“Bring You Back to the Past”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Magical feeling you get when you think of the elephant fighting matches that were held hundreds of years ago at this very spot!

“Angkor - Terrace of the Elephants - Super long run of carved elephants”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

As you move north through Angkor Thom past the Baphuon Temple you come across an open grassed area. All along the western side is a wall with a run of carved elephants, the terrace. This is quite amazing how each appears slightly different yet the terrace runs for quite some distance. Every now and then there are carvings containing the heads and trunks which protrude out of the wall and at one point these carvings guard a staircase which presently just goes up to a higher level, with a further display of carved elephants in threes, and was probably the gateway to other smaller temples in days gone by. It's a great sight to see and one which is both admired up close and also as far back as you can get to see the continuous run. You can't miss this as most people move south to north through the Angkor Thom complex and as such you will pass right by.

“Nothing too special (by Angkor standards)”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Perhaps I saw too many temples before the Terrace of the Elephants but I did not think it was too special. There were indeed many carvings of elephants and the view from the top of the terrace was ok but a bit if an anti-climax, especially after seeing The carvings of Banteay Samre.

It's ok as a brief stop on the way to somewhere else but I would not say that it merits a special slot in one's schedule if one is pressed for time.

“Wonderful carvings”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

This is a must see in the Angkor Wat complex. The skill and craftsmanship that went into the elephants by the ancient carvers I'd just wonderful. It doesn't take long to look at but again is well worth the stop.

“Good to see as a set, together with Angkor Tom”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

I gave this 4 stars, while the Leper King I gave only 3. This is because seeing this, it already looked ordinary compared to all the temples, but the elephants carvings and statues look more obvious than those here at the Leper King. Somehow, Leper King loses out being at the tail end of this set. At least we sat at the top of the elephant statues at a staircase as a photo op.
