“Nanshe”

Nanshe Ming and Qing Ancient Village
Ranked #26 of 349 things to do in Dongguan
Attraction details
Reviewed 15 February 2013

As said previously, some buildings in the main section of Nanshe are going through remodeling. This does not take away from the beauty of the area. To see sections that *are* old, I recommend walking past all the remodeling toward the back of the area. There are beautiful old buildings falling down and many old buildings that are still being lived in. I would recommend anyone to visit and to really explore beyond what the main crowd sees.

Although the buildings are said to date back to Mind Dynasty, some 300-600 years ago, this is very much a work in progress site as I write. Its clear that as Guangdong is void of too many real tourist sites, they are desperately trying to claw back some of the ancient sites, as tourism becomes a major source of income in China. The Village is small, and some extensive re-modelling is going on (Dec 2012) to make it possible for visitors to get around. Dont get me wrong the village does offer some level of charm, and a glimpse of China in yesterday year. We live some 50 minutes away from the site, and we were happy to spend an hour walking around, but might have felt peeved had we had a longer journey to reach the place. The roof tops of the buildings are fascinating, and its these that grabbed our groups real interest. We had read that the entrance fee was 30RMB per person, but there was no one on duty when we arrived at 4.30pm to take our money. The village is in Chashan Town, a district of Dongguan City.
