Owner description: The Nao Victoria Museum is a private museum. It aims to provide a real experience in replicas of the most important ships in the Magallanes Region. There are four open replicas to visit in the Museum: Nao Victoria, the only fleet commanded by Ferdinand Magellan completed the first circumnavigation of the globe. James Caird, originally a lifeboat Endurance that sailed from Elephant Island to South Georgia during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of Sir Ernest Shackleton 1916. Goleta Ancud, the ship, under the command of Manuel Bulnes, President of Chile, took the sovereignty of the Magellan Strait to Chile with the construction of Fuerte Bulnes. HMS Beagle, the famous British Navy brig, under the command of Captain Fitz Roy raised cartography work of Magallanes Region. Aboard the boat mythical young Charles Darwin began writing his theory of evolution. The museum is interactive, has a technology platform that includes audioguide, touch screen, surround sound, and many replicas of ancient weapons that can be used by visitors to take pictures

I spent an enjoyable afternoon here poking around the ships. I coincidentally arrived just in time for an English-speaking tour to start, which they said I could attend at no extra charge. Admission price is very reasonable. Being on board the ships really gave me a feel for what it must have been like to travel back then, and made me grateful for planes :)

The Museo de Sitio was our pleasant surprise in Punta Arenas. It is not mentioned in any of the major travel books (Lonely Planet, Eyewitness Travel, or Moons). perhaps this is due to its completion in the last two years. This certainly is at the top of "must things" to see. The Nao Victoria ( Magellan's lead ship) is reproduced exactly as it was. To tour this Galleon it a history moment you will not forget. Also the schooner Ancud has been reproduced exactly as the original.

Do not miss this wonderful exhibit.

I don't really know if I would refer to this as a museum (yet). It's quite unfinished, but a surprisingly nice experience. The audio guide is informative but still very rough around the edges, and the Nao Victoria itself is pretty cool but the quality of the mannequins and props is less than breathtaking. However, seeing and being on the ship really is very nice, wondering how the heck they sailed around the world in that. It puts some perspective on how difficult that must have been.
They have another, smaller, ship there as well as Sir Shackleton's life boat. This and the associated story, frankly, gives a whole new meaning to the term "life boat". It's an awe-inspiring story!

1:1 scale replicas of famous ships.

Nao Victoria - Magellan's ship
Ancud - A very important ship to Chile's independence
Shackleton's boat.

And soon to come: HMS Beagle, which is Fitz-Roy and Darwin's ship.

It is great to climb into a 500 y/o ship and immerse yourself in the available nautical technology.
People used to travel around the globe in those things!!! Really amazing!

Cristian, the Italian guy from the staff is really nice.
