“A Nice Stay In Puerto Arenas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

The Ilaia Hotel worked out really well for our short stay in Puerto Arenas. Our room was basic but clean and cozy, our breakfasts were delightful and the staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for restaurants, a side tour to Tierra del Fuego and supplying my wife with ice to help her manage some lower back pain. The hotel is an easy walk to the city center and harbor. Our one reservation is that the walls are thin and noise from late arriving guests can be disruptive. Nevertheless, we would be happy to stay at the Ilaia on a return trip to Punta Arenas.

We stayed here for one night. The service and hospitality was great, we felt very welcome. The rooms are basic, with a very nice bathroom. It's located just outside the centre, at walking distance. The breakfast is fantastic, and served with a smile :). Would definitely stay here again on a next visit.

5 of us stayed here on 2 occasions and loved them both, from the warm sunroom on top to the warm hospitality below, it was all wonderful. You'll feel like you are part of the family, and there are many nice touches here, including the printed placemats on recyled paper, with thoughts about life, plus a few on various walls. The breakfast was a feast in itself, from the muesli with yoghurt to the avocado and fresh flat breads, and great coffee. The staff were very helpful with booking a driver to show us the sights out of town, and the rooms are very comfortable, doors are very thick, so no noise whatsoever in the rooms. Large shower heads for a great shower. Thanks for a couple of great visits.

Juanita and the rest of the staff were impressively helpful. The online reservation process was easy and seamless, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming Juanita. She asked of our plans and upon learning of our tour reservation, graciously confirmed our reservation, checked on the weather and set us up to start the day easily. We were awoken with a kind wake up call, went downstairs to find our complimentary breakfast waiting for us, although we had not asked for this in advance.
The staff were genuinely interested in our experiences and satisfaction during our stay. Knowing of our noon bus tickets for our departure they gave us am in requested wake up call an hour before we needed to be at the station which was helpful as our late night the night before had us snoring without and alarm set.

The hugs we were given on our departure were genuine and heart felt.

Do yourself a favor and try to stay here.

My wife and I stayed here for a total of three nights and enjoyed our stay very much. The e-mail reservation procedure was seamless. We arrived to a genuine welcome and felt very much at home. Everyone was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We liked our spacious and bright room. We also liked the very fast wifi available which wasn't the case in most of the other places we had stayed on this trip. It was nice to relax in the enclosed sunny rooftop room. Breakfast was something to look forward to as it was a far cry from the usual ham and cheese. Hot tea is always readily available. The Ilaia is walking distance to the center of the city and our favourite restaurant in Punta Arenas- La Marmita. The whole place oozes peace and tranquility. This is a great choice if you find yourself in Punta Arenas.

We don't have relatives in Chile, but Liz makes you feel like long lost family. Her animated description of how she makes the muesli, tortillas, etc. for breakfast is priceless. We were the only ones in the hotel over Chile's Independence Day, so they could have contacted us to find another hotel but that's not their style. Punta Arenas is not so special, but this hotel is a shiny gem in an otherwise dull and a bit dismal town.

Punta Arenas is a very small city, with not many attractions and few hotels to choose.
This one is by far the best in town with an honest price. The crew makes you feel like home, the rooms are amazing, the rooftop is stunning...
The hotel is quite small so make sure you book in advance.
