Owner description: Phare, The Cambodian Circus "Amazing vibe & energy, transforming the lives of Cambodian youth" Experience Siem Reap's most unique, authentic top rated (TripAdvisor & Lonely Planet) evening entertainment. More than just a circus, Phare, the Cambodian Circus performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent. Phare artists are students and graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak's vocational training centre in Battambang. The association was formed in 1994 by 9 young men coming home from a refugee camp after the Khmer Rouge regime. They were greatly helped during that time by an art teacher using drawing classes as therapy and wanted to share this new skill among the poor, socially deprived and troubled youngsters in Battambang. They founded an art school and public school followed to offer free education. A music school and theatre school were next and finally, for the kids who wanted more, the circus school. Today more than 1,200 pupils attend the public school daily and 500 attend the alternative schools. Phare Ponleu Selpak also has extensive outreach programs, trying to help with the problems highlighted in their own tales. Phare The Cambodian Circus offers these students and graduates somewhere to hone their skills and a place to earn a decent wage. Money that will take them out of poverty and give them self-respect and freedom.

Really impressed by the stamina and skill of the performers who kept going solidly for the hour. The story element to the act was entertaining, funny and well balanced between performance and background story. All the performs are incredibly talented and really seem to enjoy what they do. Everyone in the audience seemed to love it and there was a great atmosphere to the performance. Well worth it.

Last week we brought dozens of kids from Taramana Centre watching the Phare Cambodian Circus. It was just amazing. This Circus should be shown all around the world. Young Cambodian artists perform such a great entertainment. Just go and enjoy it!

I highly recommend going to the Cambodian Circus during your visit to Siem Reap! We purchased tickets through our hotel the day of (only $15 each) and showed up close to the performance time. The circus is conveniently located only a 5 minute tuk tuk ride from Pub Street so it is easy to get a quick bite before or after the show. Upon arriving, I was impressed about how organized everything was. We were quickly shuffled thru and even given fans to use during the performance. An usher quickly seated us and we ended up in the front row. Being right at the front you feel like you are almost in the performance! The performance was great and the money from admission also goes to a great cause. This is definitely a must do if you have a free night!
