Wasn't sure what to expect, but we spent a pleasant couple of hours here, walking up from the bottom, through various gardens, seeing different temples.
It's a steep climb if you go right to the top, but a great view, even though it was quite overcast when we were there. Busy in the popular areas, but quiet once you get away from there. Very green, pleasant area to walk.

I really enjoyed the Xiamen Botanical Garden. It was nice for a long walk, with plants and nice views. It didn't really seem to have as many plants as I would expect for a Botanical Garden, though. It seemed more like a normal park with walking paths, but it was really nice, nevertheless. I especially enjoyed laying on the grass in the sun, in the middle of an area with many beautiful, bending trees.

Eventually we found a path that extended up a mountain. We hiked to the top and took a bunch of pictures. It had a great view.

I will continue to be disappointed by the amount of garbage I see littering the ground all over China, and it was no different in this park. Also, loud trucks and tour vehicles really ruin the peaceful atmosphere.

Overall, a good experience.

It is not a popular place if you visit Xiamen for the first time. However, do come here if you get one more day to stay at Xiamen. It is quite a big park for you to walk and enjoy the nature. Lots of trees and flowers. You can walk to hike to the top of the small hill inside the park. Then you can have a beautiful birdview of Xiamen city. It is definitely worth to visit.

We tend to think of botanical gardens as manicured parks, with large steamy greenhouses, elaborate rockeries and shrubberies and omnipresent "keep off the grass" signs. Not this one!
Located almost downtown Xiamen, it extends over almost 5 square kilometers. Yes, there are collections of bamboos, cacti, palm trees and medicinal herbs; there are flower exhibits, lakes, ponds and babbling brooks with photogenic bridges, even an authentic Buddhist temple, but for the most, this garden is pretty wild hill country, strewn with huge boulders and criss-crossed by small (but well maintained) paths. Visiting here is more like hiking than a leisurely afternoon stroll. That this botanical garden's mission is as much recreational area as scientific endeavour may be seen by the fact that it opens at 05:30 and entrance is free before 07:00!
