This was a great spot to quickly see penguins plus some of the Patagonian countryside. There's a reason so many of the reviews mention the winds though: it's very, VERY windy. I nearly got knocked over twice by the winds. But it was great to be out and seeing penguins + the amazing scenery.

Penguins are the stars of this trip. We were satisfied whith funny animals all around and even our 9 months old daughter loked interested.... On our way we were lucky and meet a sole king penguin on a deserted part of coast. The wind was fierce, but trip just perfect.

Pure joy! Penguins galore on the shore and trundling to their burrows nearby; backdrop was spectacular. We had very limited time and arranged this quick side trip through Comapa in Punta Arenas. Our guide, Oscar, was very accommodating and delightful company for the tour. Bundle up! The wind was exhilarating but fierce.

The trip to get to the Otway Sound penguin colony involves a 40 minute drive along a tar macadam road followed by 50 minutes along a gravelled road. There is then a walk of approx 1 mile until you reach the Magellanic penguins. (NB Wear a wind cheater as the wind can be quite strong). We were able to see the penguins quite close up. During the coach ride, the driver stopped periodically for us to see condors, lama and rheas.

It was quite a long drive, and we think on balance that we saw more when we did a similar trip on the Falkland Islands. However, there are times when it is too rough for cruise ships to anchor near Port Stanley (Falkland Islands), so we booked the Otway Sound trip as an "insurance policy".
