“Best trip imaginable- ready to go back!”
Reviewed 15 August 2009

We had the good fortune to travel to Cambodia this summer. We traveled with our three kids- 12, 24 and 28, so we were looking to make this visit fun, meaningful and easy. April, Journeys Within U.S. travel consultant, helped us put together an itinerary that worked well for our whole family. She was a great listener, reassuring when I was anxious, and cared enough to follow our travel blog! Our hotel stays were all excellent, but I especially want to mention how meaningful our time was in Siem Reap with Brandon and the staff at Journeys Within. When you walk into JW, you really are entering a little paradise. The landscaping is lush, the bungalows are pristine and comfortable, without being stuffy. Our daughter loved this place. The days were packed with tours of temples, villages, volunteer activities (where we got to be speaking partners for English students) and our down time was spent swimming in the beautiful salt water pool, eating lovely meals and chatting with Brandon, who was very willing to address all of our questions. The guides and driver were amazing, too.

We also spent five nights in Phnom Penh and three nights in Sihanoukville, all incredible accommodations booked by Journeys Within.

We can't say enough good things about this company. We were very impressed with their ability to meet the needs of our whole family, which included me, my husband, our 12 year old daughter and our two adult sons. We will definitely be going back to Cambodia and we will definitely call on Journeys Within to help us!

What a great trip!! Andrea at Journeys Within made all our arrangements within Cambodia and did an excellent job of mixing "must see" temples with less visited and unique adventures to help us get a wonderful feel for the country and people. She also went out of her way to help make arrangements for special visits and interests we had. Everything flowed smoothly and I can't say enough good things about the choice of hotels, transportation, places of interest and especially the guides!! Of course, our favorite lodging was Journeys Within B&B in Siem Reap. The private bungalows are large, comfortable and furnished with everything one could want or need. The service was excellent, the food was very good, and the atmosphere and pool were amazingly relaxing. The perfect place to relax after a busy day touring the fascinating Angkor Wat temples. Thank you Andrea!! I can't wait to come visit again!

This is a great place to stay in Siem Reap. Every thing about it is clean and new and first class and the entire staff is extremely helpful. We booked our complete tour of SE Asia with Andrea at Journeys Within and the tour was fantastic.

The location of the B&B is a bit far from town and there did not appear to be anything within walking distance, but that makes it quiet. The front desk can arrange a Tuk Tuk for your trips to town.

A feature that we liked was the food and drink service available. Breakfast (excellent) is served on a covered patio and they have a lunch and dinner menu which is available. The food was very good and was a very nice option for the evenings when we were too tired to go out. Great food, cold beer, red wine and they even brought it to our room.

This is a great place to stay, and if you are travelling around SE Asia you should e-mail Andrea about her putting together a tour for you.

The Journeys Within B&B and Bungalows was beyond our expectations in charm, comfort, quiet, and the helpfulness of Andrea and Brandon (the proprietors) and everyone on the staff. Siem Reap was our first stop on a trip planned by Journeys Within and it was a wonderful start followed by outstanding planning, hotels, guides, drivers. I cannot comment on the value of the individual hotel since we paid for our tour in one fee, but overall, we felt that the cost of the tour including two-thirds of our meals, was a very good value. My husband and I made the trip with one friend.

We stayed at Journeys Within as part of a two-week visit to Vietnam and Cambodia. We were there for just two nights and can't wait to go back.

Andrea and Brandon (the owners) have clearly put a tremendous amount of thought into this lovely b&b. The rooms are comfortable and impeccably designed, with a local touch. Complimentary in-room drinks, air conditioning (and ceiling fans!) and pool-side bedrooms make for an inviting and restful environment. The grounds are wonderfully kept: an ever-expanding oasis that includes a small herb garden. The staff is friendly and helpful, paying attention to every little detail: from cooking up some delightful/AMAZING meals to leading world-class tours of the temples. JW is relaxing, hospitable and simply lovely.

I cannot say enough good things about Journeys Within (including their nonprofit JWOC http://www.journeyswithinourcommunity.org/). If you're going to Siem Reap, you must stay here. If you're up for seeing more of SE Asia, ask them to put together an entire tour for you. They know their stuff and will make sure that you have an absolutely amazing visit.

We returned to Cambodia the first of the year to shoot a short documentary on building wells . We were there two years ago, and since then, have put in 15 wells. It was our wish to return to do a small story on the people who have received them and to further understand what it means to provide clean water to the people of Cambodia who have lost so much during the years of Pol Pot. In preparing to return, I had the good fortune to cross paths with Andrea Ross and Journeys Within Our Community.

Although we did not meet until we arrived in Siem Reap, Andrea provided us with so much information, structure, and assistance in setting up our shooting schedule. She suggested that we film a well being put into a community while we were there, and she arranged for everything to be in place when we arrived at the village. There were so many details that Andrea seamlessly put into place for us, it is hard to share them all.. She supported us from the moment we arrived until our departure. Her knowledge of SE Asia is wise and knowledgeable beyond her years.

We also had the luxury of staying at the B/B: Journeys Within. From the minute we arrived until our departure, we felt so welcomed. The staff is all part of the family that both Andrea and Brandon have created. Andrea and Brandon are so deeply committed to the people of Cambodia and bringing their passion for the country and the people to their guests who are so keenly interested in being a small part of that while in Cambodia. Their tireless energy and attention to detail is exceptional, we have truly left our hearts there. The quality of our experience was so enhanced by their warmth, knowledge, and energy. The non profit they have created is the quintessential example of an NGO that works and produces astonishing results. We were deeply touched by how much they have accomplished for the community.

Their bungalows, pool, and facilities are clean, well designed, and extremely warm and comfortable. The food is outstanding and the staff is eager to assist guests in every way they can. Although we were working everyday, it was a joy to return to our accomodations knowing how wonderful they were. We cannot wait to return as soon as possible. We stayed at JW for a total of 8 nights (barely enough time to REALLY see Siem Reap) and it was a fantastic experience! We were so well treated it felt like we were staying with family. The staff and owners were incredibly friendly and accommodating. When we arrived, we realized we'd forgotten a few items. A van appeared within minutes to whisk us off to some local shops to pick up what we needed. Also, though I know it's been said in previous reviews, we were spoiled with the free daily laundry service. We frequently take long vacations and find ourselves washing things in the sink and hanging them around the room to dry. From now on, every other place I stay will feel inferior!

Andrea put together our whole itinerary after I told her I was frustrated trying to plan it out myself. I just wasn't sure how many temples we could get to in a day, how much time each temple needed and how much time it would take to travel from one to another. She put together an amazing itinerary for a reasonable price and hooked us up with the BEST guide/driver combination one could hope for. I didn't realize they provided the same service in Laos or I would have asked her to put that together as well.

Our guide, Sina, was fantastic. He was always pointing things out along the way, willing to make unplanned stops and flexible with our plans. On top of being well informed about the temples we were visiting, he had a great sense of humor and took wonderful pictures of our family. When we left Sina, it felt like we were saying goodbye to a good friend. Lenn, whose english was also very good, was a great driver. He was cautious and quite adept at handling the chaotic streets of Siem Reap.

My only disappointment is that I didn't know the scarves left in the room were meant to be gifts until reading the previous review. I thought they were decorative and left them behind. I guess I'll have to return for my scarves!

  • Liked — Excellent Rooms, Excellent Service
  • Disliked — We're spoiled now! If comparable accomodations are available in the US or Europe, we can't afford them.
