trauma or dislocation. Jaw dropping feats - an exciting performance which the adults in the audience, as well as the children, really seemed to enjoy. Well worth a visit.
