“Quite nice, but yes, perhaps a little overrated.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2009

We stayed at the Palm Village resort over the New Years Holiday, staying for 2 nights. It's quite far from the city center, but I think in Siem Reap, this was more a plus than a minus. The back road getting there is bumpy, but as far as I could tell, it's one of the closest hotels to Angkor (wat, etc...) We borrowed books for $3 each and rode there to watch the sun come up. It took about 20 minutes by bike.
The pool was almost too cold, but the food served at the hotel is quite good. The staff was mostly polite, and we really didn't have any problems.
The bungalows were cozy, but the shower pressure was ridiculous, to the point that if you wanted actual warm water, you had to settle for a trickle.
The bed was comfy, and everything was not bad over all.

  • Liked — Yummy dinner.
  • Disliked — Pool was cold, shower pressure way too low.

The Palm Village Resort outside of Siem Reap is a fantastic place to stay when visiting. The hotel is located a bit outside of town but the town of Siem Reap is easily accessed by tuk tuk or cab arranged by the always helpful front desk staff. The accommodations consist of wooden cabins arranged along a beautiful foot path. Beds are comfortable, TV's have satellite. Everything in the Palm Village is immaculate. There is a beautiful pool and massages are available poolside. Food is delightful, make sure to try the Khmer food.

The staff is very kind and helpful and able to arrange any number of site seeing trips at very reasonable prices. We were able to arrange an evening cruise to the floating villages on the Tonle Sap Lake and a guide for our one day trip to Angkor Wat and were really pleased with both. Pick up from the airport was on time even though our flight was early.

I would recommend the Palm Village to anyone who is in the area. It's a great place to stay and I hope we are able to return.

  • Liked — The beautiful setting and friendly staff.
  • Disliked — It is outside of town so eating is restricted to the hotel.

We enjoyed the peace and calm at Palm Village. The bungalows were comfortable and clean and surrounded by trees and flowers. The complimentary breakfast was very good and the table was very pretty with a fresh flower at each place setting. The staff were helpful and friendly. It is situated a little ways out of town but tuk tuks were always available. Palm Village was a tranquil retreat after hot days of touring temples.

We have just had four nights at Palm Village, Siem Reap. It is a safe, clean and quiet property a short distance (10 min by car or tuk-tuk) from town - but very close to Angkor Wat and other temple sites.

With around 15 detached bungalows (with an air-conditioned living-bedroom and clean western bathroom attached in each), it is quite small, but that is part of its charm and serenity. With most people out touring during the day, it can feel like you have the whole place to yourself. The pool is clean and surrounded by mature and shady trees. The open dining area is very pleasant for eating, drinking, using the computer and chatting with fellow travellers. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

It is certainly not a luxury accommodation hotel, but it does have a comfortable, secure and relaxed rustic charm about the resort.

We had prior booked a room with 2 singles and a double bed for our 2 adults and 2 children. There was a mix-up with this and we had to squeeze another bed in with two other singles for our first two nights (at $50 US). We were then to move to their larger and cheaper ($40) "fan house" on stilts (the one room there with no-aircon), but on arrival the toilet did not work and they moved us to another air-con bungalow - but were a little annoyed they still charged us the higher price for these nights.

Apart from these room hassles, we enjoyed our stay. Four nights in Siem Reap is perhaps too much for a family, and most people we chatted to around the dining table agreed that 2-3 days in Siem Reap would be enough for the average tourist.

An airport transfer is included in the price at Palm Village - so very good value with breakfast included and a peasant relaxed change from the hotel-style accommodation we had in other parts of Asia.

  • Liked — Ambience and quiet atmosphere. Friendly staff and fellow guests.
  • Disliked — Hassles with our booked room.

I stayed here with a friend in November and absolutely loved it.
Yes, its a little rustic, yes it could use a little maintenance, yes its a little out of town but... its $39 a night! Be reasonable people.

After reading some of these reviews it seems people want 5 star service from 3 star hotel. Someone complained that the receptionist didn't greet them with a broad smile and demanded their passport. Not everyone is a supplicant. Maybe she was having an off day, or maybe the reviewers attitude was off, who knows but I found everyone here more than friendly and willing to help. Nothing was too much trouble.

The pool is great, so you cant do laps in it, but its plenty big enough for a cool soak.
The Restaurant food is fairly basic but very nice and very cheap. We went into town most nights for dinner, it costs $3.for a tuk tuk

We were here at the end of the rainy season so the roads were sometimes a quagmire but that's half the fun. Its all part of the adventure. Its bumpy and slippery but if I wanted 5 star luxury I would have stayed at home.

I would have no hesitation staying here again. Its quiet and peaceful after a day out at the temples.

We choosed Palm Village for nearly one week concerning the mostly very good Tripadvisor Reviews and because it's one of the rare Boutique Hotels in Siem Reap. Still convinced that Palm Village is definitely one of the better options in 'comission city', but overall standing is to high. After several booking requests via phone and email without confirmation happily we were picked up at the airport (they charge you later for drop off). Instead of a smiling reception the older female owner/manager welcomed us only with the word 'Passport' . Nevertheless Bungalows and especially the gardens are very nice, pool is perfect for relaxing but to small for swimming. As an other member has written before some things there need refurbishment. Try to get a poolside accommodation, they offer much more privacy and a bigger bathroom than the other ones. Room itself was clean, equipped with fridge, fan and aircon, which is unfortunately placed directly over bed-head. Breakfast is very good, dinner options are ok. Palm Village's is located just a 15 Min. ride with Tuk-Tuk to downtown, with the hotel-committed drivers for 3$, otherwise for 2$. Location itself is better as anywhere closer to Siem Reap, but don't except any 'naturally tranquil' village or surroundings as promoted on Hotel website.

We arrived at the Palm Village Resort with 2 friends having reserved ahead. We knew that we would have to have a fan room for one night and then swap to air con for the 2nd two nights, whilst we let our friends take the air con for 3 nights. This was not a problem to us - that is until we saw the fan room....it was only $10 cheaper than the air con room and that was a total joke - i wouldn't have paid $10 for the fan room!!!! The fan room was a little too rustic for our liking...could have been the huge gappy floorboards....or the fact there was no glass in the window frames - just mosi netting...or the dust from the building work underneath....
So we said no thanks. Luckily they had an air con for that night so we moved into our new home. The air con rooms were a world apart......so nice....
My advice would be - stay here but say no to the fan room.
The hotel is quite far out of town, a little further than we had anticipated to be honest so we just got a tuk tuk into town for dinner each night. It was well located for the temples and after all that is why we had gone to Siem Reap.
Breakfast - they could do with a lesson in multi tasking- boiled egg arrives. 5 mins later the bread might arrive. 5 mins after that the coffee arrives, you then ask for milk and if you are lucky 5 mins after that it arrives!!! Not a criticism - just a fact....it had us laughing every morning.
The pool and pool area was lovely and it was nice and quiet and relaxing.
we had booked bus tickets back to Phnom Penh and we waited for our minivan to pick us up for the 8.30 bus but the minivan "forgot" us and we missed the bus. The hotel (who were not responsible for any of this) sorted it out - making phone calls and making sure we got picked up and on the next bus.

  • Liked — nice and peaceful
