“Rotten!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013 via mobile

Booked & paid for three Terrace rooms through Flight Centre - two connecting rooms & one twin room. We were a group of 4 adults & two young children.

Reception
No record of our reservation on arrival despite the email confirmation we had from the Casa Angkor reservation department confirming the three terrace rooms & listing reference numbers!!! We were asked to wait in the lobby whilst they "looked into the matter". After an hour in the very hot lobby the receptionist informed us that they had found three rooms for us but each room was on a separate floor!!!!! We insisted that they find us the interconnecting rooms that had been confirmed in their email. Away he went for another 20 minutes. No refreshment was offered at all until I asked for cool water! He finally returned to advise that interconnecting rooms 241 & 243 were available for us. Upstairs we went only to find that the rooms were next door to each other but not interconnecting. Back down to reception we went, more discussion and FINALLY they "found" interconnecting rooms 343 & 345! The third room was room 218 - windowless, despite our reservation being for a terrace room.

The rooms
Air-conditioning was very ineffective & noisy. Bed sheets felt like viscose so were very hot & sweaty. The covers were woollen blankets not duvets - so very hot & uncomfortable. Pillows were filled with lumpy foam.

Bathrooms
Whilst clean, they are in dire need of refurbishment. The tub, sink, toilet bowls & shower curtain were all very badly stained. Towels were threadbare and housekeeping would take away the used ones but, for some reason, not replace with fresh towels. We had to ring reception to get towels when we got back to the hotel each day! To top it all the smell of sewage wafted into the bathroom from the drains.

Breakfast
Good selection, but watch out if there's a group at the hotel as there wasn't much left.

Staff
In general we found them to be sullen and unfriendly. Even the managers didn't smile or greet us in passing which we found unusual compared to other places we have stayed at.

Swimming pool
The picture on the website is misleading - the pool is tiny - less than 10m in length.

In a nutshell, stay elsewhere if you can!

This is a typical South East Asian hotel. Lovely reception, polite staff, but the rooms are looking tired and ours had a bad odour when we arrived and was very dusty in places. It was booked through a tour company and for what we paid was ok value, but there is no excuse for dirty rooms. The location is good and to be fair is in a nice quiet location. Could be so much better though with a bit more care and attention.

We stayed 4 nights in 2 rooms. Room sizes were adequate and inexpensive. The bathrooms need refurbishing though. And we wanted our rooms cooler. And we wanted the mosquitoes out!!!
Pros: very centrally located -- a very short Tuk Tuk ride away to restaurants and Pub Street! And the nice lady at the desk allowed us to stay up to 5:00 p.m. in one of our rooms for free as we had a late flight home. That was really nice and hospitable!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony. Its more spacious.

Booked into this hotel again with Khiri Travel as usually travel independently. What a lovely surprise as it was so good. Within walking distance to the centre, with its many shops & eating places or otherwise handy tuk tuks if feeling lazy.
Our room was quite large with a view of the pool which was refreshing after the busy days & also cleaned several times when we were there. Staff were just great & helpful in all areas and the breakfasts were just wonderful with huge choices and attractive open surroundings, Really couldn't fault it and we were delighted. Would certainly stay there again...

This is a wonderful hotel to stay at. The rooms were spotless, food excellent and the staff truely outstanding. Add to this, a quiet location but within walking distance of the market, shops and an endless choice of places to eat then you have a good place to base yourself.

Stayed here 3 times now (2009, 2012, 2013). Booked our trip last year April, making a special request for room 201 which has a large private balcony. Upon arrival, our room was already occupied by other guests who refused to leave until their departure several days later. Therefore, we ended up staying in room 218, which is similar except that all employees and guests have right of passage to its balcony which provides access to the adjacent building. Just like a year ago when we first stayed in this room, the tired bathroom's ventilator still didn't work; it was replaced the same day after we insisted on a solution to this problem. Several days later, we moved to room 201, which we had originally booked. The decoration (wood & silk) that hangs over the headboard still hangs out of sink; considered fixing it myself but decided against it. Tired bathroom with lots of discolorations on the tiled floor and seams between the tiles on the walls; shower needs to be replaced; toilet works like it should. Free refills of water (for complimentary small bottles provided in the rooms) in the lobby has been discontinued. Restaurant serves decent dishes; however, I wish they would provide whole grain bread at the breakfast buffet. Lovely colonial-style building that needs a lick of paint all-over, bathrooms need refurbishment, rooms need some TLC and softer mattresses. Great location: quiet yet within easy walking distance of the downtown area. Staff is very friendly and helpful. To be honest, we're not sure we'll stay here again, as maintenance seems to have been reduced to the bare minimum.

Dear Marian,

Thank you for your loyalty.

I am truly agree with you with the hotel condition. As the new Managemen took over and we are in the plan to upgrade and facelift our cozy colonial hotel.

I hope, if you plan to visit us next year, please do check back again on our hotel websites for the progress in the future.

Stayed 3 nights. Very central but also quiet. Arrived very late and the restaurant was still open for service. Surprisingly delicious hamburger. Good breakfasts and the restaurant has a lovely openess which makes one feel relaxed. The only negative was that the swimming pool was dark green but the staff did not inform us not to use the pool, so we thought this was general Cambodia swimming pool styles. On the last day of our stay they fixed the pool and we realised that we had been swimming in a dirty pool. Rooms were good size and very clean. Staff were very helpful. Lots of mosquitos so make sure you always carry mosquito repellent. Do not attempt to wash any clothes especialy whites - the water leaves brown stains. Staff were very helpful at all times.
