“Frustrating and bad location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2009

They did not pick us up from the airport which was disappointing. We booked directly with the hotel and had a confirmation number and email. They lost our booking. It took 2 hours to resolve the missing booking. Frustrating. They did provide a shuttle service to the bus station at the end of our stay.

Dinning - The english menu translation is incorrect for a number of the items (at least by Canadian standards). Double check before ordering. Breakfast was really good. Had a bad room service experience.

Room
Good size. The bed was hard, but comfortable. CLEAN. Safe worked well.
Toilet seat was stained horribly, but clean.
Typical shower: Warm, hot, scalding, hot, scalding, hot., etc...
Shared the room with two noisy lizards for 3 nights.

Laundry at hotel is expensive (ex. $1 US for underwear, $3.5 US for a shirt) - in town, $2 per kg.
Extra TP ($5 US for one roll),
Local phone calls are $0.50 per minute.

Nice pool, but the sides are very rough. Be careful.

Staff is polite and friendly, but incompetent at times.

Tuk tuk mafia - Tuk tuks outside the hotel will cost more than tuk tuk's in Siem Reap. They have a little cartel going, but there are plenty of tuk tuks going by the hotel so you don't have to use them. Negiotate hard and walk away to get consistently better prices. Siem Reap should cost $1-2. Flag down an empty tuk tuk coming back from Angkor for the $1 fare.

The best restaurants are in Siem Reap on Pub Street or Pub Street Alley. Very limited selection of restaurants in walking distance of the hotel.

We stayed at the Tara Angkor for 2 nights in November and cannot fault it. We were welcomed warmly and were able to check in our room early at 10.00am. The room was comfortable, stylish, and clean with a fantastic bathroom.

Breakfast was great with a variety of choices. The pool are was small but pleasant and perfect for a swim after a long day at Angkor Wat.

We would highly recommend this hotel and will stay again.

My husband and I stayed here in November 2009 for our vacation in the Superior King room for about $70 per night.

Pros - excellent pool, close to Angkor temples so it is convenient when you are coming back for a break at midday, free internet wireless available in the lobby, 4 computer stations also in the lobby but not always all working, in room mini fridge, safe, TV, strong air con, spacious bright rooms, excellent service for booking tours and transportation, buffet breakfast included with egg station, pastries, cereal, pancakes and a selection of Asian cuisine like noodles, soup, stir fry.

Cons - not many shops or restaurants within walking distance, pool is so popular that there may not be enough lounge chairs at peak times

Other notes: We were plagued by water plumbing problems during our stay - yellow water coming out of the pipes, but it was fixed by the next day and the staff were very apologetic. Unfortunately, this impacted our opinion of this hotel although it may have been just a one time thing.

Recommended for older couples who want modern luxury rooms and are seeing the Angkor temples as their primary activity. Not recommended for those who need to be within walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

My partner and I stayed at Tara Ankor for 4 nights from the 15th of November to the 19th of November. It was a wonderful stay. We didn't manage to check in early as the room was not ready and we had to come back at 2pm but this was because we arrived at 7am. So we went out to Angkor Wat instead. When we came back - hot, dusty and sticky, our room was ready for us and we were greeted with a room that was already cooled for us. We stayed in the executive suite and we had a small living room and also a bedroom. There was even a small 2 seater dining table that we could use. The staff at Tara Angkor went out of their way to draw a petal bath for us and had arranged "happy anniversary" on the bed with rose petals! And they even had arranged for a cake with "happy anniversary" on it. I only mentioned in my booking on www.agoda.com that it was our anniversary so we would like to have a nice room if there was a separate wing or a nicer view or a quieter room. They picked up on that and went the extra mile for us.

The only few things that I can think of that might be a little bit of a hassle for other is that for the hot water in the bath, you have to let the water run for a little while probably about 3 mins or so. I hate to waste but it was freezing! Usually after running a while, the hot water then comes. Also, not all the staff's english is good so communicating with some might involve patience and hand signs. But it is Cambodia and they do try so, all this was just little things for me.

Hope others' experience would be similar to mine as Tara Angkor Hotel made my holiday that little more special. =)

Hi everyone, I have just returned from a four day stay at the Tara-Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap. This hotel is fabulous, located half way between the city of Siem Reap and the famed Angkor Wat temple you will find this hotel to be a real oasis of pleasures. The Tara Angkor is a new hotel which has everything you will need while you’re in Cambodia. If there is one thing that I have to mention and that really stands out is the service, incredible, I mean they take care of you like if you were a king. My room was on the 5th floor and had two queen size beds a desk and plenty of space to put your clothes away. The bathroom is large with a separate bath and glassed in shower. You will find all the amenities like cable TV, safe, fridge. Breakfast was included in my rental and it had everything you could imagine, fresh fruits, sushi, soup, rice, noodles, sausages, ham, bacon, chicken, pork and of course eggs any style and much much more. We also had supper there very inexpensive, I ordered a pizza, the fun part is he wheeled over a cart and he made my pizza in front of me with the ingredients I chose, it was real nice! Here is a tip for you, if you are here to visit the numerous temples instead of using a Tuktuk to get around hire a personal driver with a car or van, much more comfortable and it works out to a total of thirty dollars a day and if you are two or more that`s like fifteen per person or less. We hired an English speaking driver who was absolutely superb by the name of Mono, he had a minivan and he was there for us from sunrise to sunset and never rushed us and shared plenty of interesting information about the temples and sites and also showed us the other side of the Cambodian life, I recommend him for your traveling around Siem Reap you can email him at: [--]. So stay at the Tara-Angkor I recommend it and I know you won’t be disappointed.

We stayed in Tara Angkor for a few days visiting Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. The location of hotel itself is good, since its just 5 mins to Siem Reap city and only 7 mins to Angkor Wat. So right in the middle.

The staff are very courteous and smiling. the rooms were clean, though i should say to please close ur windows at evening, since there a lot of flying bugs in Cambodia which are attracted to light.

The hotel does arrange for Tuk-tuk or car for a whole day at a reasonable price, so no problem on that front. Else you can step out of hotel and get a tuk-tuk for around 2$ to city or angkor wat. My advice just take the tuk-tuk for the whole day. It works out much cheaper and also its quite easier to travel around the temples.

The breakfast spread was quite nice and the food was tasty. So overall very happy with staying at Tara Angkor. Dont mind staying there again. And oh yes do try the 'fish in the Coconut' dish at the restaurant( i think its called Amok trey). quite nice.
