This was our second visit to Siem Reap and Journeys Within. My partner and I like to book our holidays independently, but having stayed at JW before and experienced a wonderful stay, we decided to ask Andrea to plan our second visit to Cambodia, and we weren't disappointed. We stayed at JW for 6 nights. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely sized balcony. I can't say enough about the fantastic staff and the wonderful service that they provide. Although there were building works going on during our stay, it didn't impact on our enjoyment at all - we were happy that JW were able to expand in order to allow even more people to stay there in the future. Breakfast was pre-ordered the night before and served inside or out (depending on the weather) - always cooked to perfection. We occasionally had lunch there which was also lovely. One small point - proper 'English' tea bags would have made breakfast complete, but it's not even worth complaining about. We will bring our own next time!! We had pre-booked our tuk tuk driver and guide before the trip - they were always punctual, unfailingly polite, informative and friendly when on our trips. We were lucky enough to spend an afternoon at Journeys Within Our Community nextdoor to the hotel to help out at an English class for adults. We were so impressed with the work that Brandon and Andrea do for the local community and how it impacts on their life chances. Siem Reap is a truly magnificent place and we can't wait to go back to JW soon (August 2013 to be exact!) What stood out for us the most was the freindly welcome we received every time we returned from an outing - it sounds cliched but we honestly felt as though we were returning home every night, such was the warmth and kindness of all the staff. Do not hesitate to stay here when you are in town! You will have an amazing time. Guaranteed!

We contacted Journey's Within a few months ago when we decided we wanted to take our 7 year-old out of suburbia to teach him how to really be grateful on Thanksgiving. What a marvelous trip! We simply told Journey's Within tour company our budget and a rough idea of what we'd like to see and they planned it all. For UNDER budget.

The hotel was immaculate and thoughtfully planned. We stayed in the new family suite. There were two rooms with a door between and two bathrooms. The kid's suite was huge. We could have slept at least 5 kids in there. Our room was well appointed and lovely. The furniture was handmade by local artisans from sketches Andrea had made. So beautiful, but durable enough for my son and some other kids not to destroy. The linens were divine after our long flight. The bathrooms, with rock floor shower and generous shower head, were beautiful.

There were thoughtful touches; Andrea, the hotel owner, got tired of wasting so much soap so she simply went to the factory and asked them to give her a large portions she could just cut. The shampoo and conditioner were not the regular cheap hotel crap. There was A/C in every room, mini fridge drinks were free. The staff did our laundry! When you arrive they greet you with fresh drinks and Cambodian scarves as a welcome present on your bed.

The hotel has a casual restaurant that has western and Cambodian food but really they will make you whatever you want. You can eat it in your room, under the fans on your private lanai or at the glass enclosed cafe. The kitchen staff are awesome. We taught them how to make chocolate chip cookies and they also let us use the kitchen to make pumpkin cake on Thanksgiving. Want coconut curry? No worries, someone just goes outside and CLIMBS A PALM TREE to get you some.

My son was desperate to try out the fish pond on the property and Brandon, the hotel owner, loaned him a pole, baited it and waited with him. When they caught a fish, the restaurant staff cleaned and prepared it for him and served it to us for dinner. That is SERVICE!!

The hotel also has a kids' club. I would not have imagined leaving my son in the care of strangers in a foreign country to go out to dinner, but when I met "D" and the rest of the kids' club team I was sure they were better parents then I am. The kids club also cares for Andrea and Brandon's children for some of the day so there are always playmates!

I know this is just a hotel review, but I'd be remiss if I did not also mention the tour guide and non-profit services Journey's Within encompasses. Using their tour guides was seemless. I can tell they handpick people they think are a good match. I never felt unsafe or nervous. My favorite moment was entering Angkor Wat thru the back way that other people didn't know about. It was empty and quiet. I felt like Indiana Jones.

We also spent an afternoon teaching children in an art class at the non-profit they run next door. Amazing.

Room Tip: Request the family suite, but really any room would do. Some of the bungalows have steep stairs whic...

We stayed 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was lovely - clean and spacious and well thought out. The staff friendly and keen to assist. Being out of the main drag was a welcome relief. Tours were well organized with fantastic tour staff. I highly recommend this hotel.

We contracted with Journeys Within to organize a trip for us to Vietnam and Cambodia. We organized the first half, which included a trip to Sapa and a three night cruise on Halong Bay(Indochina Junk is a great company). Journeys Within then met us at the Indochina Junk pier and guided us through Hoi An, Saigon, up the Mekong and through Siem Reap.

For each phase of the trip, JW provided superb guides, recommended great accommodations, and engaged with us to help us plan our daily itineraries. Their guides for Saigon and Siem Reap were particularly notable.

In Siem Reap, we stayed at their B & B. It was a great alternative to the bigger hotels. The rooms were spacious, including good quality furnishings. The swimming pool met our needs for late day exercise. And, the food was very good for breakfast and lunch. But, most noteworthy was the staff. They were very attentive and took the time to make sure that our needs were met. Brandon and Andrea(the owners) are very genuine. They are very committed to Cambodia and to their being a positive force in working to improve the lives of the people.

I wholeheartedly recommend Journeys Within with as a guide/travel service for SE Asia and as an excellent boutique type hotel in Siem Reap.

We had first heard of Journeys Within a few years ago, but did not make it to Cambodia at the time. When the opportunity arose to take a trip to Siem Reap, we immediately got in touch with Journeys Within. Andrea was very helpful and arranged a customized 3 day tour with just a few days' notice. We were met at the airport by Mr. Senthep, our guide, and taken to the hotel. (Incidentally, one of our bags did not make it on the flight, and the hotel staff were very helpful in working with the airline to make sure the bag arrived before our departure to our next destination.) Warm greeting and shown to our room. The set-up is quite nice, with a clean and inviting pool and ample space to sit by it. The room itself was not quite as nice as we would have expected; at this price point, it's fairly expensive by Cambodian standards. It wasn't bad, just a few details that could have used more attention, the wooden furniture had dark greasy marks on arm rests and knobs.

Most meals were included in our tour; this made things easy and the food at the hotel was quite good, if a bit inconsistent (like soup that was not hot). Dinner was not provided but this gave us the chance to go into town and try some other restaurants. The hotel provides complimentary transport in a motorcycle-drawn buggy; this was a fun and easy way to get to and from town. We had to wait on a couple of occasions before leaving the hotel while the buggy was being used by other guests, but it was only a short wait, 15-20 minutes tops (one time the staff told us 45 minutes! We certainly were happy when it came sooner).

Staff invariably made a lot of effort to do a good job and speak English. This reflects upon the aspect of Journeys Within that would make it our top recommendation to friends: the owners (Andrea and Brandon Ross, from the USA) have done an amazing job of creating a community-based organization that is doing very good work, such as training staff to run their hotel (and thus prepare them for future careers in hospitality/tourism). They run a surprising number of community programs that seem very effective and realistic in their goals. We didn't meet Andrea, but we did have a nice conversation with Brandon and were sincerely impressed with the commitment they have made to Cambodia. It is not an easy environment in which to operate and they run an admirable organization that clearly does a lot of good work.

But the real shining gem of Journeys Within is the tours. Without a doubt, it was an outstanding tour experience. The details were handled smoothly, such as arranging our passes for the Angkor complex: there was just a quick stop to get photos taken and pick them up; payment was handled by the tour guide. The itinerary was also flexible, given our preferences, and we stopped at some sites where very few other tourists went but were absolutely worthwhile. Our guide (Mr. Senthep) was so enthusiastic, so sincere, so knowledgeable, and so willing to share an abundance of information about his country and culture. There is no way we could have learned as much as we did if we had stuck to the guidebooks. We did not meet any other guides, but we got the impression that Journeys Within has high standards and provides a lot of training and feedback to guides. Our driver (whose name we have unfortunately forgotten) was also very good: he drove safely and comfortably, and was always ready with bottled water and cold towels when we returned to the car from sites. Both Mr. Senthep and the driver were outstanding hosts during our visit to Cambodia and we will long remember their efforts to ensure we had an amazing time.

If we return to Cambodia, and it's likely we will at some point because there is more to explore in this country that we didn't have time to see, Journeys Within will be our top choice.

The Journeys Within Guesthouse felt like our home in Cambodia. Our room was absolutely lovely - tastefully appointed in classic Khmer style, comfortable, immaculate and spacious. We had a private patio and were steps away from a gorgeous salt-water pool. Breakfasts and lunches were excellent. The staff made the experience something that we will always remember. They were friendly and helpful. When we left (with some sadness in our hearts), we felt as if we were leaving friends whom we had known for years - and not a mere 5 days. When we return to Cambodia one day, we will stay again at the Journeys Within Guesthouse. There are many choices of accommodation in Siem Reap - but having stayed at Journeys Within, we feel certain that we stayed in the best place of all.

We also booked our land travel with the Journeys Within organization, working directly with Andrea Ross, a co-founder/owner. They were, in a word, "fabulous." We loved the hotel they chose for us in Phnom Penh, their tour guides and drivers were superb, and their recommendations on things to see were spot-on. Wonderful trip, wonderful places, wonderful people!

Room Tip: From what we could see, all of the rooms are of the same high caliber.
