“Sokha Angkor - An Excellant Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2010

We visited Siem Reap for 5 days (from the 13th to 17th Feb'2010) and our stay at the Sokha was very satisfying.

We had booked online & called the Hotel in advance to request for an early check-in (at 10am). Not only did they agree, but upon arrival, we were checked-in in flat 10 minutes.

The service throughout was superb - always with a smile.
The Rooms are big, Clean and tastefully done up.

The Hotel is very well located - just 15 minutes from the Airport and barely 5 minutes (by the ubiquitous 'Tuk-Tuk') to the main city center (the Old Market & Night market).

The Buffet Breakfast has a fairly large spread, and the menu does change everyday
We didn't get to eat at their other restaurants - but they do have a large no. of options.

All in all, an excellant hotel - definitely value for money..

We had an excellent stay at this hotel, it is ideally situated to visit the temples and also to walk around Siem Reap. It is a lovely peaceful place to return to after a long days sightseeing. We had dinner at the hotel and the food and service were excellent. The temples at Angkor are amazing and the Tonle Sap lake is well worth a visit, very interesting. We had not arranged any transport beforehand and picked up a taxi at the airport and we then hired him for our stay. He was excellent, spoke very good English and took us wherever we wanted, We can recommend him, his name is Savy,(email- [--] and phone no [--]).He also arranged a guidefor some of our time, his name is Sokha (email- [--] and phone no [--]). Both were really nice guys working hard to make a living and made our stay very enjoyable.

Stayed here for 3 nights end of Jan must say I was impressed by the hotel & the staff hotel first the fittings in the room are all top quality nice size bed a firm but OK and the bathroom was nice but they should shoot the person who picked the actual shower head.
The staff were excellent couldn't do enough for you like most top hotels everything in dollars and that's a reason to overcharge a coke was more expensive than a beer!
The situation is great about 5/10 minutes walk to the main downtown pubs & dining area or about 2 minutes in a Tuk Tuk for $2 for 2 of us.
Overall if you are doing Angkor Wat a great place to stay convenient for everything nice staff.

We stayed 4 nights in an executive 2 bedroom suite which was absolutely magnificent. We had 3 adult children with us and the Sohka accommodated us despite the fact that the suite comprised of only two king beds providing us with a rollaway in the loungeroom. The breakfast was superb and the staff unfaltering in their attention and grace. There was free internet in the lobby and the food in the lounge was good value for hungry young men! The hotel is located within walking distance to everything required and there was a laundry across the road that provided a great service at $2 usd per kilo. (the hotels never want to divulge the laundry places because they want you to use the hotel service which is always ridiculously priced especially when travelling with a large family) Sohka was luxury and indulgence and we wished we had spent more time in the hotel than sightseeing!

This was my fourth time staying at Sokha over 18 months, and high time to submit a review. This time we were a group of five golfers, three of whom also visited the temples. The hotel's location is perfect for both activities, and of course is also only 10 or 15 minutes from the airport. The rooms were excellent, tastefully decorated, good beds and entertainiment systems, bathroom was spotlessly clean and fresh, and we had a nice pool view. The pool itself is huge with two impressive waterfall features - it is a salt water pool and so much more pleasant than chlorine.
Breakfast starts at 6am so you can have an early breakfast and get to the temples ahead of the crowds. Also, you can buy your pass (1,3 or 7 day) at the hotel in minutes and so save time and queues when you arrive, After a long day at the temples or the golf course, there is nothing quite like soaking in the nice big hot bath to soothe aching muscles.
Probably the best aspect of the stay was the service we received from the staff. Without exception they were courteous, helpful and friendly - clearly a happy lot. One of our party felt a little ill and we were immediately offered the services of a doctor or a nurse (thankfully not needed). They arranged a wonderful, reasonably-priced temple guide for us called Try (pronounced 'Tree') - he has fluent English (among his other languages), and is the most knowledgeable of any we have had - get him if you can.
The Angkor Golf Resort is a 10 minute drive away - championship course designed by Nick Faldo - and it is a wonderful course. Talk to Adam, the personable Scotsman in charge, for a tee time.
At night the plentiful pubs and restaurants of Pub Street are only a short tuk-tuk ride away (try the Khmer Family Soup restaurant - excellent choice Khmer cuisine at reasonable prices. When we returned to the hotel for a nightcap the Blarney Stone Irish Pub was in full swing - we found the music good, but a tad too loud.
I had room service dinner one night (lamb chops on a bed of garlick potatoes) and it was excellent.
All in all we had a super short break at Sokha and, based on that and our earlier stays, we can heartily recommend it for all.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of December, after being in Vietnam for 10 days, as a base to explore Angkor Wot Park.
The staff very quickly dealt with my concerns about the room we were given (239) as I feared it was going to be noisy, as it overlooked what looked like a staff parking/delivery area near a gate - and upgraded us to a room (202) overlooking the swimming pool.
The bed - matress, duvet and pillows- was wonderful, the bathroom good ( bath and shower). Ok, we had a small gheko in the room, seen only once as hiding behind the curtain pelmet but decided not to mention him to the desk as he was potentailly useful at removing any insects that got in !
The breakfast was excellent. We ate in at the hotel 2 evenings as our daytime tours included a 3 course meal and we felt unable to do justice to a big meal out in Seim Reap. The hotel's big resturant was closed all 3 nights we were there( everybody seems to head into town to eat a there are lots of resturants with very good food) but the smaller one was open- and fine.
The hotel is very well postioned- close to the town shops and resturants and to the temples' park- but not in a noisy spot. It's modern and big, but not like some of the vast, brash monsters on the outskirts of the town.
The salt water pool was really nice and all the staff very friendly and helpful.
