We decided to try a new guesthouse on this trip-and so happy we did! Tanei was great-close to Pub Street and the Night Market, nice rooms (if you stay in the new building), nice swimming pool, and cozy covered gathering area with fans for a beer and a chat. A family runs it so expect little ones to be around-which we found just added to the charm.

Room Tip: Stay in the new building!

This is a FABULOUS hotel and well worth the $16 for our room ( we opted for no breakfast ) The hotel owner, his family and staff are very friendly and welcoming!
The rooms are gorgeous ( we stayed behind reception ) and you get fresh towels and toilettries everyday. The only downside I can think of is that our bedding wasn't changed during our stay and we stayed 11 nights but planned to be there for only 7 nights infact most guests stayed on a lot longer at the hotel than originally planned but that shows how great this hotel really is! The pool is lovely and so is the jacuzzi. You have towels provided for you to sit by the pool and enjoy the sunshine. The hotel also allows you to borrow free of charge a dvd player for your room and also a kettle! There are two free computers to use in reception and a wide choice of great food on the menu. Even better we found out about all the hard work the owner puts into helping a local orphanage and if you are interested in visiting the lovely children the owner will let his tuk tuk driver take you there free of charge. It is a great place and the children are beautiful - definately the highlight of our trip in Cambodia! A great tip is to take some toys or books for the children if you can afford it in your budget!
This hotel gets 10 out of 10 from me and if you are heading over to Siem Reap then go straight over to the Tanei Guesthouse - You won't regret it!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a lovely room behind reception!

We did have a great time at this guest house. We were picked up for free from the bus station by our tuk tuk driver (Mr Soktha). We extended our stay as we liked it so much and there was so much to do in Siem Reap. They had given us details on excursions prior to our arrival which was handy. Channa was especially helpful and informative. We were able to tailor the itineraries according to what suited us best. Mr Soktha remained our tuk tuk driver. He was courteous and helpful. The best thing was he had a cool box containing ice, free bottled water and freshen up towels. He spoke a little english which helped. We decided not to get a tour guide as we had obtained enough information from various sources. We decided to go for the 3 day ticket to see the temples which was enough for us. Mr Soktha was good value for money as he would stop whenever you asked him to without any trouble. We did the Roulous group one morning and as we finished earlier than expected he took us to the Kompong Phluk for free as it was close by. There was no need for us to get on a moto as the roads were now good enough for him took us straight to the river by tuk tuk. He arranged for us to be taken by boat to the floating village and the floating forest for only $15 each without having to pay any departure fees to a private company. At the end of our stay Channa arranged bus tickets to go to Sihanoukville with Paramount Angkor express which was fine, although it was over a 10 hour journey via Phnom Penh. Overall our stay in Siem Reap was made extra special because we stayed at this friendly guesthouse. The staff were exceptionally nice and helpful and did everything they could to make us feel welcome.

This little guesthouse is just great! It is situated a 5 minute walk from the alley and pub street and close to the old and night markets, close enough to the action but far away enough to get a good night's sleep. The room was clean, bed comfortable and airconditioning effective, the decor was also very nice. The staff and management are fantastic, I highly recommend using the in-house tuktuk drivers for tours around the temples, they are honest, knoweldgeable and reliable. The food was good too. Two things made this guesthouse really special, first of all, there is a small pool that is perfect for unwinding in after a long day at the temples and the second is that the family who owns the guesthouse are very supportive of a local orphanage. The orphanage is close by and they will arrange free transport to and from if you would like to visit, I would highly recommend it, visiting the children was probably the best day of my trip to Siem Reap and they are an honest and well run organistaion so you know that donations of cash go to the right place, they also need clothes, school equipment and toys. It was wonderful to stay at such a wonderful place and to realise that they were community minded as well. Forget 5 star hotels, this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: use the in-house tuk tuks, they are honest!

This hotel guesthouse is in an excellent location just a very short walk from the centre and both markets and where our bus dropped us off! We stayed here for nearly two weeks after only intending to stay just one week. The reception staff were always pleasant and welcoming, I haggled for their best price which was $16.00 per night without breakfast. The manager helped with my bags to the groundfloor room (I don't remember the number) behind the reception and stairs. This is the main building but I am aware of the newer building and upper rooms with views and balconys too. We had air conditioning, cable tv, free wifi, fridge, ceiling fan, shower wet room/toilet, wardrobe, 2 pairs of flip flops, clean towels, comfortable double bed in a good sized tiled floor bedroom which was cleaned daily and restocked. The hotel also has a beautiful swimming pool and jacuzzi and provided additional poolside towels on request and excellent bar/restaurant service of quality, value food and drink either on your sun lounger or chair by the pool or in the bar area. They had an indoor restaurant that we never used! The reception has two computers for free internet use (50cent or 2000real per page printed) in addition to the free wifi available in the rooms, we also discovered that they provide the use of a DVD player in your room on request. The bar area is outside and under a roof, a good size intimate area ideal for relaxing and meeting fellow travellers with various choices of seating in an 'L' shape around the bar. We were told by a Welsh chap that the hotel owner supports a local orphanage which we later discovered was two seperate village orphan schools and his hotel Tuk Tuk driver/s will take us to visit. The hotel owner pays for food for these children and his drivers built the classrooms in which they have learned basic English, we bought many balls to both schools and played in the fields between class' and felt it was a major high light of our trip thanks to the Tanei Guesthouse it's owner and the excellent staff. The hotel provide many other services such as a $15.00 per day Tuk Tuk driver who will take you to all the sites/temples of Ankor. They also sell bus tickets out of Siem Reap, we went to the Capital Phnom Penh and on to Sihanoukville, Kampot and Kep but wished we had stayed right where we were!

This fabulous hotel is an absolute must!!!! My boyfriend and I booked for 7 nights but extended to 11 nights and I wish we could of stayed much longer! The hotel owner is amazing and helps out at a local orphanage and he will ask one of his drivers to take you there to see the children ( ìf you want to) - which is an absolute joy ( if you go to the orphanage take presents with you like clothes, toys books etc if you can ). The staff are EXCELLENT and so ís the food and atmosphere! Ìf you go between March 2011 & May 2011 you will no doubt mêet Alan a tourist from Australia who is staying thểre for 5 months and will show you nice restaurants on Pub Street. Thís hotel ís also in a great location to all the main sights including the Night market! All in all I can't say enough about thís hotel but go and enjoy and don't be surprised ìf you stay thểre much longer than planned - it ís the BÉST!!!!!!!

As long term Cambodia residents we have stayed in a wide range of places. Tanei is a gem. Family friendly (big family room with 2 large singles and a double), clean, very helpful staff. The food in the restaurant is a cut above the average guesthouse with authentic khmer dishes at excellent prices, and the breakfast was fast with scrambled eggs that were among the best I have had yet here. The people that run this place really get it - you get excellent service, a clean and comfy place to stay with hot showers, and a pool. Recommended.
