First off, I did not select this hotel and I do not know how much it costs when booked independently; I was assigned it as part of a tour. That said, I was very satisfied. Its called a "hostal" but I think a private room with its own bathroom, TV and telephone counts as a modest hotel, to be honest. There are no dorms as far as I know.
It was very warm, which is a good thing in Patagonia! Extremely clean. Bed was comfortable and shower pressure good.
Breakfast is ok although nothing to write home about - bread rolls, cake, yoghurt, tea or coffee, juice (not fresh, but it is rarely is in Patagonia).
Staff were pleasant and contrary to some previous reviews, the reception staff do speak English now. I had problems with the door lock on my room and while the first staff member just struggled with the door for ages, the second one swapped my key for the spare one and that worked fine.
This hotel was my little bit of luxury on a trip and the only time I had a private bathroom; if you're used to big chain hotels it will be a step down, but if you've been backpacking it will be a step up. It also, unlike a hostal, is not really a place where you get chatting to other travellers. It's often used by Chilean families, it seems, which makes it much busier at the weekends than during the week.
