First impressions of the hotel were good. Airport pickup went smoothly, nice lobby with free internet. However the room was average and the bed was EXTRAORDINARILY hard. So uncomfortable that we only managed 2-3 hours of sleep in our first 2 nights.

Service was variable. We asked for an electrical adaptor on day 1 and we were given a broken one. When we asked for a new one, they didn't have any others. The staff at check-out were unsmiling and lacked warmth and even basic courtesy. Other staff were much more friendly & helpful.

Breakfast was average and the service was poor. Tables were left unclean and food unrefreshed while staff looked on and did nothing.

Given the price, I would recommend choosing another hotel, purely for bed comfort alone, let alone the other small annoyances.

1. Location: Great! Close to main sites: Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Angkor National Museum. Near airport. Main town is an enjoyable, short (10 - 15min) and cheap (USD3) tuk-tuk ride away.

2. Free wifi in lobby and computers available there too. But only until 10pm; better if 24 hours.

3. Staff is good: speaks English competently, courteous and efficient.

4. Breakfast is good: wide range, attempts to vary food daily.

5. Pool is GREAT! Nice-looking well-equipped gym.

6. Beautiful hotel, relatively cheap. New and well-kept: clean. Rooms are of a good size and well-equipped: bath tub, wide range of tv channels, hot water, aircon.

This is a brand new hotel on the main road towards Angkor Wat. As a new hotel the facilities are clean, new and comfortable. It seems this hotel is on many group tour routes as there were tons of groups passing through every day. A good base to see the Temples. Rooms are comfortable but not 5 star rooms. A/C is good and the bed was just OK otherwise I would have rated it higher. Most of all its a good value. Don't spend more than 100 US for this place or you are overpaying. Also, with most of Siem Reap don't expect much if any English from the staff.

They did not pick us up from the airport which was disappointing. We booked directly with the hotel and had a confirmation number and email. They lost our booking. It took 2 hours to resolve the missing booking. Frustrating. They did provide a shuttle service to the bus station at the end of our stay.

Dinning - The english menu translation is incorrect for a number of the items (at least by Canadian standards). Double check before ordering. Breakfast was really good. Had a bad room service experience.

Room
Good size. The bed was hard, but comfortable. CLEAN. Safe worked well.
Toilet seat was stained horribly, but clean.
Typical shower: Warm, hot, scalding, hot, scalding, hot., etc...
Shared the room with two noisy lizards for 3 nights.

Laundry at hotel is expensive (ex. $1 US for underwear, $3.5 US for a shirt) - in town, $2 per kg.
Extra TP ($5 US for one roll),
Local phone calls are $0.50 per minute.

Nice pool, but the sides are very rough. Be careful.

Staff is polite and friendly, but incompetent at times.

Tuk tuk mafia - Tuk tuks outside the hotel will cost more than tuk tuk's in Siem Reap. They have a little cartel going, but there are plenty of tuk tuks going by the hotel so you don't have to use them. Negiotate hard and walk away to get consistently better prices. Siem Reap should cost $1-2. Flag down an empty tuk tuk coming back from Angkor for the $1 fare.

The best restaurants are in Siem Reap on Pub Street or Pub Street Alley. Very limited selection of restaurants in walking distance of the hotel.

We stayed at the Tara Angkor for 2 nights in November and cannot fault it. We were welcomed warmly and were able to check in our room early at 10.00am. The room was comfortable, stylish, and clean with a fantastic bathroom.

Breakfast was great with a variety of choices. The pool are was small but pleasant and perfect for a swim after a long day at Angkor Wat.

We would highly recommend this hotel and will stay again.

My husband and I stayed here in November 2009 for our vacation in the Superior King room for about $70 per night.

Pros - excellent pool, close to Angkor temples so it is convenient when you are coming back for a break at midday, free internet wireless available in the lobby, 4 computer stations also in the lobby but not always all working, in room mini fridge, safe, TV, strong air con, spacious bright rooms, excellent service for booking tours and transportation, buffet breakfast included with egg station, pastries, cereal, pancakes and a selection of Asian cuisine like noodles, soup, stir fry.

Cons - not many shops or restaurants within walking distance, pool is so popular that there may not be enough lounge chairs at peak times

Other notes: We were plagued by water plumbing problems during our stay - yellow water coming out of the pipes, but it was fixed by the next day and the staff were very apologetic. Unfortunately, this impacted our opinion of this hotel although it may have been just a one time thing.

Recommended for older couples who want modern luxury rooms and are seeing the Angkor temples as their primary activity. Not recommended for those who need to be within walking distance to restaurants and shopping.
