“Excellent hotel room & meeting room”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

Just return from Siem Reap from a two days seminar held at Sokha hotel, the hotel room is clean, meeting room is big with high ceiling all the staff are friendly and provide you all assistance you needed, the food is fantastic from coffee breaks to international buffet lunch, get the chance to taste the Japanese in one evening, and find it the best Japanese food I ever had and the price is reasonable and the are professional.

Room Tip: Pool view is the best with view to the cascading waterfall.

This is an expensive hotel compared to lower grade hotels in siem reap but is value for money when you consider that others in same price range are often just a nicer facade but rooms and food quality not as good and are often further out on the road to airport. For me the hotel has the following things going for it. Location: at top end of the street which goes down to pub st. It is possible to walk and look at the shops if you don't want a tub yuk. Food breakfast was included in our package and it was excellent buffet. Asan food, western food, cold cuts fruit etc including kimchi as many Koreans visit siem reap. The coffee shop does good hamburgers and chips. If you want a snack share one. Likewise the fish and chips can also be shared as you get five small fish bits like Findus or aust birds eye fish pieces. The swimming pool is excellent. At least 15 metres long and good width maybe a bit more where you can do laps without running into other people. Pool water was good quality as well. However the hotel could do with a few more pool chairs and more umbrellas. Staff are good apart from one obsequious reception man who pushed the woman serving us out of the way to assist. I really dislike these types who then take you up to your room and waste time and annoy mr by showing me the fridge television bathroom etc. I have stayed in hotels before and know what a fridge is etc......and then stand there expecting a tip! What was worse we had only changed a small amount into riel and he then told us that our tip was not enough because the exchange rate was 4000 riel to dollar. I was livid.
Apart from that during the day, traditional music is played in the coffee shop, which is pleasant.
Our room was very spacious. The bed was ultra big, and comfortable, mattress was a tad hard but the is common from my travels elsewhere. Not so hard you can't sleep but pillows very comfortable.
Bathroom had a bath as well as shower and pull out drying line for washing. Good range of tv channels due to international visitors allows you to keep up to date. International and local papers in coffee shop. Souvenir shop had good stock although I did not buy anything.
We received a free 15 minute foot and leg massage which was welcome and good. I realty enjoyed our stay here and will come back again for short vacation to further explore Angkor temples.

Spent two days and one night at Sokha Angkor after a grueling 6-day conference in BKK and yet a fabulous stay at the Anantara Riverside (see separate review). Booked this hotel after canceling a tour of Angkor with a private company - figured that the 5-star hotel on their list would do just as good a job in finding a tour guide, plus they didn't demand cash up front. Arrived at the airport in Siem Reap and the driver from the hotel wasn't there. Had to call and verify that he was on his way - not exactly super professional but everyone can make a mistake. Arrived at the hotel and its casually elegant lobby. Got there early and the room wasn't ready, so l headed out with the tour guide to see the fab ruins. Got back all sweaty and bedraggled and checked in. While nice and large with high ceilings, the room (#239, deluxe with city view, meaning no view at all) was not 5-star in the least - a solid 4 would be more like it. Half the outlets didn't work, the bath tub was slightly stained and the general atmosphere was something like a Cantonese luxury hotel during the 1980s. The common areas were very pretty and elegant but the window inside the room was small and something was lacking - pretty pictures on the wall maybe?

Couldn't open the window due to ever-present mosquito threat and surely l was visited by one overnight. This is typical in SE Asia so l took it in stride. But the pool area is lovely, although not very plush with landscaping. There is a fake Angkor waterfall and l guess if you have kids, they might like it. The gym is very small but serviceable. The spa is probably the least appealing area of the hotel - small, very dark and damp, with zero good lighting for makeup or fixing one's hair. The hot and cold dipping pools (more like whirlpool sized) are in the same room as the lockers; everything is very cramped, dark and quite frankly a bit low class - my ladies gym locker in LA looks a lot better and that's already nothing special.

Food at the hotel was also very uneven; breakfast was terrible, with "fresh pineapple juice" anything but. Everything tasted "chemical," full of MSG, salt, sugar and grease. Fresh fruit was not even papaya and the bananas weren't very ripe. I tasted the rice porridge but it was inedible from excess salt. The bread was worse than Wonderbread, so you get the picture. And yet dinner was stellar; had Khmer food all the way in the lovely bar area - amazing. In fact, l liked it so much that I ordered the same exact dishes for lunch the next day, and they weren't nearly as well prepared - go figure. So even there, YMMV.

Other than that, service staff are sweet and really try to please. I was overcharged for the guide and vehicle on the first day; l complained, and then was undercharged for transport back to the airport. Pointed this out as well, since the person responsible ends up paying for his or her mistake. The shop on the premises has some nice gift items and the staff there is also very kind.

Clearly, Cambodia is still healing from its war torn past; l suspect that hotel standards will rise to those of Bangkok soon enough. Choose this hotel if you are willing to overlook some flaws and inconsistencies - if not, stay elsewhere in Siem Reap.

Central location with markets within 10mins walking distance. Spa sessions professional & reasonably priced. Enjoyed Takezono best which offered delicious bento sets & good selection of ala carte choices. I liked the sashimi best as it was very fresh & not expensive. Will return again when I visit Siem Reap again.

Stayed at this hotel 6 years ago it is still an outstanding hotel mainly because of the staff. They all seem happy to serve you (unlike Sokha Sihanoukville)We stayed in a club room worth the extra. Hotel is extremely well situated with pub street only a 5 minute stroll away. If it is your first trip to Cambodia i would highly recommended this as a choice of hotel if you want to go to Angkor Wat. No negatives for this hotel but it is a shame i can not say the same for Sokha Sihanoukville.

Pro's:
- extremely helpful and kind staff!
- unique atmosphere; lovely decorations in both interior and exterior
- fantastic breakfast selection and quality
- driver of tuk tuk nr. S23 :)
- location close to city center
- salt water pool

Con's:
- staff english skills
- too chilly in public areas (lobby, restaurants)
- poor noise insulation in the room (could hear other guests and staff from the corridor and next-door); light sleepers will suffer

I have a great stay in Sokha Angkor Resort!
***Check in procedure: quick and professional
***Room: spacious with really comfortable king bed, I could sleep very well after long trip in Angkor Wat. Free wifi with high speed satisfied me as well.
***Buffet breakfast: various and huge buffet (I do love the cakes there). The chefs there were so friendly, staff always smile and they are always ready to serve you.
***Services: just asked them for the ironer and they sent to my room immediately! all the staff are friendly and willing to help you any times, from the front desk, concierge to the doorman...
***Location: only 10 minute walking to pub street!
I would recommend this to all my friends going to Siemreap, either for business or travelling! : )
