“Excellent food and well-designed room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2014

Hotel Remota was the last place we stayed during a trip to Chile that involved six different hotels. All were excellent but Remota really stood out in terms of the room design and quality of the food and restaurant service. From the outside, it looks kind of funky and inside it's also a bit strange for a modern hotel. The rooms are even kind of odd-looking at first, but once we noticed that there was more than enough shelf space to spread out all our stuff (even in the bathroom) and more than enough hangers to hang up all our clothes, the room didn't seem so weird after all. This was the only hotel where that was true out of some very high-end ones we stayed at during this trip.

During our trip we had some fantastic meals, but I think Remota outdid everyone else. As a vegetarian, I often end up with just a plate of vegetables, but the Remota staff always came up with excellent, interesting meals for me. Service was excellent. Our waiter Miguel (Mickey) went way above and beyond the call of duty in serving our group, even when he also had to take care of an even larger group at the same time. One evening several of us were in the lobby working on our computers shortly before dinner when Mickey brought down appetizers for us without even being asked. He even remembered I was vegetarian and pointed out the ones with no meat or fish. Another evening several members of our group asked for the vegetarian meal after they found out what I was going to get, but Mickey said he thought the chef had made only enough for me. However, when the food came out he was able to provide the vegetarian meal for everyone who wanted it. Really fantastic.

We didn't take advantage of the Remota's activities because we had our own guide, bus, and driver, but from what we saw they had a lot of interesting activities that covered a wide range of interests.

We chose this place because of their fly fishing package and because it was our honey moon they also included things from the honey moon package. We got to do full day fishing, full day at Torres Del Paine park, horse back riding, visit to glaciers... things that pleased us both. Always had a driver and a guide at our service that would also serve as cooks during our day trips. The food was amazing, the staff the nicest I have ever encountered, the massage was our best ever!
The way the building is designed makes the rooms have amazing views. The only thing I could complain was the fact that the bathroom had a glass window to the bedroom so anyone can see what's going on in the bathroom.
But over all a fantastic experience!

The Remota features some of the most unusual hotel architecture I have ever seen. The lobby is huge with glass walls bringing in a lot of light. The rooms feature an interesting rough wood shelf going around almost the entire perimeter which was terrific for suitcases and supplies. One potential drawback with the architecture is that there are lots of ramps and staircases and slippery rugs throughout the halls and lobby. I bumped my head once on a staircase and I am sure some people have tripped on the rugs every now and then. The restaurant and bar staff were very efficient and friendly. The Remota is a 25 minute walk or 5 minute drive to Puerto Natales, which makes for an interesting (though not spectacular) one hour stroll for window shopping, etc. The famous mylodon caves where remains of a giant sloth were discovered are only a 30 minute drive away and well worth the trip. We saw several condors flying about near the devils chair formation outside of the caves. The ride to the Torres del Paine section of the park is a bit long but well worth it. All in all I recommend the Remota.

We stayed here for three very pleasant nights. First off, architecturaly this place was really neat. Rooms were really great, bright, modern, concrete and wood, big window. Beds/linens terrerifc. Bathrooms were cool but not well designed w/ window in from bedroom w/ no curtain or shade (???). I love my spouse but... Pool was amazing. separate from hotel but really long. Saunas were also very nice, though we had to ask to turn on. Food was very good. Easy transfer...they picked us up from Punta Arenas for $300, 2.5 hour drive. Would def go back. Bar area/dining room was beautiful and service friendly. Try a Calafate Pisco Sour, great cocktail. Only real issue was staff experience was mixed. Servers were mostly good, but we had to ask for them to replenish basic items in breakfast buffet. A bigger issue...we were not part of inclusive program and when we asked front desk for help in planning...they were pretty much useless. Almost seemed like they resented that we had only signed up for bed/breakfast option. We told them what we wanted to do and they were still reluctant to help. Asked about some day trips...no help. I found a website to kayak and they helped call. (Would highly recommend Angelo at Espritu Patagonia for full day expedition!) Town is very close...15-20 minute walk. We ordered a taxi to get into town one night and they said..don't worry, you can wait as it only takes 5-10 minutes. We then had to wait 30 minutes and while we sat they didn't do much to try and rectify or follow up cab? We went on to Explora where we had time of our lives. No real comparison to that for Remota or Singular given Explora location cannot be beat right in middle of stunning park. Would def recommend staying at Remota as it is really unique hotel and great way to break up a 4-5 hour drive from Punta Arenas to Explora. Note, we also stayed at Singular on way back. While it was much more impressive architecturally.. and bit more stylish. We actually preferred Remota which was much more intimate, closer to town, had far better pool, and had better food in our opinion. Puerto Natales is also kind of tiny but fun...had couple great meals at pizza place (Mesita, right off main square) and more upscale (Afrigonia).

Room Tip: The room right off the lobby ...were great, easy to access, great views.

My wife and I stayed a night at the Remota. It was very pleasant. We enjoyed the pool. The room was very comfortable and clean. It's a plus that it didn't have a TV.
Location is great.
Only cons: not enough light in room and bathroom, and bad pastry with the breakfast.

Awesome hotel in Puerto Natales, great for day trips to Torres Del Paine. We stayed here coming from El Calafate. Wonderful service with a superb design, rooms are really nice and relaxing. I loved the pool, besides the design great for a swim after a day of walking.
The quality of the bed is really good, we slept really well.
The restaurant in the hotel is of high quality as well, they have a promising chef who can surprise you with delicous dishes. I loved the starter, the eggplant with tomatoe was simple but delicious. The carpaccio of guanaco is also very nice. The wine selection is nice but rather expensive. The menu is very reasonable priced.
If you are depending on wifi, this is only available in the lobby and reading area. The rooms do not have internet or TV. I liked it, the concept is to relax but if you really need it be advised.

I feel that I should write two different reviews....so below find one on the hotel (3 stars) and one on the excursions (5 stars! ) and experience fishing (5++++)

Excurions: now, this is the main reason you come here and we mostly had a fabulous time. We came for the fishing and it did not dissapoint. Our guide was all that you could ask for, knowledgable, fun, helpful, etc. the best days fishing I have ever had ecen though our week was unseasonably cold. I took some other excurions and they were also adversely affected by the weather (flooded river, etc.) but the guides did a great job adjusting, finding other options and really know the area and share a lot of information. My only suggestion is that they don't like to book excurions in advance of your trip, for many good reasons like weather, but if you are going in the super busy season, like we did, many of the listed options may not be available on the dates you want them, so try to work with the hotel on any you are especially interested in. Also, there is a lot of driving to see the park, since the hotel is so far from the park. The combined option with Carafate may be a good option for those woshing to see more of the northern part.

Hotel: i am not Personally wild about the design. It was very cold when we were there and you are channeled through livestock paths (really, the design is inspired by sheep runs) putside to room and pool. It's not very convenient or comfortable. And all the "rustic" finishes look a bit tired. The bed, though, was super comfie and the room suitable for a lot of luggage to spread out with a nice bath. The food was Pretty good overall but not great and we had to chase down coffee a lot in the mornings. But they will always try and accomodate your requests. My biggest nit: they make a big deal about sustainability and give you a metal canister, but there is no obvious filtered source of water to refill it like you see in real eco lodges. I'd suggest they put water stations in the lobby and each hotel wing to encourage guests to use that. I saw a lot of bottled water (plastic) in use and it is not necessary as long as guests are assured of the filtered water safety. They also make great salads for lunch excurions, but use a lot of one-use plastic for those as well and should find a better solution (like reusable cups).

We loved our stay in Patagonia and will be back in the area and quite possibly the remota. Just a few suggestions to hopefully help the experience,
