“The food is good, but the service is not”

Good Peruvian food, and centrally located in a renovated house. But the two times I went there, the waiters have not been friendly, or polite in their service.

“A very tasty taste of Peru”
Reviewed 1 March 2011

Having never had Peruvian food -- but having heard rave reviews of it -- I tried Fina Estampa, located just blocks away from the main plaza. It was a quiet place when I arrived at 10:30pm (but I called ahead for a reservation, just in case). I ordered a plate of mixed ceviche for an appetizer, and one of the traditional Peruvian dishes as the main plate.

The taste of the ceviche -- accompanied by two corn varietals -- was a fantastic blend of smooth tastes from the various seafoods and tangy sharpness from the chopped onions and lemon juice. An amazing blend of tastes that makes a good ceviche really worthwhile.

The main dish -- seafood with rice -- came out as a healthy portion and decorated merrily with two clam shells. It was just shy of truly sublime; the rice cooked to perfection, rich and fluffy, mixed together with tasty cuts of seafood.

The only unfortunate part was dessert. I ordered the tiramisu, and it was disappointing. Perhaps one of the other tasty looking options on the platter would have provided a better completion to this otherwise wonderful repast.

I would also suggest -- if making a reservation -- to ask for the non-smoking seating area (which is on the first floor). It's a nice change to be able to taste the delicate flavors of the food that you are eating.
