“Greener than Before”
Reviewed 21 April 2009

The last time I stayed here was 2007...last April of this year I stayed in the same place...I noticed the lush greenery, much greener than before.....I feel like I'm at home in the Phlippines with a friendly staff, refreshing pool, cozy room, walking distance to the Phsar Chas and Lucy the cat who could still recognize me and stayed on my lap most of the time I was there.....Next time I visit Siem Reap it would still be Green Village Palace

The Green Village Palace is a perfectly nice and adequate place to stay while in Siem Reap for touring the local temples, etc.

I stayed for 2 nights in late February and found the accommodations to be clean and the staff helpful. To be sure, this is a guesthouse. The room was clean with a bed, television, air conditioner and refrigerator. The bathroom was modern and clean. The one oddity was that the bath had 2 showers, one at each end of the tub. One was attached to the main faucet providing only cold water and the other was attached to a water heater on the wall providing only hot water. how to mix the two remain a mystery but the cold water wasn't at all cold so not a problem for the adventurous traveler.

The hotel arranged an airport pick-up and tuk-tuk driver for our tour of the temples. It's an easy 2-5 minute walk to the central entertainment area of Siem Reap so very convenient.

The pool and garden area was lovely and a great place to relax before venturing out.

For a 2-night stay for the express purpose of visiting the temples of Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat, the Green Village was an excellent choice. If you are looking to stay longer and really use your hotel's facilities, you may want to think about some place more luxurious like the FCC or Viroth's or any of the larger hotels.

This place gets good reviews, and thus we chose to stay here. But, be forwarned to lock-up your valuables at all times. We took a quick dip in the pool, and while we were out of our room someone stole a 1000 baht note and US$20 bill (roughly, US$50 total). When we noticed the bills missing from my wallet, we informed the staff but they showed little shock or concern. They told us we must have spent it elsewhere, but we are traveling for a very long time and keep a ledger of our expenses. Before we headed to the pool we reconciled our ledger, and thus we are absolutely positive the money was stolen while we were poolside.

We find it quite telling that this particular thief was clever enough not to steal all of our money, he only took 2 bills. If we were on any other trip, we might not notice those bills missing. If it's happened once here, you can bet it's probably happened before. Keep your valuables locked up.

Finally, we found the lack of concern by the staff unnerving. After the robbery, they treated us with cold indifference.

Myself and my partner stayed at this guesthouse Oct 2008 . We booked for 5 nights , and received an additional night free, so make sure you avail of this offer , the rate we paid was $25 per night , but over 6 nights workek out at $20 ( breakfast included). WE thoroughly enjoyed ou stay here. The staff were great fun , allways smiling and joking , and could not do enough for us .
The guest house itslef is about a 5 minute walk to the central market & pub street , or $1 in a tuk tuk , a perfect loctaion . They serve very good food , and the restaurant / dining area is set in a beautiful mature garden with a swimming pool , which is essentail after the long day trekking Angkor Wat !
The room were very large , and like the rest of the hotel was spotelss throughout . There is also a gymnasium , which is free .

The highlight for us here was the staff, epsecially Mr Tom who was the perfect host .

We were in Phnom Pehn when we researched via the Internet for a place to stay in Siem Reap. Both my wife and I are not at our "first age" although we tend to be intrepid enough in our travelling habits. While photos and travellers' comments are of course of good help, sometimes the range of comments, from totally negative to totally exceptional, can be really bewildering.

So no matter what the photos show or what the comments are the response that comes back to an enquiry counts a lot. The friendliest the better. This time the friendliest response we got , coupled with a good deal, was from Somaly, the newly-wed Manageress of the Green Village Palace.

The reality was even better than the hotel's website or Somaly's email!
The hotel setting was green, quiet and literally 5 mins to the old market; and Somaly with her husband Tira, showed us some lovely, homely hospitality.
This young hard working couple really made our stay in Siem Reap something SPECIAL.

This is not an expensive, 5-star, establishment.
It is clean though, the garden is green, the swimming pool crystal clear, armchairs and tables in the shade, the personnel eager and friendly to make you welcome and your stay as relaxed as possible.
It is true it does not have internet (at the time of our visit). But if you want to spend hours on end on the Internet then there are many very cheap internet cafes/centres by the old market.

We shall never forget the 6 days we stayed at their hotel. True to their brochure they did stand by their word: Stay 5 nights and get one extra for free!

Worthwhile giving it a go, however sceptical you may be. We do recommend it, whole-heartedly!!

We stayed here for 3 nights. The guesthouse is in a quiet neighbourhood but only a 5 minute walk to the old market. The room was 100% clean and quite big. The staff was always helpfull and friendly. Breakfast could have been better, but, hey, it was free.
Sitting in the pool with a cold beer is just perfect after a day of Angkor. We would definitely stay here again!

On our arrival, the outside of the guesthouse appeared pleasant and we thought we would have an enjoyable 4 night stay. Oh dear..

The reception area was charmless and the room we were shown to was a reasonable size but in need of some work. Someone had tried to do some paint repairs - but rather than repaint the whole room, had just used a different paint colour as a 'patch job'.

OK, we could live with that - but the bathroom was mouldy, the shower leaked and bizarrely the floor was covered in dead mosquitos. On seeing that, I asked to move to another room but was told they were full.

We have stayed in worse places on our travels, so though we would stay for a night rather than trying to find somewhere else to stay so late in the day.

Again another mistake, as we'd been given the room where the a/c was broken and could not be turned off. Unfortunately it had also been set to artic chill on a high fan - so we ended up sleeping with our jumpers on. (We had read about the same problem at this guesthouse on another review site - but stupidly we still booked here).

We checked out the next morning and the staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful. Annoyingly they would not honour the deposit that we had paid on the booking website and no matter how reasonably we made our case - they would not budge. Seeing no other way round it - we had to pay double.

A very frustrating experience and I would not recommend this guethouse to anyone. We ended up staying at the WatsUp guesthouse which is at the end of the same road - a great place with lovely rooftop area with genuinely friendly staff and simple but clean rooms.
