The Royal Empire Hotel is located about 10 minutes away from the Siem Reap airport and about 10 minutes away from Bar Street (good food)...take a tuk-tuk there ($3). Location wise, I thought it was ideal since to get to the temples we hired a driver with an air conditioned car anyways ($30/day + generous tip for also voluntarily giving out great information about Siem Reap and being an all around nice guy).

The room was comfortable; beds and pillows were excellent. The air conditioning had a mind of its own. Our room faced the pool which was being remodelled which was not an issue. The service was just OK. The staff were either not knowlegable or did not want to help; I couldn't figure out which one. Breakfast was below average. We often (2 out of 3 days) had to wait for coffee despite the restaurant being open for buffet at 7 am. This was frustrating when trying to meet up your driver at 7:30 am to start temple-ing.

This hotel definitely served its purpose; a place to shower, sleep, and eat breakfast while exploring Siem Reap. If you're planning on spending anytime at the hotel, I wouldn't recommend this one. But if you've got a days full of outside activities, then this will work.

We enjoy staying in this hotel pretty much. We stayed two nites here. Room is spacious and
clean. Wifi is available upon request to the reception. Breakfast is below average as there are not many choices. The poolside is very windy with very nice decorations. The bathroom is not in good condition.

Room Tip: The rooms with the poolside view were better.

Stayed for three nights at the Royal Empire and found it a very pleasant, relaxing and comfortable base. It is of an acceptable standard for a 4-star hotel. Our room was spacious and well-equipped, with an excellent bathroom.
The pool area is lovely, especially on a night with the illuminations in the surrounding trees. The spa was excellent, with an hours massage for $20. The restaurant served well-priced and tasty food, but it is not fine-dining.
Although out of town there was an endless supply of tuk-tuks available to transport us to restaurants and shops, and one of the best restaurants in Siem Reap is only about five minutes walk away.

This hotel is a small bit outside the centre of town, but really the trip into town by tuktuk is quite enjoyable so that is not a problem. It is a good location in many ways as it pretty much the same distance to the centre of town, to the airport or to Angkor Wat. There are always tuktuks to town for two dollars or so.

I liked the decor, dark woods with pale walls and rich Cambodian decoration. The bedroom was spacious with a decent ensuite and with a good view of the very pleasant pool area. The bar and restaurant are large and well maintained; the range of food and drinks availale is not wide, and very expensive for Cambodia; go to Bar Street and enjoy a wide range of foods for much less. Despite an earlier review, there is Wifi, but it is wildly expensive for Cambodia.

Staff try their best but are poorly trained. Seeing as I was a single male traveller they attempted to charge me a "lady fee" for a non-existent "visitor"! They backed down quickly when challenged but it was still irritating. Similarly they attempted to charge for telephone calls which were not made; again I was able to challenge this. However the cleaning was quick and courteous and the room was fresh and clean each day.

Although it has its ups and downs, for the price this hotel is good value and despite very minor irritations I actually really enjoyed my stay of three days,
