“Charming, but sadly in need of some renovation”
Reviewed 28 April 2012

Ahhh, La Noria. Our family of 5 stayed in two top floor rooms in December 2011 as part of an extended group booking. How did I feel about this hotel? Mixed opinions. The overall feel is that the place has a lovely old world charm to it, but at the expense of cleanliness and basic modern amenities.

Loved: the pool, the French breakfast, the location by the river, the friendly staff, the well kept gardens, the low-key atmosphere, the child-friendly vibe and the boutique feel.

Did not love: the rooms and furniture needed renovation and maintenance, the bathrooms needed a total renovation (dreadful shower, mould, rotting timber joinery), bed linen was threadbare and bathtowels were a disgrace, the smell of sewage that wafted around, the water pumping station behind the hotel which was noisy, and a general level of decay in the structure of the buildings.

There is a huge amount of competition for your accommodation dollar in Siem Reap. I am not a fan of the big sterile hotels, nor of the extravagant, western priced 5 star resorts. But there are numerous lovely boutique hotels and resorts offering different styles of tasteful accommodation and friendly service for very competitive rates.

La Noria, you may have been lovely in the past but I think its time for a bit of heavy duty maintenance and renovation if you are going to continue to charge the rates you charge. There is a reason this hotel sits around the middle ranks of over 200 hotels in Siem Reap. Other places are making a bit more of an effort. Don't lose your charm, but try to be a little more charming!

Would I come back and stay again? That's a tough one. I'd want to know there had been major overhaul!

Room Tip: Go for a top floor room. The ground floor rooms are a bit dark and dingy.

First of all, thanks to have chosen La Noria and thanks for your comment on trip advisor. You have stayed in december 2011 and would have been surprised to see the renovation having started end of March 2012 as we would have guessed your thoughts...
In your comment you seem to have understood our desire to preserve its charm, keeping only 28 rooms on 2500sqm of lush garden, right in the center and along the river, despite hard competition on prices with "big, sterile, laundry hotels". The "side-effect" of the charm of the nature are the cost for maintenance and a very fast aging process of the construction due to humidity, especially after the dramatic floodings we did support last October which have damaged many of the rooms. Being to near from the high season, it was impossible for us to launch the needed renovation. It is now started in order to offer from this summer a renovated LA NORIA, keeping its dedicated and welcoming staff to offer you the best conditions to experience and love Cambodia as we do.
We look forward to welcoming you again.
La Noria's team.

La Noria is a wonderful little hotel.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The grounds are garden like and well looked after( there were staff collecting leaves, flowers, etc. that had fallen on the stone pathway-by hand!), and the restaurant served good food and drink( try the pineapple juice).
The kids really enjoyed the pool after hot hours spent at the temples.
The hotel is in a great spot: 10-15 minute walk to the market area on the opposite side of the river, yet far enough away to be peaceful at night. And the entrance to the temples is a 5+ minute drive.
All in all, a great experience.

Room Tip: Our rooms were to the back of the complex, which was great for peace and quiet but a bit tough to dr...

nice bungalows in a wonderfull garden, very quiet, good restaurant, in a very appropriate Siem Reap location.
Kind people, traditional comfort in nice bungalows, no awful air cond' noise, a real way of relaxing after intense culture; We really appreciated.

1. The 'guide' we reserved in november 11 for 7 days had now idea about the program he sent to us. It seems that somebody wrote this for him or he was an other guide? We finally organized our guide in Siem Reap.
2. The laundry service unprofessional; 3 shirts spoilt over with red color! Than the told us, we gave them like that to them! They tried to wash them again and the shirts came only washed to the room not any more wearable and they charged the whole amount.
3. We asked to sty two nights longer, nevertheless no cooperation, we left.
4. We also think, time as been better in this hotel and they overcharge the small rooms.
5. We would never go back or make a recomandation.

The place is nice, absolutely, but not at ALL worth what you pay for!! You can stay for half the price, and just as good! La Noria was probably very luxurious and worth it 5y ago.. Not now..

The rooms in La Noria are set in several houses in a wonderful lush tropical garden, with a nice swimming pool in the middle, great for relaxing after a hard day of exhaustive sight seeing at the dusty temples of Angkor.

Room Tip: Rooms are either on the ground floor or upstairs, each has a little terrace. The terraces upstairs a...

Close to the city center, a few minutes walking, but very quiet with the bungalows in a garden. Can be a good spot to relax in simplicity after visiting the temples. Good restaurant, nice personnel.
