Owner description: Phare, The Cambodian Circus "Amazing vibe & energy, transforming the lives of Cambodian youth" Experience Siem Reap's most unique, authentic top rated (TripAdvisor & Lonely Planet) evening entertainment. More than just a circus, Phare, the Cambodian Circus performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent. Phare artists are students and graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak's vocational training centre in Battambang. The association was formed in 1994 by 9 young men coming home from a refugee camp after the Khmer Rouge regime. They were greatly helped during that time by an art teacher using drawing classes as therapy and wanted to share this new skill among the poor, socially deprived and troubled youngsters in Battambang. They founded an art school and public school followed to offer free education. A music school and theatre school were next and finally, for the kids who wanted more, the circus school. Today more than 1,200 pupils attend the public school daily and 500 attend the alternative schools. Phare Ponleu Selpak also has extensive outreach programs, trying to help with the problems highlighted in their own tales. Phare The Cambodian Circus offers these students and graduates somewhere to hone their skills and a place to earn a decent wage. Money that will take them out of poverty and give them self-respect and freedom.

The energy and the enthusiasm is unparalleled. The kids are very happy ding their acts and the small 'BIG TOP' gives a close feeling to all guests. The icing is that this goes to help under-privileged children and adolescents. GO and never regret it.

I went to see Eclipse last night and had a really good time. The show had mostly tumbling, juggling and teether board with some equilibristics. The artists obviously liked performing and even insisted on audience participation, without forcing anyone. We could take pictures with the (sweaty!) artists after the show. Worth the $15. I wouldn't have paid the $35 for VIP, as if you arrive early, you can get seats just as good.

Beside the temples, do not miss Phare Circus. The show is really very good, great tumbling and comedy, good local storyline, good safe comfortable setting. The sustainable and socially responsible nature seems to be a very positive factor on the entire production. Definitely book, don't miss.

We had such an amazing time with our 3 kids aged 2,5 & 7 at Phare.

The performances were outstanding and it was such a high energy, fun environment. The circus is small so you are up close to the action. We went for the more expensive seats mainly because this is a charity so happy to pay more but being straight onto the action was also worth it. If you have less money to spend and get there early you can also get great seats for just $15.

The range of acts combined with the story line, energy and level of performance was far greater than we expected. I can understand how some of these performers have gone to to Cirque Du Soleil - they are real high level pro performers with 10 years plus experience.

We have seen Cirque Du Soleil and other similar shows in London and Las Vagas and I can honestly say for pure enjoyment value I preferred Phare. They don't compete on the scale and cost of production but win on energy, intimate environment and high octane fun.

We were all mesmerised. Combine this with the great cause and its an absolute must see in Siem Reap.

While the towers of Ankor Wat may be your primary reason for visiting Siem Reap, the dazzling show at Phare is not to be missed. The NGO does incredible work to provide opportunities to Cambodian children, and the incredible result is on display with this show.
