“You can find better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

We stayed at Lotus Lodge for 4 nights. We had high expectations based on the reviews we had read. We were highly disappointed when we got our room. The room is basic and would benefit from some renovations. Our main issue was the AC which was barely able to cool down the room after being on for 7h+. The bed wasn't very comfortable. The mattress is only a semi-dense foam mattress which, with time, has created two valleys from previous sleepers where you always end up rolling back in. The sheets were stained. The bathroom was smelly, old, and somewhat dirty. The hot water worked good but the shower had no pressure. The wifi worked well on 1 of our 2 devices. Housekeeping will clean your room daily if you leave the key at reception, which we weren't informed of. The food was ok and prices were similar to what you'll pay in town (khmer food way better than western dishes). The hotel is located quite far from the city centre (5 minute tuktuk ride) down a small dirt road. It felt safe but there is no restaurant or store within walking distance. The hotel offers one free one way shuttle per day to the city centre which reduces the transportation cost. All tuktuk drivers will ask 3$ for the ride back but it should not be more than 2$. One the positive side, the staff is friendly and helpful. However, they aren't very flexible in the types of tours they offer to the temples and only book buses with a few companies (to Bangkok). We had an amazing tuktuk driver (Richard!) who drove use around the temples. In the end, there has to be something better for a similar price.

We booked in here after reading sparkling reviews of the Lotus Lodge, but were quite disappointed with our week long stay. You really do get what you pay for, and the £15 per night tariff is reflected in the quality of the place . Lets start positively - most of the staff were pleasant and attentive and the room , although very basic , was generally clean. Linen wasn't changed, but the beds were made up every day, and towels were changed frequently. The pool was refreshing in the oppressive heat, and the water seemed clean . Things go downhill from there . The hotel itself is at the end of a dirt road , through a small village , about 15 minutes tuk-tuk ride from the central area of Siem Reap . It's located within its own compound, complete with military style lookout tower ! I think the place has potential , but at the minute it just seems rather run down and tired , Our room was poorly decorated . Beds were hard , air conditioning barely worked , and the bathroom was very shabby , with broken tiles etc. Breakfast was a hit and miss affair , with not much choice . You could get an omelet sometimes , if someone turned up to cook one , and there was flies all over the food ! Cats wander freely around the dining area . The bar area is just ok . One night we ordered 2 cocktails , and they were served in coffee mugs after a 15 minute wait ! Staff seemed to use the area to hang out with friends , even while they were working. The pool is nice to swim in , but also looks very tired with lots of tiles missing, and rickety , dirty sun loungers . Quite often there was rubbish laying around from the day before ! We were quite ill for a few days with stomach problems , as were another couple who had to call a doctor at a cost of $500 ! Coincidence ? I'll try to finish positively with the fact that one of the tuk-tuk drivers was very helpful in taking us on a fantastic tour of the temples and floating village at a cost of about $30 per day . All in all our stay at Lotus Lodge was a lot less enjoyable than we had hoped for , but it didn't cost us much , apart from our time.

About 3km out of the town in the back streets. Pleasantly surprised upon arrival as driving through the back streets started to alarm me. Free Tuk Tuk into town before 9pm, don't pay more than $3 return and make sure you have the correct change as they always say they have no change!! Staff are pleasant and helpful and speak excellent English.
The rooms are very basic with basic facilities, beds are clean and comfortable. Ask for a room with a fridge and safety deposit box as my daughter staying in the room next door had neither.
Breakfast is included- not bad, other meals ordered throughout the day are reasonably priced but expect to wait a longggggggg time!
The pool area is very clean and modern, there are a few tiles missing inside the pool but nothing to worry about. The bar area is more than adequate with a pool table.

Overall a lovely stay on a budget.

Room Tip: Ask for room with safety deposit box and fridge.

Would not stay here again. poor AC was overriding problem in hot weather town, where one wants to get enough sleep to be rested enough to appreciate the awesome experience of visiting Angkor Wat.
room temp was 30 C at early afternoon arrival and still 30 after AC working 5 hours later. ran it all night and was only 29 C in the morning. I asked about getting a different room but was told all rooms were the same. hotel advertisement says there is air conditioning. This is misleading. AC was minimally functional, if at all.
other negatives: small, spartan, smelly bathroom. safe in room was key operated.
also, location is on a dirt road outside of main area of town. no stores or restaurants around it.
not convenient to walk to anywhere. we moved after one night to a regular hotel, of which there seem to be plenty, which had very good AC and up to date facilities.
IMHO, strictly a low budget, low end place which may be well suited to low very budget minded travelers who are comfortable with very warm rooms.

Just returned from a 5 day stay at this out of town lodge and enjoyed my stay. OK this is not Raffles but the staff are extremely welcoming and helpful, the pool is wonderful, especially after a long hot days sightseeing.

This may be a little on the remote side but only 15 minutes out by Tuk Tuk, I went to pub street every night for dinner.

I found this to be a great place to stay giving an authentic Cambodian feel due to its location and fantastic value for the price

We stayed at the hotel a couple of months ago, and we loved it! Its a bit out of town in a real Cambodian village, so you really got to experience the real country and how Cambodians live. It was very quiet and peaceful, clean, and I would recommend.

I stayed in the Lotus Lodge while travelling solo. The hotel was very quaint and safe, away from the busy city, with clean rooms, beautiful gardens, and an amazing pool. Best of all though was the staff! They are all so sweet, and when I had an issue with my AC not quite being cool enough, they immediately attended to me and changed the filter and made it freezing cold for me. The tours they offer are amazing! My favorite part were the tours for sure. The restaurant had delicious food (try the khmer bbq!) and the pool, again, was the best I've seen in Asia! Amazing value.
