“Generally solid choice”

First off, I did not select this hotel and I do not know how much it costs when booked independently; I was assigned it as part of a tour. That said, I was very satisfied. Its called a "hostal" but I think a private room with its own bathroom, TV and telephone counts as a modest hotel, to be honest. There are no dorms as far as I know.

It was very warm, which is a good thing in Patagonia! Extremely clean. Bed was comfortable and shower pressure good.

Breakfast is ok although nothing to write home about - bread rolls, cake, yoghurt, tea or coffee, juice (not fresh, but it is rarely is in Patagonia).

Staff were pleasant and contrary to some previous reviews, the reception staff do speak English now. I had problems with the door lock on my room and while the first staff member just struggled with the door for ages, the second one swapped my key for the spare one and that worked fine.

This hotel was my little bit of luxury on a trip and the only time I had a private bathroom; if you're used to big chain hotels it will be a step down, but if you've been backpacking it will be a step up. It also, unlike a hostal, is not really a place where you get chatting to other travellers. It's often used by Chilean families, it seems, which makes it much busier at the weekends than during the week.

We stayed twice at the Hostal. Our first room had a small entrance hall, a spacious bedroom with a two beds (one kingsized and a single) and a bathroom that was big enough. While everything was a bit run down, it was clean and basically ok. The walls were so thin, however, that we heard everything our neighbours said and they weren't yelling, they just had a normal conversation. Breakfast was simple but ok, with coffee, tea, an extremely sweet liquid that passed as orange juice, rolls, cheese, ham, jam and honey. A couple of weeks later we were passing through Puerto Natales again and stayed at the Hostal a second time. They had forgotten that we had ordered a room with twinbeds and gave us a very small room with a very small bed in it, but thankfully a room with twinbeds was available and we changed into that one. Other than the room of our first stay this one was tiny. The towel rack in the bathroom came of if you just touched it and the shower wasn't any better. Again we heard everything that was going on in the hall and other rooms and we were glad that we had brought earplugs so we could get some sleep. The location is good. Restaurants, travel agencies etc. are within walking distance. The staff didn't speak English but were very nice and polite.

Room Tip: I'm not sure but I think the large room we stayed in was number 23.

Arrived at quarter to midnight. Room was warm and cosy. The receptionist organised our trip to Torres Del Paine the next day leaving at 7.30am and booked our bus tickets to Punta Arenas for the day after, despite speaking very limited English. Hotel located a stones throw from the square and the sea so perfect location. Great value. Basic but good breakfast. After a cold windy day in the park, this simple hotel hits the spot.

Very small rooms and thin wals in this hostal don' t give you enough privacy. The staff can' t speak English, Spanish language is very necessary there. But it is in walking distance of very good restaurants - for example Ultima Esperanza and the centre of the city.

I had a good time in Puerto Natales staying in this small hostel.

The staff was really nice and the breakfast for the area quite good. My room was clean and comfortable, despite being a bit small. Wireless and water were all available.

We stayed in this hotel before and after our trekking trip in the montains. The hotel is very pleasant, with reasonably sized rooms and a nice bathroom. The furniture is not new, but functional. As usual in South America, there is no tea/coffee facility, however breakfast is served in a large room and it's typically a continental breakfast, with various local sweets.
Water is drinkable. The hotel has WiFi and a PC for use by the guests. The manager was very kind and welcoming and helped us with some good restaurant recommendations. Hairdryer and shampoo can be asked at reception as they are not avaialble in the rooms.
The hotel is located very close to the town centre and very close to the fjord shore.
We would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel. One thing - make sure that you bring ear plugs as the hotel is for the majority made of wood, which creaks a lot with a lot of the guests arriving and leaving at different time of the day, or night.

We spend a week in Puerto Natales. We are so happy to spend our last day in Puerto Natales in the comfort of the Hostal Francis Drake.
Two days earlier we were staying in another hostal and it was not comfortable, to say the least.
Feeling exhausted and a little “under the weather” we decided to spend a bit more and check in to a nicer place. We seen this hostel and it looked quiet and cozy. When we arrived, we got the twin bed room, which we booked online, but I saw a lovely double bed room and requested for it. The staff said it was, “impossible” as the entire hostel was booked.
I must have looked dismay as the owner of the place notice it and he arranged and made it Possible. This is what I call 1st class service. The ability to be flexible and perceptive.
A lovely way to spend the entire day resting in our cozy, clean and spacious room with the big sunlit window. Compared to the two other hostels we stayed in this town this place is quiet like a sanctuary.
Kudos to Francis Drake Hostal, Puerto Natales
