Owner description: Phare, The Cambodian Circus "Amazing vibe & energy, transforming the lives of Cambodian youth" Experience Siem Reap's most unique, authentic top rated (TripAdvisor & Lonely Planet) evening entertainment. More than just a circus, Phare, the Cambodian Circus performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent. Phare artists are students and graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak's vocational training centre in Battambang. The association was formed in 1994 by 9 young men coming home from a refugee camp after the Khmer Rouge regime. They were greatly helped during that time by an art teacher using drawing classes as therapy and wanted to share this new skill among the poor, socially deprived and troubled youngsters in Battambang. They founded an art school and public school followed to offer free education. A music school and theatre school were next and finally, for the kids who wanted more, the circus school. Today more than 1,200 pupils attend the public school daily and 500 attend the alternative schools. Phare Ponleu Selpak also has extensive outreach programs, trying to help with the problems highlighted in their own tales. Phare The Cambodian Circus offers these students and graduates somewhere to hone their skills and a place to earn a decent wage. Money that will take them out of poverty and give them self-respect and freedom.

“Amazing Show”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

This show was simply an amazing display of acrobatics, the countries culture, and a great story. All of the gymnasts put amazing an amazing effort and charisma into the show. I was gripped from the start because of the audience involvement. You felt like you were part of the show.

“No regret! ”
Reviewed 21 June 2014 via mobile

Just like an average joe, I was reading some reviews about this and visited its official site. Following what a roman would expect in Rome, I was thinking " it must be some acts mixed with local cultural dances , half yawning ready..."

We approached our hotel front desk at 6:30pm and asked if the show was still on, as it was pouring!

"Of course, do you want to buy tickets sir"

15 mins later, a Tuk Tuk transported us there. At the gravel ground as we arrive, there were friendly staff in the rain with a few umbrellas escorting guests to the tents... the customer journey is same as the bigger international players... you go through a small gift shop... then snack area before entering the main tent...

The show was simply organic, energetic, sweaty with thrill! You just have to watch it yourself!

Btw, the organization is connected to some charity work in Cambodia.

“Breathtaking”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

What a wonderful experience. Went to a circus but unlike any circus we had seen before. It was an hour filled with laughter, sadness, energy, magic. The kids involved were so talented & the passion they showed was incredible.
This was definitely a highlight of our stay in Siem Reap.
