“The staff were the best!”

I ended up in Punta Arenas by accident...literally. My partner broke his hip in Antarctica on the 4th day of our 30 day trip. We were air evacuated to Punta Arenas and he had his hip replaced. I moved to this hotel after 2 days at another property. The staff were so helpful. A big thank you and shout out to the head of housekeeping, Lorna, who bent over backwards to make it all work when he was discharged including putting two mattresses on top of each other so the bed would be

This hotel needs to renovate their rooms. Perhaps some have been renovated however, we paid a lot of money to stay in the oldest room I think I've ever seen. The blankets were so old and stained that it was really scary. The carpet and walls were ancient and the room was stinky. I did not look forward to sleeping there and slept with just one sheet.

The restaurant had good food. The front desk service was really slow but I think it is mostly due to their ultra old computer system. We wished we'd chosen another hotel. When you're away you want to enjoy yourself, not cringe that you have to sleep there.

Room Tip: Ask if they have a renovated room - so that you're not stuck in the 60's with the same beddi...

The hotel is very 60's in its decor. Inside is quite dark. The room however was warm, heated, comfortable bed, and good bathroom facilities. The breakfast was quite good with Bain Maries of different foods like eggs, bacon, meats, pancakes, fruit yoghurt, sweet bread rolls and good tea and coffee. The roof top restaurant had a good view of the sea and part of town. I didnt eat in but found an excellent pizza restaurant in the main street to the right of the hotel. There were some youth on the street that looked suspect on bikes patrolling for handbags no doubt. 5 passes gave me the impression. There was no parking, except for on street. The hotel was reluctant to take on a single Best Western ex staff client, as was the case over most of South America. I tried hard and negotiated a room at a single rate , as they protested they had no rooms at all ( in a hotel of this size with not a customer in sight). The ferry to Ushuaia is at the enterance to town , maybe 5 km north. NOT 200m down the road where the staff protested it was- yes 20 years ago.

Room Tip: Higher floors away from traffic noise.

The hotel is clean and the rooms are comfortable. For the price we paid as foreigners, which is at least 50% above what the locals pay, breakfast was mediocre- food which ran out most of the time was not replaced at all, or replaced very slowly. The menu was the same every single day, which is OK, for 1 or 2 days, but after a while more variation is needed (again, considering the price).Parking in front of the hotel is very limited.Staff is nice.

I stayed one night here before moving on to Puerto Natales. The overall impression is that of a hotel that was refurbished about 10 to 15 years ago, and will need another overhaul in 5 years or so. So it's fine without being great, most likely above the average for Punta Arenas.
The location is good if you arrive by car, as you are within easy walking distance of the centre without having to drive there. You can leave your car in front of the hotel, but watch out where you put it to avoid being fined (I wasn't but I was just lucky).
My room was very large, but with the bathroom being comparatively small.
Breakfast was good for Chilean standards. I also tried the restaurant for dinner as everything else in town was closed (it being Chrismas Day), and that proved to be a surprisingly good choice.
Helpful and friendly staff.

The place had no hot water. after keeping the shower on for a long time we got something colder than luke warm water. Very unpleasant after a 26 hour trip.

They did have free wifi and it was centrally located

Nice enough hotel, very warm (temp in the hotel) a few service idiosynchonisis but once you get used to those then it is a nice place to stay, basically don't sweat the small stuff you are on South American time.

Dear Sr.
Thank you for your opinion.
Can you explain us what do you mean with " a few service idiosynchonisis".
