I am usually a budget traveler and not fussy with accommodations. After all, what's the point of getting a nice hotel if you're outside most of the time? This time I decided to deviate. Bopha Angkor is in the mid-price range, great value considering the Khmer inspired ambience. It's located in a stretch of medium sized accommodations by the river, within five minute walk from the Old Market, Night Market and Pub Street so you don't miss the action, yet it provides an oasis of relief when you need a break from shopping, booze and temple hopping.

Admittedly, breakfast needs more variety (there are four breakfasts "plates" to choose from) but when we wanted more sausages or coffee, the staff are on hand to indulge. I don't know why so many people say there's no good coffee in Cambodia, I just love coffee in this place. And just next door is Climax Cafe if you need a place to wind down after an entire day of going around. And who can forget the in-house fish spa, $2 to $3 dollars outside but free anytime in the hotel?

There are several good things to say about this hotel. But if you'll take away something from this review, let it be this: the staff will go over and above to provide you what you need. Here's an example. Our flight leaves late evening and we requested for late check out which was granted. We also asked whether they could allow us to use the pool showers before our flight after doing some last minute cycling around the city, which they agreed to as well. When we returned from cycling, the staff told us that there's a vacant room we could actually use to shower and change instead of using the pool showers. It was a gesture we appreciated because we didn't ask for it yet they volunteered without hesitation. Just when we're about to leave, there was no tuktuk waiting outside to take us to the airport (there usually are a number of them milling around). The hotel staff mobilized to get one for us, not wasting anytime as we were running a little bit late.

We didn't really spend that much time hanging out in the hotel until the last day but the staff we encountered were courteous and so eager to share their beautiful culture, we somehow felt we got more than what we paid for. Definitely recommended, although, we wouldn't mind having the hotel to ourselves for our next visit.

Room Tip: Choose the one near to the pool or the fish spa.

We have traveled internationally for many years. This is the first time that we have felt compelled to write a review. The rooms were dark and dingy. The shower was situated so that the entire bathroom became wet when showering. The swimming pool has a pretty setting but the cloth lounge cushions were old, stained and smelled of smoke and sweat. However, the real issue was our bus booking through them. We paid for what we thought the Ginat Ibis but after waiting for nearly two hours for the shuttle to collect us, it didn't arrive (this happened two times!). We missed the departure for that bus but the hotel staff assured us that there was another bus they had booked for us that would be just the same other than no wi-fi. Ha, that was not at all the case...the bus was old, filthy, dusty, air-con problems and other issues. After contacting the hotel, we were told that they had charged us a booking fee (never heard of this before now and other hotels have not done that before) and that was why it cost us more than what the actual tickets cost. They charged us $15 dollars per ticket and the the actual cost was $7. So rather than $28, we paid $60 for the 4 of us without them ever saying there was any commission fee charged by the hotel. They told us that they could not credit our credit card with the difference in bus tickets! The staff was not upfront and honest about this...we felt like we were scammed.

My wife and I stayed here over the Christmas Holidays. We asked for an airport pick up and were promptly greeted at arrival by a pleasant driver who quickly took our bags placed them in the trunk and offered us cool towels and a water.

Check in went smooth and they arranged for the same driver to take us with a guide to the temples the following days. When we got to the room we were surprised by how tastefully Khmer it was. The ac worked well and the staff did our laundry cheaply and quickly. Our room was large and featured a couch as well as a comfortable chair. The room also had a safe which is important to us as we travel with an I Pad and lots of camera equipment.

The grounds are lovely and I suggest taking a few hours and lounging at the pool reading, relaxing and then stroll over to temple street (5 minute walk) for some really reasonable hawker food. we enjoyed the hotel breakfast and the restaurant is truly beautiful.

We stayed at the Bopha Angkor over New Year. The stay didn't get off to a great start when the car we had booked didn't turn up at the airport (get a cab anyway as they are cheaper at $7) and were then asked if we could move to another hotel on one night as they were full (we refused).

The room smelt and didn't feel clean and the bathroom was quite grim. The pool area and the gardens were however very pretty.

We only ate breakfast at the hotel which we thought was good. We also had a delicious fruit shake there buy were put off that a small amount we had spilt on the table remained there for more than 25 hours. Makes you wonder what state the kitchen must be in!

Also had a Khmer massage which itself was excellent but cannot recommend as I was eaten alive by mozzies. Am sure they could try and keep them away with burners or something?!

Overall distinctly average in comparison to everywhere else we have stayed and we would not return or recommend.

This place must have been wonderful back in the days (and it still is good), but it's a little worn down.
Staff at reception wasn't very efficient. We were told there were no rooms available when we went there in person but we were still able to book a room on internet for that night.
The rooms are big but the double bed is actually two single beds that have been placed next to one another.
Breakfast is mediocre. Portions are very small.
On the positive side, hotel is quiet, the pool is nice and there is a pond you can dip your feet in for a relaxing fish massage (weird at first but nice after a while).
All in all an ok place to stay, but overpriced when you compare to other hotels in Phnom Penh. There are better places to stay at.

Room Tip: If you can, try staying somewhere else.
