“Response to “Nos robaron mientras dormíamos!!!””
Reviewed 15 November 2012

My name is Margo, and I have spent many months on and off staying at our Best Western Guesthouse. I happen to actually be staying at the guesthouse at the time of this group.

This is what I heard them say to the owner of the guesthouse, as I was present when they first brought up the claim:
They arrived at 10pm after having spent an evening out in Pub Street. They said they had been out to dinner and had kept their money in a pouch. I enquired as to whether they had actually returned to the restaurant to see if they had found their money pouch, to which they said the staff said they'd found nothing. I responded saying that it would be unlikely that someone would admit to having just found $600 (which was the initial amount of money they told us was missing...)

None of the staff members were present or working, except for the security guard and the night manager, who was the only person who'd even known they’d, checked in as it was so late.

My personal response to this, is that the staff at the guesthouse are the most generous of spirit and courteous, respectful and would feel incredibly hurt that this claim had even been directed at them.

As for the response for the manager, she responded to the situation empathetically and encourages them to pursue their tracks from the previous night. the manager also continued to be supportive in any of their enquires.

I personally feel saddened that this group of people felt that they could not communicate in words to management about how they were feeling, but have instead expressed their 'experience' through TripAdvisor, without being at all certain of the true events.

I stayed here for 5 nights recently and this was my second visit to this lovely guesthouse.
My room was $15 a night for a twin room with air con. Everything you need!
Bob and Claire are fantastic hosts, as is Bun, and they do everything they can to make your stay more comfortable. They are so friendly, helpful and welcoming.
The menu for food is excellent. Couldn't go past vegemite on toast for breakfast! The iced coffee is also awesome...missing it already!
The location is excellent, you are just down the road from pub street so everything (food, supermarket, laundry, drinks, the river, markets etc) is so close. But, as you are a street away from the bustle, the rooms are lovely and quiet.
My only complaint was that I went up to my room when it was being cleaned and found the girls playing with my makeup that was in my bag, which made me feel quite uncomfortable.
But in 2 trips - this is the only bad thing I could possibly say about this friendly and home feeling guesthouse.
Don't bother looking anywhere else - this is where you need to stay :)

Room Tip: Go for rooms on the west side, some of the other travellers at the same time mentioned that they wer...

Claire A, Manager at Angkor Voyage Villa, responded to this review, 11 October 2012
Hello Rebecca!! Thankyou for lovely words and marks of excellence for our guesthouse. It was certainly great to see you with your beautiful smile here for a second visit.
I just wanted to clear up any misgivings other travellers may have about your complaint with our housekeeping girls looking through your make up case. I have, on many occasions talked to my staff about this problem, as you can imagine, they are very curious about the sorts of things that we westerners carry with us in our bags!!
My manager Bun, tells me that you did report the problem to him and he responded immediately by meeting with girls in question. They did extend their apology to you through him.
I am very proud to say that during the 2 years we have managed this guesthouse so far, our guests have NEVER EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF ANY OF THEIR POSSESSIONS, so yes, our girls may be curious, but they are not thieves. In fact, Bun also reported to me that you had misplaced your wallet in your room, and the housekeepers actually helped you to find it.
Once again, please accept my apology, and we look forward to seeing you again in your future travels.

I stayed here with a group of 7 other students (aged 20-27) from a Scottish university for eight weeks whilst volunteering at a nearby school. We couldn't have picked a better place to spend our time. The Guesthouse was just brilliant- Australian and Khmer run- Claire and Bun made our stay here a lot of fun and made us feel nothing but welcome and part of the family. We didn't meet co-owner Bob (Claire's husband), however we have heard such wonderful things about him too. Situated right in the heart of Siem Reap close to Pub Street, the location is great. The staff are happily available to run a variety of different tours from Tuk Tuk rides through Angkor Wat at extremely reasonable prices, to moto tours to rustic little villages in the countryside. The rooms were spacious and elegantly decorated, complete with ensuite and a television with a variety of different channels. It also serves a yummy selection for breakfast, along with plenty of choice for lunches and dinners and was regularly busy as a result. The food cooked by Vireak and Mau was absolutely delicious- both western food and khmer specialities available! You'd made a great decision by staying here- it's a very social guesthouse with brilliant service. The staff made our stay in Siem Reap all the more special- an all round beautiful homely guesthouse. 5 STARS... AND MORE!

We loved the place.
The location was central and an easy walk to all markets, night markets and pub street. The staff are fab, we felt like we were part of the family. We stayed for three nights and wanted to stay for ten. Bob and Clare are aussies and will look after you.
Great food and drinks and they will book all your travel stuff too, even teaching at a local school for the day.
:)

Room Tip: We had a big room. Great !

We stayed for 5 nights based on the reviews and we were very glad we did. The location is tops and our room was clean and spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Bob and Claire have wealth of knowledge about the local culture and the area. They are too happy to help you with information about volunteering at the local school, shopping, sight seeing, dining and anything you want to know. They certainly know how to keep their guests and staff happy. We certainly felt very welcomed and a part of the family when we were introduced to the other guests and invited to join in for drinks in the evening at the front foyer. We really enjoyed our stay and will stay there again. If you have the time, do the Mystery Bike Tour, Highly recommended.

Brilliant Guest House. We stayed here for 6 nights and could have stayed longer. We were picked up for free from the bus stop and checked into our room. It was very big and cool, with ensuite and tv. Because we had to change rooms during our stay we were offered a complimentary breakfast which was a very nice gesture. The owners and staff were all very friendly and gave us very good advise on what to do in Siem Reap. The hotel was 3 mins walk from ‘pub street’ so there were plently of food and drink options nearby (without the hotel being too noisy). Breakfast was very nice (HP sauce on offer was a real bonus).

One thing that made our stay here really special was the tuk tuk service offered by the guest house. They own several tuk tuks and could arrange private tours of Angkor, as well as other sights (eg floating village). And because the guest house staff drive them they were very reliable and cheap and we didn’t need to worry about being overcharged. (Granted it was a bit odd to have be served breakfast by the same person who was driving us around Angkor the previous day). The sunrise visit to Angkor Wat was a highlight of my 6 month trip in Asia.

Great Hotel, Great Staff, Great city
