A friend of mine who lives in Xiamen suggested my girlfriend and I stay here. Upon arriving we were stunned at the scenery: an old colonial house with a big metal gate resting just outside a lovely Chinese park in the middle of Xiamen. After entering we were stunned yet again at the overall "home" feel, the East/West decor, and the friendliness of the staff. Ernir, who is part of the family who runs it, went above and beyond to make sure we had a home-like stay. A full breakfast was ready and waiting for us downstairs when we wanted it, with imported yogurt and fresh coffee, along with homemade bread and cookies. After a long hot day in the Xiamen sun we were welcomed back with a afternoon aperitif and some fresh fruit.
The rooms/balcony/bathroom were second to none, all new with basic toiletries and towels with no minor flaws whatsoever. Aircon was great and allowed a nice escape from the heat outside, and bottles of water were plentiful.
If you spend a lot of time in 5-start hotels in China and sometimes you feel like you are nickel-and-dimed on basic services, then you will be extremely satisfied with your stay. I will certainly stay here regardless I'm in Xiamen for business or pleasure.
