Being our first trip to Xiamen, I had booked this hotel for our first and last nights in Xiamen. In between, we were in Quanzhou for two nights. As usual, I had depended on Tripadvisor.com to select this hotel and must say that I am not the least disappointed, however, I must also quantify that I am not blown away ...

Took a metered taxi from the Xiamen airport to the hotel, journey was around 20 minutes using the Tunnel Passes, costing RMB50. The other way using the round island route will be more scenic, taking about 30 minutes, but costing around RMB80.

Upon arrival at the Hotel at 1.15pm, we were told that our suite was still not ready. Feeling both tired and disappointed, we headed for lunch at its 2nd floor Chinese restaurant. The dim sum and ala-carte food was of good quality and yet, at reasonable prices. The Hotel's Lobby area is also very grand and impressive!

Having booked a non-smoking Seaview Suite on the higher floor, we were allocated room 1834, one of the corner rooms. Surprisingly, on entering the suite, we discovered that it was about 70sqm, spacious for my mum and myself, but not overly so for the price that the Hotel charges. At RMB1500, NO breakfasts was included in our package. Neither was there a complimentary fruit basket nor a floral arrangement - absolutely nothing!

Bed in the separated bedroom area was huge and comfy, bathroom comes with a nice tub and shower cubicle. The were 2 TVs in the suite and the sitting area is where I had added a single roll away bed for myself - the most comfy roll away bed on this trip but also the most expensive at RMB340! Other hotels only charge RMB100-200 for such a bed, but here, you would have to pay much much more.

The TVs had about 40 channels in total, about 4-5 are in English. Singaporeans will be happy that they even have ChannelNews Asia! The views out of our Seaview Suite was of Gulangyu island, nice but not as nice nor complete as the views from the Lujiang Harbourview Hotel which we had stayed our last night, after cancelling the last night at the Wyndham.

Other than no breakfasts, no acknowledgement of fruits nor flowers, the other main reason for not staying our last night here has to be the 7-8 minutes walk to the shopping street of Zhongsan Lu. This stretch of road has nothing interesting except a yet to complete Shopping complex with Starbucks and Breaktalk confectionery. My 70 year old mum was complaining about this walk, especially at the end of a shopping trip. Hence, I had booked a seaview suite at the Lujiang Harbourview and was pleasantly surprised there (see my other review).

Upon check out, the Receptionist lady did not even bother to ask why we had to cancel our second and last night with them, also no questions being asked like 'How was your stay'? I guess, when you stay at such large chain hotels, this is the sort of treatment you should expect. Overall, we did have a good nights sleep here but was not overwhelmed by its service nor quality.

Used this hotel on a brief weekend stopover during a business trip to China. Looked really nice on the web site, was just kind of nice enough on the actual visit. As the web site shows, is right on the water, and is also only about 10 min from the Longshan Rd pedestrian area in downtown Xiamen. Is only about 5 minutes from the ferry terminal. There is a Starbucks and a Bread Talk on the next block.

But the hotel is a little tired. The shower leaks like all Chinese hotels (really, China: invest in some caulk it will do wonders). The room was huge, not sure why anyone would need such a big room. I didn't try the restaurant, looked typical for big hotels. Service was OK. No complaints, really, just not as nice as I had hoped given the pics and the price. Good enough.

The rooms had great view of gulangyu seaview, were well appointed and comes with standard toiletries. It's very clean and well maintained. Breakfast selection was decent, but I wish there could be more variety for the western warm food section.
There is live music at lobby lounge everyday except Sunday which was perfect for us. There wasn't much cocktail selection, but for a nice place to chill at night without much traveling, I have no complaints.
Wyndham is a stone throw away (7 mins walk) to the gulangyu ferry terminal and the Zhongshan pedestrian shopping street (5 mins walk). Great location for a 1st timer to Xiamen like me!

Wyndham Xiamen lies opposite of Gulangyu Island. Approximately 10 to 15 minutes walk to get to the ferry terminal. View from rooms facing this popular island was fantastic. This hotel has a well maintained gym. The staff were friendly. Room was cosy and equipped for those on leisure and business trip. Zhongshan Road was just minutes away by foot. However, room rate was one of the highest in Xiamen. Relatively, this area was by far more clean than other areas in China.

Room Tip: Sea View is a must

Stayed in a club room. Was very good value at approx 1200 RMB per night. Felt more like we were staying in a Grand Hyatt, but obviously cheaper. All public areas in the hotel are non-smoking, which is great. The breakfast and afternoon tea in the club lounge was good and had enough veggie food for us. Thoroughly recommend.

A client booked this hotel for me. Couldn't thank them enough. The reception gave me a suite for 905 RMB per night. The room service was impeccable. So was their room service. This hotel ranks at the top of my list. When was the last time your suite had two bathrooms?
