I have stayed at the Starland on about five different occasions, and always been treated courteously and had a good sized, clean room and had no complaints. The hotel is in the Bonapriso area, and has a good buffet breakfast and a small bar. Several good bars and restaurants are nearby, within about three or four blocks, should you feel like venturing out. Most TV channels are in French, although I did get the BBC news in English. The hotel has wireless internet access for guests.

This hotel was my home for over 2 months and there was nothing i could ever complain about!! The staff were so helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and kept that way always, the hotel is managed very well, better than many of the "so called" five / six / seven star hotels, they could learn a few things on hospitality from this property.

this hotel, was brilliant, not far from Airport, clean rooms, internet wonderful and free, food lovely,
especially the tropical fruit, staff accommodating.
Compared to the Hilton in Yaounde, this is a refreshing change.

Room Tip: We all had different rooms, and all were lovely.

I travel a ton in Sub Sahara Africa for both business and pleasure. This place met every need! The staff were friendly and eager to be of assistance- quite anticipatory; akin to service I've had while traveling in Asia. Internet was good, rooms were clean and airy. I loved the modern clean lines and simplicity of the decor. Comfy beds with decent thread count linens. Absence of carpet meant zero mold! After having stayed at the yde Hilton for a week, this was such a relief! Wish the management would consider a location in Yaounde:)

Room Tip: Rear facing rooms are more quiet!

This is a small but great hotel for the business traveler with a very nice and accommodating staff which make up for any misgivings. Food is typical hotel food, good but very pricey. Located near some small restaurants and markets. Arts and craft market behind the hotel but beware the will REALLY try to charge exorbitant prices. Haggling is expected, of course, but not when they start WAY too high. Breakfast buffet is highly recommended.

Room Tip: The view to the back is the best.

I stayed here from 11th -13th March 2014 and it was all i had seen on the internet. Clean, new & bright. even the staff were friendly enough & switched to English once you declared you didnt understand French. The airport pick up waited for 2 hours as our flight was delayed, friendly driver, marketing his hotel all the way. Breakfast was fine & for the 2 days i had it, wasn't monotonous. I didn't use the gym or swimming pool but I guess it would have been as described. It was a truly standard hotel, had a fridge, tea-making facilities & mini bar. It was a good experience for me, being my second time in Douala. Even TV channels had 2 English news & 1 sports channel. However i think they could improve on that by adding at least one English movie channel. Overall peaceful environment although it's expensive!

We enjoyed 3 different stays during February 2014 at Starland Hotel. The rooms are top-notch, with all fixtures in good working order. We stayed in 2 different rooms on the top floor overlooking the pool. Those rooms have nice views over Douala toward the port with the sea in the distance. The room at the very end of the hall had weaker wifi signal but all rooms have wired internet as well. Those rooms were a little warm at night & I had some trouble operating the thermostat. We also stayed in a room on the 3rd floor on the front side on the hotel. This room had a little more noise from the street, but the street is relatively quiet & residential. Air conditioning seemed to work better in this room, maybe because the room did not get afternoon sun.
The self-service breakfast buffet has good variety of hot and cold foods as well as tasty breads and pastries. The selection of local fruit was different every morning & always yummy!
We enjoyed beers pool-side several afternoons and service from the bar was very good, not slow as some reviewers have complained.
We also enjoyed dinner several nights at the Terrace, rooftop bar/restaurant. This restaurant has about 6 tables overlooking the pool and port. The service is a little slow here but remember, the food is coming up from the ground floor. Food always arrived within a reasonable time & was hot & tasty.
The hotel provided transport for us both to and from the airport in a comfortable van with a nice polite driver. If you are looking for a private car to hire, several drivers are registered with the hotel & park across the road from the front entrance. We used Blaise for a trip to Limbe & were pleased with him & his car.
The only suggestion I have for the hotel is to provide information (menus & hours of service) about the 2 restaurants in the guest rooms. Otherwise, a great stay & highly recommended!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking pool get afternoon sun & are hotter at night. Rooms at the end of the hallway...
